In the HPD....on the opening pace lap....guy slows down just as everyone else starts going. Can you guess the result?

Someone rear ended him, then chain reaction all the way to the back. I was near the back anyways, impacted the guy in front of me at less than 20mph, had VERY minor damage to the front right, no wheel damage, appeared to only be cosmetic. Meatball flag.....pitted...."Too much damage we're done!" Three other guys in the pits with me had the same thing, very minor damage, but ended their race. Maybe some damage glitch that we got caught in? It's weird that such a low speed impact would end the race for four people at the very start of the race.

WTF? Anyone else ever had a VERY minor impact end their race like that? It's my first time in 18 months or so of iRacing regularly. Never had it happen on my old roommate's account either back as far as 2009.

Seems to depend on the angle. And often times the game decides different damage due to net coding. It may think you hit him at 1000 MPH depending on where it thought the other car was relative to you.

Yeah probably some kind of netcode thing. The guy who caused it was Italian, I'm in Japan, two guys from the US and one from somewhere else in Europe. Oh well.

NASCAR iRacing Series race starts in 8 minutes, I'm scared honestly, so many people just don't know how to take the corners slow enough. I hope I start at the back of my split. I'll just stay there and try not to get lapped or caught up in any of the imminent 10 or so wrecks this race will have.

I have been having some very bad luck this week. I keep wrecking or I get involved in the wrecks. I'm hoping I can turn it around today because I need to get my irating and SR up to where it was last week.

Jav, how did you run the 1:17 in the gen 6 at Sonoma last night? I was in the same session and the best I could do was a 1:18. It had too much oversteer for me to control it.

I have always thought that iracing used some kinda radom generator to determine how sever the damage to the car is. To me I have seen no pattern to how iracing determines damage. It seems to vary to much for there to be a method to the madness. I guess there has to be some method, but its not very consistent.

Sonoma in the Gen6? Was that a hosted session or some kind of practice I missed?

It's consistently inconsistent ;)

Hosted. Sonoma is in two months for the NASCAR iRacing Series.

Yeah, I knew it was on the schedule. Just thought it might have been some kind of early practice I didn't know about. Was this some kind of secret squirrel GTP session? If not y'all should have shouted out about it.

It was just a random session. I joined to see jav in there. I tried to run some laps but the fixed setup is absolutely terrible. I could barely run 100% throttle and I had to be 3rd or 4th gear to do it. I was about 50%-75% on the throttle on the straights. I have no idea if I will race that week.

Woow, 256 points on iGPS race, very happy, more two weeks to why not be on PRO Series!!! :)

Wow happy to here that, good luck over the next two weeks and I hope you make Pro.

When the car first came out that was very common, any minor tap would give you a meatball with no damage and then the too much damage to fix message. Kind of stupid when that's a car designed to be repaired quickly on the pits!

Yes sir! That car is a handfull at Sonoma! I had a couple of 16s going but would always mess it up and loose the lap...
Lol! I got DQ'd for going to the drag strip and attepting a pass!

Jav
Love to read that Mac! Happy for you, if you have the resources to pursuit a career by all means go for it! We're proud of you, awesome job!!

Thank you sir. :) It was a blast, can't wait for the 3 day.. I'm way to excited

What's your name on iRacing? I would check the iRacing Users thread but I'm on the phone app :)

Edit: Never mind, I found it.
Good luck Ricardo, you really deserve it this season.👍

Skip Barber was great, I did the two day driving course using Mazda MX-5s, RX-8s, and 3's. It was a great experience, all 3 of my instructors were excellent and I learned a lot. I was complimented quite a lot and was told I should look into one of the three day racing schools. I struggled a bit with heel/toe but everything else went great. I was soaking up all the instruction like a sponge and at the end of each day we had a race on one of the two autocross courses. Yesterday was in the automatic 3's and I won and today was with a manual RX-8 and I won that too.. Right before I took my final run my instructor said "remember Mac, Grand-Am is waiting.." and I ended up going 1.3 seconds faster than 2nd place.. It was so much fun and I think the racing bug bit me.. Managed to get all my instructors and even Skip Barber to sign my Skip Barber book.. :)

That's awesome Mac, what a great opportunity. I raced with you a couple times now in iRacing and i could tell you have the quality of a great racer, so it doesn't surprise me in the least that you did very well at the Skip
Barber, Kudos Mac.

Maybe I'm the only person who thinks that it handles much worse after the update.

The GT always handled differently then i would expect, to me it seems much better now. What makes you say it's worse now?

Well I don't have the Ford GT, but I do race some of the Proto and GT Challenge races in the HPD ARX, and I have heard many GT drivers saying that it is much easier to drive now and also saying it has taken some of the challenge away.

As I say though, I don't have it, so I can't really say my opinion, just what I heard others say. :)

+ Glad you had fun Mac. :)

Maybe you have to drive the car differently than before the update? I swear I just can't seem to make it more than 5 laps without some crazy oversteer spin.

Are there any kind of promo codes valid at this moment? I tried most of the ones in the pinned thread but they don't work.

OK, but I don't recall quoting you

I had the weirdest wreck last night with Indycar at Iowa. I was on the outside black groove while guy was inside but we had plenty of space between us. Now half way through the corner his car just turned right into me but he got no damage while I got stuck in the wall.

I'm assuming it was net code issue.

Yeah, that sounds like a classic netcode problem. I race the Indy car regularly, it's my favorite oval car, but due to the both the speed of the car and how twitchy and quick it is you'll see quite a few netcode contacts. I've had a half a lane between myself and another car before, but on his screen I ran right into him, he crashed and got a 4x and damage, I kept on driving like nothing happened, no 4x, no 0x, etc.

It's all a part of the Indycar unless you end up in a race with only guys from your region. Being in Asia, I never get guys in my region except a couple regulars that I always race with.

As far as the Ford GT goes, I don't find it any worse or better than before, but it definitely drives differently after the update. I hated the way it felt pre-update and I still hate the way it feels post-update. It's just a terrible car IMO.

Coming up on week 11.....

What is everyone's plans for next season?

I'll be running full seasons in the Indy car fixed oval series again of course and probably the Proto/GT fixed, I'll continue running the NASCAR iRacing Series when I can, the McLaren in Grand-Am if I can ever find a damn official race in my time zone, mess around with the Star Mazda, etc.

If the Lotus 49 comes out I'll try it out for sure, we should be getting the Kia which might turn out really fun with the Cadillac. I enjoy driving the slower cars in multi-class series, so the Kia will be great for me, especially since I hate the land-barge Cadillac.

Anyone else?

For me the plan is to race the Trucks at Rockingham and the National at New Smyrna. I want to alternate races so I can race both as much as possible. I might do that on the weekend and start practicing tomorrow.

Edit: Wow my reading skills are terrible I thought you said what are you doing the week. Next season my plan is to run as much as the truck season as I can. I can buy the tracks to finish the season but I want to purchase some other things besides tracks on iRacing.

I'm not to sure, I'm thinking...

-Full season in Jetta in GTC
-Select races in Solstice/MX-5 in both inRacing News and Grand Touring Cup
-Select races in Mustang Challenge
-Select races in the KIA if it comes out

Plus the occasional race in my beloved Daytona Prototype, Corvette, Ford GT, and Legends Car. I'm just not ready to run a full season with them yet, but I enjoy a race in them from time to time..

^that's close to what I was thinking, Jetta and Mustang to hold me over until NTMv5/L49 come out (I wish I had the time to dedicate to a full season though). Sounds fun!

Try to take advantage of running as many full seasons as you can to take advantage of race credits. It maxes out at $10 per season, so one A-B class season and one C-D season will max it out. But running full seasons and having the 25% discount has meant I've gotten everything that has come out for the last year for free (or very cheap, like $2).

So running your full season in the Jetta + a full season in the inRacing News series would get you $8 for doing nothing but racing.

It's one of the many ways to help reduce the cost of iRacing.
