Thanks for hosting the Roar before the Roar session tonight John. Might have been a better showing if I'd filled my car back up with Gas, lol, but just as I'd got back to the battle for 2nd, I had to pit. oops!!

Anyway, since I'd got a nice new car and track to play with, I figured I'd stick around and run some laps with the Delta splits to see where I could pick up some time and eventually got down to running fairly consistent 2'05's with a PB of 2'05.3 and splits for an optimal lap of 2'04.7!! Based on this, if I get a chance to run the Roar event, I might just do that :)

Thanks again and thanks to everyone else for showing up too. Good fun with good racers!!

Nice pace man!! You should enter one of the races for sure.

I'm done qualifying and am happy where I ended up, so it'll just be practicing tonight before the race. I'll look for you guys in the practice room mayhem!

Good luck all!

Eric Hudec on tire degadation (which, accordind to Tony Gardner's December interview, will be updated after a couple of handling issues with the NTM are fixed. So possiibly with January and April builds respectively):

Time drop off is a problem, yes. How fast it does it and how much it continues to over a run isn't working great. We're working on compounds that will behave more correctly with heat. Wear rates, however, are pretty much bang on for most typical NASCAR tracks and their surfaces. There are a few outliers like Indy, etc but predominantly wear rates are accurate.

On the NTM handling updates for this build, these have been mentioned so far:
*new steering model
*a "little tweak" that only the McLaren currently has
*carcass force buildups fix

I'm sure most of you have seen the pages of complaints on the iRacing forums about bump drafting during qualifying for the Roar, I don't get it.. I'll quote one of my posts.

Mackenzie Korince
I don't get the complaining, lets say you are an average driver, you have someone "bump" you around and you run a time way faster than you normally would, you're now in a higher SOF race than you probably should be and don't do so well.. I went solo in qualifying and made sure I had a clear track, ran a pace where I was comfortable and that was that. Sure you might set a great qualifying lap, but thats one lap, you still have an entire 60 minute race to complete yet. Just saying.

and someone else's

Bram Venneman
While this sounds like a really cheap way to get a decent qualifying lap in ... think about the result for a second. You'll have slow drivers in the fast splits, with 60 minutes to get by them ... I think they'll learn quickly enough that just getting a single fast lap in qualifying doesn't mean much in a 60 minute race ;-)

P.S. Afaik, a 0x does indeed invalidate a qualifying lap

due to trying to buy a house. iRacing has been put on hold. im SO bummed i will be missing the roar this weekend. i love that its the mustang, jetta and mx-5 should be a fantastic bit of fun.

You are cometely right Mac! It's just stupid to be doing that, but it'll hurt at the start when you get to the busstop and have a slow guy right in your front bumper and a train of fast guys on your rear bumper!
What pi55es me off the most is people using the damn apron, that is just plain cheating! You'll see them during the race and there is nothing we can do about it!

Why don't they get a 1x for dipping below the apron? They should. Thankfully the Mustangs don't go below the apron (not that I've seen at least).

Actually you can report them for abusing track boundries.

I seen somebody complaining about the same thing last year.

Question for you more experienced iRacers: if I qualify at the bottom of the top split, and gain a couple of positions here and there throughout the race, but still finish near the bottom, is that a guaranteed iRating hit?

Just curious.

I'm getting pre-race butterflies when I think about the race, I'm psyched. Good luck tonight everyone!

Irating isnt affected by where you start only where you finish. So to answer your question more then likely youll take a hit, but not a big one.

Cool, thanks. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure as I always qualify and usually start at the upper end of the grid.

Currently I'm 19th in the Mustang so good chances I'll be in the top split but more toward the back. It should be exciting.

This is my first World Cup Race; what is the attitude and race craft like, just like any other official race, or a bit more aggressive since there are a lot of entrants and only two time slots?

Thanks!

These types of races tend to bring out every lunatic in the service. If you can make it through the first couple laps the lunatics have crashed and quit then the race is pretty clean.

Does the World Cup do splits by quali time or is it the usual split by iRating?

I've put in over 120 psi in Cup short track tire, by accident, and it would have taken a lot more. I've put in 75 psi in a Hoosier bias-ply used on late models, and Josh Berry who was there was looking for cover. It wasn't going blow.

Do a long burnout and you'll notice the tire surface temperatures don't get over 387F/197C! Now try to imagine why it doesn't wear as much as perhaps it should or does in real life while doing such a thing. Styrene-Butadiene Rubber, mostly used in road and racing tires, has a auto-ignition temperature of about 475F/245C! It also decomposes when temps get over 570F/300C.

Just driving it here in the office in its finished state. What a wonderful track. So cool seeing the city in the background and all the objects, pretty unique track. I think 15 turns. If you have a decent computer, make sure you turn graphics setting up when you check it out. Anyway, will be in the build next week. We will post some pictures later.

For those with active accounts, can you post any other Eric Hudec quotes from here http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/2468030.page#5124415 and here http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/2470512.page#5160535?

Rumors on a work in progress for a better culling system:

portstevo from overclockers.com.au
Actually iRacing loads up chunks of the track as you see them. This is why you get stutters in certain spots on certain tracks. The current culling system loads everything in the field of view just before you turn the corner, then unloads (culls) what you cannot see.

They are working on a new culling system that guesses what you can and cannot see which is hopefully going to remove the stutters and will allow Spa and Suzuka to work better.

I ran a few laps in the MX-5 at practice for the ROAR today just to see what the combo is like. Is the force feedback bad with that car and track combo or something? I turned the FF all the way up in game and it was almost non existent except for the weight of the wheel and G forces when turning hard. I wasn't even getting any clipping on the FF bar.

Petit in my split wasn't too bad, tonight I'm just going to drive overly cautious for the first few laps, then go from there.. The race is only 60 minutes so I'm worried people will want to win in the first 5 laps..

Anyone doing roar practice? I did my first real practice laps in a qualifying session, and I'm going for a 2:15 this next session!

(I'm in the MX-5)

Anyone else running the 2.4 next week? I'm debating starting from the pits to avoid getting taken out in T1. Because rolling starts coming into T1 is almost always crazy. It's a 160 minute race, so I think giving up 15 seconds or so in the beginning to be safe might just be worth it.

McLaren here, though it'll all depend on what cars get the magic updates on Monday and how they'll drive after...

Edit: 19 minutes till warm up and already 218 entries!! Damn this is gonna be a good one!!!

Well, I was able to wake up for the Roar. I guess I'm going to give it a go with no practice and what not. Anybody have a stable setup for the Stang? And how much fuel will I need for the entire race?

Good luck everybody! I'm in the MX-5, so please dont punt me off :P I did a conservative qually lap of 1:17.1, so I'll be pretty far down the splits. My PB is a 1:16.3, but I couldnt get anywhere near that for some reason.
