So, a question to people who did lots of multi-class running: what's more educational - driving the slow car or the fast car? Or both? DP or Ruf? Caddy or Kia;)

I find that I can hot-lap/TT with an acceptable pace, but in races I generally go backwards, since my bad habits from console games come out. When I'm near people I tend to clutch the wheel hard, lock-up brakes and generally go offtrack when I try to go for passes, so I need lots of practice in traffic.
So I'm thinking either a popular multi-class racing series, or some other popular series (SRF/Skippy) with somewhat crappy qualifying times so that I have a couple of people to overtake.

Want to throw in another series this season. Usually race full season in Skippy. Will probably be my last full season for a while. 2nd baby due in May.

Wanting to Grand-Am, but can't find results to see if they go official at my frequent race times.

I'm C Class Road with a 4+ SR.

Any thoughts?

Who's in for some GT3 cup next season!
I'll definitely be doing some McLaren racing!

Every and any class on iRacing will teach you a lot once you really dedicate to being competitive on that particular class.
Now I've found that in order to really be efficient on the higher classes it definitely pays to have good knowledge of the dynamics of the slower cars.
The real fast guys will always go by you very seamlessly and drama free while the guys who are quick but have little understandidng for the other class will always find/create trouble.

C-Spec is out, Ruf Track is back in, no McLaren though:

This move doesn't surprise me. C Spec is far too inconsistent at the moment to race IMO. McLaren won't be added because people will say the NTM 4.5 will be an advantage/disadvantage.

I was originally going to race the DP. Now the RUF track is a car I really enjoy to drive. I wouldn't mind spending nearly 3 hours in the car.

dsgerbc, there are different series where the faster cars and slowers cars are better. In the global series, the caddy is better I think because of the class participation and the fact that it is an easy car once you get the hang of it. In grand-am, I like the DP but that's just my preference. I haven't raced in proto gt yet but I'm going to run the vette because its a fast fun car that allows you to get into a good rhythm

I'll be bouncing between that and Ruf Cup, and hopefully I'll be able to get a full 8 weeks in the V8 as well. (Work Permitting)

I'll have to fix my G27 Pedals before the season starts as well, I'm having issues with the pedals sticking again.

Well i wanted to run the Ruf C-spec series but since i only have 4 tracks in the season it looks like its going to be grand am for me.

I tried a Legends set that Timmy Hill gave me last year.
Not sure why, but I was close to 3 seconds slower this season. PB is 59.8
I tried a set that I could not drive last season, and got down to 101.9.
Lucky I did the 1st qualifier and 2nd race.
Gained +79 IR :)
That said, I'm listed as Division 6 , but raced D5 this past season.
Is this an indication that I'm about to be demoted ?
A lot of setup and driving characteristics have changed and so have times in the last year or so, I assume you're talking about Lime Rock

First of all, let me just say warm "Hello!" to all iRacing users! I joined few days ago and I must say, after playing mainly FM4 and Shift 2 on Xbox - this game is an absolute blast for me! I'm just a casual player knowing that I with all probability won't win any race for a long time, lot's of learning up in front of me, but this is fun, fun, fun!

Back to racing - I tested the '34 Ford for a few days, tuned it to my taste and joined two races yesterday at Lime Rock. Due to budget shortage, for now I play using the wireless Xbox wheel, but it's fine for now.

First race - a disaster... I spun the car at the start! :O To be fair - other 5 guys did it, too... Well, the outcome was towing -> pit stop, which cost me almost 2 laps. I finished second to last, running 3 laps behind the leader.

Second race - a very nice surprise! I had a grid #6 after qualifications (total of 22 players), so not too bad. Unfortunately, one of the guys had some problems and had thrown me off the track when coming back from the grass on the first corner. It resulted in a repair pit stop (no need for towing luckily), and I came back on track 15th. Since then, I told myself to better be slower but on the finish line in one piece. I run all 25 laps and finished #7! Don't know what you all guys think, but I consider it quite a good result. My best lap time was 1:05:476.

Anyway, I was planning to get an Xbox One and FM5 later on this year, but I think I will rather invest my money in a decent wheel and downloading tracks and cars... iRacing stole my heart! :D

Cheers!

I've learnt a lot about how to race in traffic, running this season, in the top split SRFs, they race so much closer to each other than I was previously used to. The lower splits in the SRF won't teach you so much, as there are a lot of people who are still learning.

If you *really* want to practice over taking, try starting the Jetta from the pitlane, in the GTC, it's not massively faster than the MX-5/Solstice, but enough so that you'll catch lots of people each race.

It's from last season's Week 13. Not sure if the Legends received the NTM after that or not.
Yes Lime Rock and now Charlotte. I'm off a full second there.

Looks like iRacing canned the Production Car Challenge/inRacing News Challenge in favor of a new Legends Road Series.

How high IR you'd need to make it to the top split?

Thanks, good stuff, didn't think of that.

Depends on the series and the time slot really. If you are a US time slot in the Proto & GT or Grand Am, usually anything about 1800 will get you into the top split. In a European time slot you will need around 2100 to make top split. Unless of course there is only 1 split. Which is also something that happens a lot.

I was asking about SRF, looked it up, seems like 2k is about the magic number.

I started to have problems with my gas pedal. I cleaned the pot, but also replaced the spring with the stock one off the clutch.

I'll try that, thanks. I've cleaned the Pots before, as I had issues with my brake pedal. Now the gas is acting up. :banghead:

2k will get you in no problem. I agree with what Youichihophop said about the series, for practicing close racing there is nothing better. Especially at the short tracks where there is no chance to get away.

Yes, it received the NTM and I believe a suspension update at the beginning of the season

So what happens to the solstice and jetta? But nonetheless I'm happy I got what I wanted without really saying much :D

The MX5, Slowlstice and Jetta will race in the Grand Touring Cup. The Jetta will also be in the Global Challenge with the Cadillac.

I'll be sticking with the MX5 in the GTC and either the SRF or Mustang series. Luckily, all three series share a lot of the same tracks. The Mustang series definitely has the best lineup and will see an influx of drivers with the addition of NTMv5. The SRF lineup is kind of disappointing with VIR being raced twice. The GTC lineup hasn't been finalized yet but the rough draft is looking good.

I basically cant drive the legend car on a road course without spinning a million times
Do you make sure to load the road setup on road courses? Makes a huge difference.

Welcome to iRacing - it has stolen a lot of hearts! It sounds like you're starting in the right way, make sure you get to the finish and the speed will come.
