I'm starting in the pits when I do race. It's ridiculous. I will qualify, but if I'm not starting in the top 5 or so, I'm starting in the pits to avoid the dozens of crashes on the first few laps. Anyone who doesn't crash should get a top 10
Proto/GT will be pretty bad too. I had an HPD in practice try to overtake me on the mountain and he promptly killed himself.

LOL I'm not the most patient driver either, but I'm smart enough to know that there's no passing on the mountain

It really hasn't been that bad, I started 10th earlier today and it was a very clean start. By lap 2 I picked up 2 places and coming to the line for the 3rd lap I caught a bit too much curb and spun it around, no contact no damage so I just kept going but back to 12th. As the race went on I found myself back in 8th by the halfway point and from there it all stayed the same till the finish.
Seems like people are being really concious in this track and really using their heads.

Got a 2.05.599 in qually with the ford. Ive pretty much hit my limit here, there is only about .2 tenths more that i can find but thats it. These guys getting the 2.04s are insane.

Actually, most of the GT drivers agreed to let by the HPD's on the short shoot before heading down the mountain. Losing 6-8 seconds following a GT car for the entire mountain is a bit unreasonable. Having a HPD behind you for that long will male you nervous as well. It's a recipe for disaster if we didn't agree to the short shoot overtaking area.

Yesterday was a disaster for me. I run the Ford Spec Car challenge @Watkins Glen Cup. I qualfied into the race at grid #3. Cool. Started well, first corner - kept my position; the whole first lap - kept my position; second lap - after the eses going uphill, two guys had passed me, I have left them nice spot to overtake since I saw they are both faster than me, and then... like a compelte moron, on the approach to chicane, I was so concentrated on the breaking light of the car in front of me that I missed the breaking point and went straight into the other guy's back. He then took away the car in front of me, and all three of us had to head for repairs. I felt like a complete idiot... So embarassed... I apologized both, but I ruined their race already, completely my fault. I ended up last, since I don't like to quit the race even if I had an accident that had cost me 5 minutes in towing and repairs.

Conclusion - don't push too hard when not confident enough, brake earlier if you are very close to someone's back (if no intention of overtaking), play it safe so you get to finish line in one piece... Lesson learned, it's just a shame it had been learned on someone else's loss.

I actually don't mind this. This is what I like to see, we are going to make mistakes so learn from them.

I've had like five races at the Glen already. None went well. Got taken out once, lost a lap due to server lag once, client couldn't connect once (had to reboot and join the race full minute after the start), and spun at the bus stop twice.
The whole track annoys me, you can go super-wide in turn one unpunished and draft is worth like a second in qualifying, and that's in a 105HP car. Gotta get me some drafting partner for qualifying. Something I thought I could avoid in this low-HP car.

This sounds too good to be true ;)
More likely that the impatient ones kiss one of the barriers early on; and once they do that at the mountain they're most likely done.

Could have very well been the case, but at least the top 15 got trough clean on the first lap.

Hey guys what are the tracks that you get the most action for your money at. I am mostly interested in grand am and proto gt

Definitely Watkins Glenn, Spa and Bathurst, Road Atlanta and Sebring are very popular as well!

Thanks Jav. I had already decided to buy Watkins glen and spa but I was still trying to figure out the third one. I'll probably get road Atlanta. I haven't raced there since forza 1 :D

Alot of the North American Road Courses are used the most, there are a few popular european/aussie ones like Brands and phillip aswell as Interlagos and Suzuka being fairly popular.

I came close to getting taken out when a group of 4 HPDs tried to sneak by me at the final corner and the first guy spun collecting the other 3 and the 2nd place ford and luckily i was able to scoot around the outside to avoid it. But that chalks up my 2nd win in a row here.

I crashed on my own. For some reason my setup went from understeer in the practice, to placing lunch trays under the rear tires for the race. Was literally uncontrollable.

I just bought Watkins glen, spa, and road Atlanta. I've only raced at Watkins so far but I look forward to testing my riley at the other two

Had a Cinderella story today at Bathurst. I'm car 35/35 in top split- starting 21st. End up having to hold a guy off for the last 5 laps and get a 6th.

Many, many, many wrecks, but hey... I'll take it! I gained 99 IR which puts me at 2026 :)

I was in that same race. Taken out with 10 minutes to go running 5th by the guy Polar had to hold off. He attempted an overtake in the turn before you go down the mountain at the last second. I saw him in my mirror, slowed and got off my line, but he bounced off the inside wall and hit me. Oddly enough, my car looked like it was hit by a tank and he was able to continue no problem. I'm seeing this as a pattern here. The ruf is a much sturdier car than the McLaren

I was taken out in that race when a genius decided to attempt a pass in the turn before you head down the Mountain. At the last possible second, I saw him try it in my rear view. I slowed, got off line, and gave him plenty of room, but he bounced off the inside wall and careened into me. My wheel was 30 degrees offset and he was just fine. I didn't even hit the wall or anything else. Ir has made the Ruf a much sturdier car which is an issue that needs to be addressed

Most of us are running 60-70 range and are still struggling with curbs. It's not insta spin anymore, it's insta sent off the track with that adjustment.

iRacing have really dropped the ball on this build and have taken longer than a week to release no build update to how many things are broken.
I tried it earlier tonight at Spa and didn't like it at all so I turned it up to 100 and it felt much better. Further down on the earlier postted link you can find this interesting post from one of the fastest guys in all of iRacing:

FWIW diff preload should probably be in the neighborhood of 60 to 120 Nm (44 to 89 ft-lb) with our new model. It was an oversight on our part to allow the range to be as large as it currently is. Try reducing this parameter and see if it helps performance over curbs.
We tried numbers in that range, and found the car to be a massive handful.
If you crank it up to 678Nm its like the bumps are hardly there, feels like a completely different (and better) car. With my qual set with the preload at 81 and 102 best I could manage was a 2:01.6. After only changing the preload to 678Nm, I did a 2:00.8. The performance over curbs, at least for me is infinitely better with the preload that high.
Definitely trying that tomorrow!

That's worth a shot! I'm down to the low 2.03s in the race now, but I know I have 2.02 in me easy

The diff pre-load(bumped all the way to the max setting) definitely made the car a lot more stable over bumps, I can pretty much go flat all the way up the mountain now all the way up till Skyline and into the braking zone. Optimal down to 2:02.7xx, PB down to 2:03.3xx and definitely room for more.

Had my first practice of the week last night McLaren/Bathurst. Got about 20 laps in and got down to 2.03.2xx I think with some setup changes 2.02.5xx is possible for me. Last season I done a 2.06.xxx here so the NTM is making a massive difference.

Got a question for you seasoned folks. If you crash. What is the best option. Last night I had gotten into a great battle for 7th place. Let it get to my head and over cooked the hard left headed up the mountain. So I insta pit to get out of the way and the car wasn't driving straight enough to allow people by with out racking off track incidents. So I say there for 10+ minites waiting to repair. I get out to make one lap and finish.

So did I do right. Should if just quit. I read above about DC'ing and coming back. Does the car start fresh with time penalty.

Thanks I advance.

Oh I was running 2:11's then manned up some and got into the 2:08's and then manned up again to knock down some 2:04's. There is more in me. However I can safely run 2:05-2:06's and not worry about crashing. Anytime I push it I'm on borrowed time at Bathurst. Very green here. The sound glitch on GT6 had me avoiding it. So no time there on the track. Hated it then was like not bad. Now I'm like this is a beast but fun and when your on its super rewarding.

Edit: I use the RUF. Really need to buck up and spend time in the McLaren too.

As well I'm hooked on the Street a Stock rookie races. It's so fun and relaxing.
