Good question..

You sure of that? Or just guessing?

I'm 75% sure I read it on the official forums, there was definitely something about making it more accessible. The popular series are running more frequently, so the shorter races help that.

Edit- just reread on the forums- first sentence is true, second is my guess.

That's what I was thinking.
Looking forward to getting home and checking out the whole schedule now.
Cheers everyone.

The new Star Mazda schedule sucks balls:

Week 1 (2013-01-29) Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps - Classic Pits 10 laps
Week 2 (2013-02-05) Okayama International Circuit - Short Course 26 laps
Week 3 (2013-02-12) Watkins Glen International - Classic Boot 14 laps
Week 4 (2013-02-19) Circuit Zolder - Grand Prix 15 laps
Week 5 (2013-02-26) Twin Ring Motegi - GP 13 laps
Week 6 (2013-03-05) Phoenix International Raceway - Oval 48 laps
Week 7 (2013-03-12) Autódromo José Carlos Pace - Grand Prix 25 laps
Week 8 (2013-03-19) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - Chicane 16 laps
Week 9 (2013-03-26) New Hampshire Motor Speedway - Road with South Oval 23 laps
Week 10 (2013-04-02) Zandvoort - Chicane 14 laps
Week 11 (2013-04-09) Lime Rock Park - Full Course 26 laps
Week 12 (2013-04-16) Suzuka International Racing Course - Grand Prix 12 laps

There are only 7 weeks on this schedule I am willing to race. I am strongly considering switching cars (again). The Lotus 49 and 79 have great track selections.

I have a question for road racers, do you think upgrading pedals help on oval side or just road side? I'm not talking about avoiding wrecks as I think oval is more luck of the draw more than braking faster.

I think it makes a difference on ovals having a better brake like a load cell. Just to be smoother on the brakes at the tracks you do have to use right much brake like martinsville and the short track stuff with the late models and street stock. Obviously in road racing you are using the brakes more so a bigger difference can probably be seen.

The new schedule is terrible, for almost every series. (Except Grand Am, that seems decent). Some really weird tracks being chosen, V8s at Suzuka Moto and lime rock?! Mustangs using the endurance pits at Spa!? And crazy short races too (8 laps, you've got to be kidding me!) I've gone from being able to do 8 weeks in the SRF and Mustang to 6 (SRF) and 4 (mustang), so no full season for me. Only 4 weeks in the Mclaren and V8 as well, I won't be doing near as much racing this season, no motivation for a championship. Iracing really dropped the ball on this one.

I'm apparently in the minority, but I like the new schedule for the most part. Of course we still didn't get a proper endurance Proto/GT schedule, but whatever, I gave up on that long ago.

As a casual racer with a very busy schedule, I find it difficult to find enough time to be able to race most of these 40+ minute races. Even the fixed Truck series races often went close to an hour because of cautions. Star Mazda races were too long for me to run unless I scheduled it during my little bit of free time, but it's not my favorite car, so never really ran it.

Having 20-30 minute races means I can much more often jump in and race. I know most tracks well enough to be able to just download a decent setup (or use the baseline with fuel adjustments) practice for a few laps and then be a safe enough backmarker or midpacker having a blast. So shorter races mean I can race much more often than I could before.

I'll be running Grand-Am in the McLaren primarily, but I'll also do a full season (or close to it) of the Indy Fixed Oval. Other than that, I can now jump into Star Mazda races, fixed Trucks, Lotus 49, and maybe some oval stuff.

So my fun factor is increasing because of this schedule. I know it goes against what most of the forum posting series regulars want. But I still felt I should share why I like it.

Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. I'm thrilled with races every hour, but I think that with the shorter race lengths they will just turn into crash fests, with everyone trying to win at the first corner.

MadRR

I can see how that would help, I was always wondering how much it has helped or been non issue. Phoenix I couldn't drive but Rockingham I was pretty darn fast there having to use brakes getting into turn 1.

On a side note, I finally feel like I'm getting faster since I stepped up in splits. Ray Alfalfa ran 30.0something at Vegas/Trucks and I was running 30.188 which isn't far off at all for me.

I've been doing more hosted sessions recently. Seeing this new schedule, that is where I will be staying. I usually only finished well in races because I am conistent and don't make mistakes and crash. Short races = No fun to me.

^ I highly doubted I was going to be able to make many races as it was but I'm right along with you there Kamuifanboy

+1

I may do a practice session on the week of V8S at LRP just for kicks and giggles

By the way, did everybody catch the whole deal on the NASCAR cup car? I don't remember the whole story but I think if you already have the current car you get $6 off the 2013 and if you bought it in the last 90 days you get full credit. They'll have an Impala and Fusion with identical physics, and the fusion is planned to be released 2 wks after the impala or something like that..... But I think there was more to the story. Can anyone clarify?

I'm curious as I just heard about Ford/Chevy not updated cars. $6 isn't much but better than nothing.

For what I read they're being held back on the develelopment because the very limited existing data on the cars, they are literally getting it as the teams gather it and learn the ars.
He also went to talk about the Pro-Cup and that it'll get a late start to debut both cars in it. For us mortals the cars will replace the Impala A on the Carburator Cup till they are introduced to the regular official series for S2.

I think my SR just dropped by thinking about racing the SM at Lime Rock
I'm a little disappointed by the shorter races and have to say Lime Rock and Okayama Short are questionable decisions.

Probably the thing that I'm most disappointed about is the L79 races at every 4 hours, I was hoping to have my first races next season, it was hard enough finding a official race on this side of the world at 2 hour intervals, my guess is it's going to be impossible at 4 hour intervals :(
But yea the L49 schedule looks good so that'll probably make up for it I guess :)
Will probably go back to the Skip for the Sebring round too, always wanted to race that combo.

Any news on my touring cars? Any news at all? I want touring cars. I'm sick of most everything else but rally and touring cars ATM.

I don't think there should be any problem at Lime Rock, they run faster cars than the Star Mazda there in real life. Just be careful going into T1 (which is sometimes futile).

Touring cars as in the BMW 1-series and Civic? I wouldn't expect either of those until maybe the end of 2013.

Time to e-mail iRacing, I've met too many idiots on iRacing, and I don't approve of this recent decision to give us a 63 year old car before giving us the cutting-edge cars we I actually want. :(

I don't recall how long you've been around iRacing, but the Lotus 49 is one of the most requested cars on the service and probably one of the most popular cars in all of sim racing. I don't think an e-mail will do much given that the Lotus 49 has already been delayed once.

63 years old? Where do you get that from?

The Lotus 49 began in the 1967 F1 season. So that would make it 46 years old.

I'm still happier playing on GT5 tracks in Race '07. Race '07 has touring cars. Lots of touring cars. Swedish Touring Cars, British Touring Cars, World Touring Cars... :scared: How can you not be happy with instant grids of 40 touring cars?

That game's been out for 5 years and still matches iRacing. :( And, all for less than $40. Then, I bought Bob's Track Builder Evo, and suddenly, I have an unlimited number of tracks, because I can make them!

I bought the Race series on special at Steam but I haven't messed with it much. For me the laser scanned tracks and supposedly very accurately modeled cars aren't that big of a deal. It's all about the online racing system. You can set AI to be aggressive but you just don't get the same feeling as when racing real people. I do AI races in pCARS and rFactor2 quite a bit. Honestly I had more fun in rFactor leagues than I've ever had with iRacing, but for now, if you want good quality online pickup races, iRacing is where it's at.

Well "good cars" is a subjective opinion. I *love* the McLaren, like the HPD and Indy car (ovals only), but enjoy racing most of the cars. There's only really a couple cars that I hate and that's the Mustang, Cadillac, and V8.

But yes, I would love to have a 430 or 458 GT3, but I still enjoy what we have.

Not for the cost, given my last result (second-to-last; dive-bombed by MX-5.)

I'm really getting frustrated by iRacing.

That's because you are still racing the MX-5. :)

Join us in the McLaren in Grand-Am and GT Challenge next season, I promise the racing is much better. :)
