Good luck to everyone running the 500 tonight! I won't be, so is anyone broadcasting the top split race?

Found this on the forums. It's a warning for those running the 500:
Eric W.
I went and found the results from the 2/25/12 running of the iRacing Daytona 500. I wanted to post those results here to give people some perspective and drive home the idea of taking our time and being smart.

There were 38 splits. The fewest cautions across all 38 races was two cautions. The next lowest was four. Every other split had 5 or more, with some getting into 15 to 20 territory. Most races had 10 cars or less finish on the lead lap due to damage and attrition. I found a few races where 10 guys or less seemed to finish. Guys registered top tens running multiple laps down.

Let's not be stupid. Let's just be smart.

It would probably be a bad idea to make this my first ever circle track race, right? :)

I quickly thought about buying the right car and entering the race, but didn't want to be the knucklehead that caused a caution and ruined someone's race.

Looks like I'll be at Spa in the Skippy.

Seen some stories on the forums of races lasting 4-5 hours due to cautions. Really hope that doesn't happen, I can't stare at a screen for that long!
Just did a 47.2 flat in quali, seems ok I guess. First time in this car :)

Edit: make that a 47.179 :)

My race last year lasted me 2 hours and were not even half way through the race. we had 14 cautions in that race.

Blurrhh. I guess I'll see how long I can last. I'm going into the race expecting to lose SR and iR anyway

With 1000+ members online, I hope the site is ready for it. The forums (their forums) will explode if the site goes down again.

Oh no, its not loading member site for me. Saying page not found. May not be racing:grumpy:

It finally did let me log in after 3 tries on getting to the log in screen.

I now own the 4th fastest lap time overall in the Solstice at Spa, pretty happy about that :p. Good luck you guys 👍

Played it safe. Got taken out with less than 20 laps in. I thought we got a reset? Not me! Bunch of numbskulls!!

Bummer. Oval racing isn't really my thing, so I did the V8SC Americas race instead, and finished 7th, .4 behind 6th. It was a really good race, hard, clean racing by everyone.

Good luck to everyone not taken out in the 500! I look forward to your triumphant stories later!

Well I got to lap 72. Lap down idiot with massive damage doing about 100mph in the middle of the track, took out a heap of guys. Was running top 5-10 the whole race too. I think that was our 5th caution though.
Just watched a little more and there was another caution 2 laps later

Well hopefully tomorrow will go better! My plan is just to either lay in rear if I can or push hard, I have no idea which is going to work.

Got taken out of the 500 by some guy hitting me going about 150mph under caution. The first time I went in and got it fixed, then i think it was the same guy hit for the second time the exact same way under caution when he was trying to catch back up. After that one I couldn't go over 175MPH so I quit.

Luckily it wasn't that far into the race. I think I quit on ;ap 40 or so. I think by that point we had had maybe 6 cautions. We ran 8 laps to start off and then no more then 2 or 3 without a flag after that.

What was kind of funny is that I made 3 pit stops by the 40th lap and was still in the top 15 when I quit. I jsut couldn't stand going so slow and all the lap cars just blowing by me. I would have eventually caused a problem.

Sounds exactly like the Indy 500 last year. I just backed off the of the lead pack and let everyone else crash. With 50 to go, I then decided to make my move towards the front. Ended up paying off and I won by half a lap.

These races bring out all the good and bad of people. Mistakes happen but to not be able to run a 15 laps without issues or idiots who just want to wreck others gets old.

Yeah. I think the Indy 500 race I did had at least 10 caution periods. The race went on for over 5 hours. It was really killing my buttocks.

I finished in 21st, but 18 laps down. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time twice in the first 20 laps. Had a slow car for the rest of the race. I might give it another go tomorrow if I have time.

Since the previous build i can't keep the same FFB settings for each car.
Is there a way to save the FFB options for each car instead for all the cars?

Mine all stay with each car. i may have had to recheck the seperate settings box for each car though.
