I agree, from what I've heard on the forums though, you have to drive that car in a completely counterintuitive way to be at all quick with it. I gave up after about 10 laps.

From one of the road black-stripers (pro iRacer):

2 secs off the WR is probably faster than I am with my CSW. So with some practice, you can be fast with the mouse too. Same as touch. People need to stop getting so up in arms over this.

Thats what I figured would be the bigger problem. With the mouse you can make unrealistic wheel movements. Also there is now braking and throttle assits. Give some guys a few weeks and you will be seeing all the records being broken. Before you had everyone on the same playing field. Now you have people who can go lock to lock with the flick of a mouse. I dont think this is a good thing for a game thats supposed to be a simulation. I for one will be holding off on any new purchase till I see where this ends up. IMO this is the wrong direction to take iracing. It seems a step backwards not forward.

If you honestly believe lock to lock steering is the fastest way around a track, you might have a problem. But the problems isn't about touch screen or mouse control :p

I also think that if I get out driven by a touch/mouse driver it will suck, but in the end I had the better experience.

I agree this is removing some of the elite feel of iRacing, but for me it opens up doors, I have a race rig with wheel and a racing seat and everything that makes me feel closer to the sim when I drive.

But I also like to do pain jobs, I do this on my office computer, because i like to sit at a desk when I work in PS. Now I can install iRacing on this computer as well and I don't need a controller or a wheel to actually get the car on track to see my work.

Up until now I uploaded the file to the rig, had to move over to the rig and start up the game. Now I can just start the game on the office computer and see if the alignment I did in PS actually is correct.

And Superbike81: 10 laps in that car, you are super patient ;)

I didnt mean lock to lock steering was the fastest way around the track. More that the mouse can provide unrealistic steering imputs which can affect lap times. It reminds me of a racing game i played around 2002. The fastest guy was a keyboard racer. When EA pulled the plug on the game he explained how he set the lap times. He said it was just remembering button taps. He knew 6 taps left for this corner 8 taps right for another. With a mouse youll be able to make wheel adjustments faster than what you normally could. I may be wrong about faster times with a mouse, but I suspect with some practice we will start seeing some times that will be in possible with a wheel.

I see your point, but I seriously think there are more variables to iRacing than a EA games from 2002.

In GT5 I felt all the times the laps where similar, even with the T500RS, in iRacing every lap is different even if you drive alone in clean air. You can feel tire wear and fuel consumption a lot better in iRacing. So I don't think it will ever be a remember how much you moved your mouse game.

And if this ruins the sim for real and not only in everyone's paranoid minds I doubt it will live long. It seems to me the guys have some pride in what they do, or else this wouldn't be close to what it is today.

And smoothness is the way to go to be fast, if you have to turn your wheel unrealistically fast you already lost the time.

Don't doing what? Jump into races whitout practise or test the jetta, Ford Supercar.

Anyway the Ford Supercar is a waste of money. it does not brake, it does not turn, it has no grip, and it feels sluggish....is this a racecar?

Jumping into races with cars you've never driven.

Also, the V8 Supercar is anything but "sluggish".

Oh come on! I'm 2 for 2 since last night. Log in, click Race Now and iRacing crashes... I'm trying to get into a practice room and the Staging box keeps resetting to 20 seconds when it counts down to 1. Dang!

Are server downs common or is this latest build just giving them fits?

Servers are almost never down. This new build is a huge change, give them time.

👍 That's what I thought it might be. Cheers for the quick answer.

Yeah, I have seen a few videos of this car and it looks like it can really handle it's weight and size. And also with an engine that size it can really shift down the straights.

When I can drive a real car with a mouse, I'll like it but until then.. I'm all for mew ideas, but some shouldn't even be considered, especially when iRacing claims to be the best racing sim you can buy.

What do you guys do as far as assists and transmission goes? Paddles? Sequential? H Pattern?

Service will go down at 1800EST/2200UTC. More issues to resolve.:)

We are planning to do a maintenance window at 6 pm Eastern time (2200 UTC), to resolve some additional problems with our latest build. All the race servers will be shut down, and all sessions lost. There will be no official results from any cancelled sessions. We feel this is a better course of action than waiting for the sessions to finish, as many people are experiencing problems getting into servers, and we are currently doing a build update that should address the main issues. This way, that update will be deployed hours earlier.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. We pride ourselves on creating high-quality software and a high-quality service, but the complex nature of software development often punctures our pride, especially when large changes are undertaken. Our team has worked very hard to make this transition to 64 bit, and to completely rewrite some of the foundations of the simulation and of the race servers and website to support team-based racing, of which spotting is just a first piece. Unfortunately, despite a great deal of testing, there are situations which we can't reproduce until a build is in your hands. I need to thank you for finding these issues so quickly!

We very much hope this new update will address the main remaining issues, and you can all resume trouble-free racing.

Deploying fixes.

Estimated lap time: 3 hrs
ETA: 0100 UTC / 9 PM ET

I was driving a DP in a Practice session this afternoon at Barber. Had the screen go black for several seconds on st least two occasions. The sim continued running fine car was reacting to throttle input. I could hear it. Came back normal and there weren't any sort of pop ups going on in Windows.

Well, it's still down even after installing the required updates.

Edit; So now it's an Internet Explorer thing. "Other browsers" work fine.

A quick flight down to Barber Motorsports Park today for getting familiar with the new ride, another flight back to New York in the morning for Continental. 49 Motorsports owner Dexter Castro has secured a few Riley's to run in Grand Am this season in preparation for next year's Rolex League.

🤬 Why the hell did my iRating just drop -67, when I was registered, and the Java crashed? :grumpy:

Edit: Good stuff, yet another error. I'm done for the night. Anyone want to play Call of Lack of iRacing?

Well, I was updating iRacing when the site went down. Downloader gave me an error as I attempted to resume as site went back online. Tried a few times, but everything seems to be 🤬. I guess i'll have to reinstall.
