Reporting back with 12 minutes left in the race.

Popped another motor. I'm not that sure how I did it. Watching the replay I downshifted to 2nd in t1, at an indicated 86mph or something. 2nd gear in that setup goes 109mph. Then the mph rise (might have been locking a little) to about 7500 and mph goes just over 100 as it pops and I spin backwards. Not into anyone or thing at least.

My first stint sucked, with about five other DPs in the group ahead, the head ones were being a little overcautious in braking. The group did some early braking into the bus stop, I had to lock up a little and kept it under control until I turned in and the car hadn't settled. Off into (and partially through) the tire wall, so I had to reset. Never passed a DP after that, only ones who crashed out. I started doing really good beginning with my second stint though. So the event served me well with getting back into the car.

Finished 11th this time around. Had I not been rear ended on the second lap going into the international horseshoe, I think I would have won. I gained 40 seconds on the leader throughout the race. Give me 24 hours and I would have easily won lol.

Finished 9th in my split. Would have had an easy top 5 but an unskilled DP decided to ram me in the bus stop and send me flying into the tire wall.

Guys in my race were saying that this race we were just in won't count though, and the race will be rescheduled again since the server crashed on a lot of people. Our race went fine though, no disconnects or anything.

You've got to be kidding me. That's it. No way I am running another 180 minute race. My butt is already killing me for going through 2 on a wooden chair with no padding.

I haven't verified that though. A couple guys were saying they had teammates that were disconnected from their races and were in contact with the staff. Supposedly the staff told these people that the race wouldn't count.

Don't take that as for sure just yet. Wait till we hear officially.

The dam race better count. I won my split in the DP's. Raced my ass off for it to.

Was 2nd place and just behind the leader. He spins right in front of me and I take damage and the meatball flag. I pit and now my strategy is screwed as far as fuel is concerned. I run the fuel absolutely empty the next 2 stints. I was driving on the ragged edge and taking chances through traffic for almost 2 hours. Pit with 12 minutes to go to take just fuel and come out right behind 1st and 2nd. I'm keeping pace with them, but my tires are so slick I was losing a few tenths in the infield. I would regain this time through drafting, but was ready to take 3rd and move on. With 4 minutes left the 2nd place car dives underneath the leader and they both spin out in the hairpin right after pit exit. I now have the lead and a 4 second gap. Next lap is the white flag and I just cruise on the last lap so I could see the checkered flag.

Hardest I've ever raced. And it actually paid off for once. So, if this race don't count, I will be quite pissed with iRacing.

Site is showing the races at 3pm as official. Looks like the 2pm races are not.

Wow after seeing the most people I've ever seen online for yesterdays 2.4 (and 1000+ people register), I was expecting to wake up to stories of another awesome event...I guess it can't be perfect all the time.

I didn't lose any iRating in the 2pm race. Only a few people had laps logged in the results and their stats were affected.

My race started out great in the McLaren. Slowly worked my way up to 8 or 9 from almost dead last (20th). Got spun by a DP going into turn one but no damage and I only lost a spot. Close to 50min in, I messed up on the bus stop and hit the wall so I decide to pit. This has to be the most boneheaded move but I missed my guy. He was hiding at the very beginning so I went around and did another lap and got rammed in the infield. I limped around and pitted.

From there I think I was 15th and slowly worked back up to 9th. One of the lapped McLaren cars decided to race me. made some rather aggressive moves including dive bombing me in the bus stop so I let him go. He spins the car in the exit from infield and stops right in front of me. I couldn't get around and slammed into him. had to get towed. Sat a couple of minutes for towing and a couple for mandatory repairs. decided to forgo 5min of optional repairs and filled my tank. That was lap 45.

I decided to try to make the rest of the race on one stint since my race was pretty well ruined at that point. I set the engine map to 2 and short shifted. I made it to lap 83, within two laps of the finish and had to stop for a splash of gas. Ended up 11. 3 laps down from 10th and 2 laps ahead of 12th

Split 2 was chaotic... Started 5th in the McLaren and by lap 3 or 4 (forgot which) P4 went in too deep at turn 1 and I got just ahead then just before the first horseshoe I got taken out (rear end got knocked and spun my car) and had to toe back to the pit which put me dead last:grumpy:. Later on in the race when the DP's started lapping all chaos broke loose, I'm sure they thought they owned the track, they were divebombing left, right and center while I was already turning in making me have to go off track to avoid them giving me loads of 1x and one of them took me out also again while I was mid corner:mad:. Why they could'nt just wait until after the turn I don't know, it was just so frustrating although there was some patient DP's at least. By the end of the race I finished 15th in class. Just wasn't my day today I guess. :(

I had fun. First stint I kept getting mad at myself for silly mistakes. The rest of the time I was having fun and just getting comfortable with the car and finding the best way to work with McLarens. I felt like an asshole anytime I made a pass on the infield, and I had to be riding their bumper through the previous turn to make that happen.

So, I bought the free three month Cadillac special and have been playing for hours. I did one oval race in the Street Stock and finished 9th. Then did a race at Lime Rock in the Spec Racer and finished 14th. The race at Lime rock was hell. Practiced for about 45 minutes running 1:03-1:05, but kept spinning in the race. :(

Having fun, but also getting somewhat frustrated. :irked:

The SRF is a very difficult car to drive, lime rock is a very difficult track in the SRF, probably the most difficult track in that car. I can PM you a setup if you want, it's more stable than the baseline, and I hit a 59.7 with it. Keep it up, don't be discouraged by difficult results early on. You will improve by leaps and bounds as you get more practice. Welcome to iRacing!

How does the Gymkhana challenge work in terms of "winnings?" I ran a 50.7xx in practice and a 51.276 in the qualifying/challenge session w/ the legend car. That track is a blast with those little cars, I have 400lb springs in the front and 175lb springs in the rear with a 70% brake bias, and the car rotates beautifully!I haven't had a setup that good in awhile, just a tad tail happy, so when I do spin it's usually a 360 and I just keep going.

And I love that brake sound!

iRacing is very frustrating, that's why when you get it right it's awesome and way too addictive. Welcome to the dark side ;)

Thanks. Go ahead and PM me the set up. :)👍

Also, that's probably the worst car/track combo for a new player. Go do some test sessions in the Miata Cup at Lime Rock or Okayama Short when you need a break, that's what you'll be doing as of next week.

Don't worry about it arror. I'll follow Eric's advice.

Alright, sorry about that. Eric's advice was very good, getting some extra practice in the MX-5 before the week starts should give you an advantage over some of the other guys. Good luck!

Edit: My setup is here (Top of page), but I recommend John Bodin's setup aswell, it should be good for beginners.http://www.racesetups.com/downloads/101

John Bodin makes great setups.

Oh, and about the Miata. Don't bother fiddling with settings, its a fixed setup series and you'll want to be driving the setup required. Its the 'baseline' setup.

I've been trying to enjoy the 24 Heures du Fun in a McLaren. Nope. Get crashed every time. This time some **** in a McLaren jumps the start by a couple seconds, hits three cars leaving a V8 Supercar sideways in the middle of the track, everyone goes and gets bottlenecked there, causing everyone to check up and come to a stop. I've made it to the grass on the left and stopped. And another McLaren decides to drive into me to get me out of his way. At like 30mph, and he didn't use his brakes at all. I let him have it and left. No more racing for me until SR is back in effect.

If you take lap 1 really easy or start from pits or qualy just behind Corvettes then you'll have a decent race. Then again in a Cadilliac I don't have anyone behind me..

I take it easy. Its everyone else flying through the air I'm having troubles with.

The "New FGT" thread cracks me up. "It turns!"

So apparently it was a denial of service attack that caused all this. Why would someone try to do that too iraciing it makes no sense!?

Eric.

 I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing because I was going to ask how these fun races are with 5 different cars:eek: Looks like I got my answer. Not so fun. Think I'll just do some practice in them to enjoy the new sounds and check out the steering/NTM refinements.

Yeah...There's some novelty in it the first few times. I'm suffering a big performance hit though. Spa is pretty resource heavy already without five different cars too. Even my mouse movement is slow.

I'll be damned if the Ford GT isn't the most fun GT car we have now. I get more communication out of it than the McLaren. It has been a long time since driving the Vette though, so I can't say anything on that.
