Yeah generally I steer clear away from open wheel racing but been getting into it more and more lately. Things like the Indycar and Williams you don't get close battles due to the aero push but the Skippy and Star Mazda are fantastic for racing i've noticed. I generally go with touring cars or GT cars though due to the close combat battles you have which is why I love the V8. A few bits of nose to tail to unsettle the car ahead of you and it doesn't really do any damage if you do it right. Saying that, V8 Supercars are by far the biggest and most popular series down here in Australia so no surprises that I like touring cars I suppose.

Gotta say, i'd like to do more superspeedway racing with this new 2 car tandem draft, absolutely loving that!
 
The V8 cars are well televised here in the states too via SPEED network

I never heard of Skip Barber before I started iRacing but now when I watch races (like Daytona 24hr) I've noticed the Skippy mentioned quite a bit. Apparently a lot of drivers train on the Skippy. Even the ones that goes into non-open wheel series.

Yeah my CSPs--- the brakes were kind of sticking or something at times which killed my top end (they just started applying like 1-6% pressure on their own). Luckily I caught it before hitting a race. I took them apart and oiled down that foam and metal piece. But now the brakes stopped working altogether :nervous:

well thats a super downer. i was just at the daytona 24 hour! go every year. live right down the road from daytona, but anyways. the skippy series has been around for as long as i have been alive (im 22). its an awesome series with a lot of talent. with Go Pro's and Contour HD. there are a bunch of vids on youtube.
 
I forgot to readjust that knob that controls braking force back to the least resistance. Now they appear to work properly but I won't know for sure til I test them for at least an hour or so tonight :nervous:

My head is about to explode.... I hate that damn mx5.. God how i wish it was week 13 so i could dive the legends again.
 
Thanks for the fee back guys. Decided to do V8, simply no good mustang races during my hours. Might get the skip too just to see. I mean the skip participation level is insane. Multiple splits and I haven't even seen one non official race.

Trying a MX5 / Mustang multi-class endurance league this season. I'll be driving the MX5 as I dislike the Mustang enough it real life that I can't even force myself to drive it in a video game. LOL

Should be interesting, first race is 90min at Daytona.

If you don't like any of the class D cars, don't buy any. If I recall correctly you can use the MX5 again in one of the multi-class series to get through D-class.

Buy Daytona for the Grand Touring Cup and the 2.4 coming up (the Showdown before the 2.4 event uses it and the MX5, but the 2.4 needs a Mustang or Riley).

I bought the tracks needed for the Grand-Am cup hoping I'd get there fast, but plateaued at 3.5 SR on D :( . The MX5 isn't helping either, lol.. I need to just go slow and lose the iRating so I dont have incidents, but in the race I cant, hahahah.. So I push hard going over the hairline limit on the mx5 and spin out or going off track and losing several seconds...
 
Yup! Just do the Grand Touring Cup on the MX5 and that will get you oout of rookie while minimizing your costs!
 
Do what I did, Look up the various series you want to race in, put the tracks into a spreadsheet or just use pen and paper, tally up the ones raced more than once, those tracks should be your buys.

So if you follow what Jav said, you look at the tracks in GT cup, then you look at the series you want to race in, check which tracks duplicate, buy buy buy.

Swift, the Skip works out good for us down this side of the world, I've been running for a season and a half, and only had 2 unofficial races. You can start racing on the first day of the week if you want, and also crank out several races a night too 👍.

A question for some others in here..

I'm looking to step up and do the odd race in the Radical, they seem like long races, is it normal to have pit stops in that series ?

And I also brought the Ford GT to do some of the Proto/GT Fixed MC races but realised I have done no MC races at all so far, do you guys reckon it'll be all right to jump straight in or maybe do some of the lower MC catagories first ?

Man.. its a real grind to get SR now, lol.. races with 2-4 incidents only get like .1-.05 :( I wish I got the .65 from when I was in rookie, lol
 
The DP is a driver's car, you throw it into a corner and come out with a huge smile on the other side! Suffering a bit at the moment with the NTM, but a good setup will take care of most issues and the rest will be taken care of by the staff in future builds.

Lol! wait till you get to over B 3.0 or A, 2 incidents will take all possitive SR and anything more than 3 will leave you on the negatives!
 
You DO NOT have to buy every track to participate in a racing series. Each series always has drop races, normally 4, so you can miss/skip up to 4 races per season and not have it effect your chances at a championship.


I just bought the Riley DP and I'm really enjoying it so far. I was waiting on it to get the NTM, now that it did, glad that I bought it.

You're running the Continental Tire series too? :D

I'll be hit or miss based on attendance and owning the tracks. I bought all but the last two tracks I don't own for the Mustang series. I'll purchase the Continental tracks that week if I see that I can make it to the race.
 
Have been practicing tirelessly at Daytona Road in the MX5 and think i have found the key to the MX5. It seems to be all about the brakes. specifically how you use them. Going into a place T1 at Daytona if you jump on the brakes too rapidly the weight shifts and causes the car to spin around(happened many many times in my first 10 laps at Daytona). even if you dont lock up weight shift will just bring the car around the second you move the steering wheel When i began to ease on to the brakes in T1 the car was so stable i had to chuckle at how ridicuously different the entry to the corner felt when i eased on the brakes and eased off. Laps time dropped from a 2:21 to 2:17.5 with more to come. Maybe that might help in this car and some other cars.

Yeah, making races might be a problem for me too, depending on my work schedule. I normally only have to work weekends once every 3 months, but I might have to work weekends every other month. Also I may or may not be moving back to the US in the next 3-4 months as well.

I haven't ran many of the oval/road hybrid tracks like Daytona and I've never used the MX-5 in anything longer than the typical ~30 minute race, so it should be a unique experience. Given how predictable and simple the MX-5 is to drive, I shouldn't have any problems finishing, but this first race I'm not even really expecting a top 5 finish, I just want to get a good feel for the car and track.
 
You running the test race or whatever it is this weekend? I can't because of work.
 
Got a question with the Skip, it looks like its quite hard to see the rev counter etc from the youtube vids, do you need a iphone app for this? The GT cars I have raced have the dots so its quite helpful but doesn't appear in the Skip.
