I just led the skippy race for 14 laps, built up a nice 3 second lead... and then spun in T1. Crap. That sucked. I could have had a nice, juicy 116 points to launch me up the div 3 leader board. Oh well.

This weeks configuration of Watkins is sooooo boring. I can't bring myself to repeat the race tonight.
Really? I loved this configuration with the Skip.

Had a race last night, started in 4th and managed to grab 3rd still on the first lap if I'm not mistaken. I was pretty glued to the driver in front but on lap 5 or 6 I slightly touched the grass after the parabolica, spinning and crashing the car. Came out of the pits at 14th and it was a pretty even field so I wasn't even able to close the gap on the driver in front. Finished the race in 10th.

Ok, I can't get the world record for the Skip. My best is 1.26. World record 1.24. :(

I think I am losing massive amounts of speed in T7, I go into T7 on 3rd gear but I have seen the higher guys going at it in 4th gear. But after like 100 laps I can't seem to get how they do it...too slow on the straight for me.

Whats your best times guys?

I posted a video at the videos thread with a time of 1:26.142 if I'm not mistaken. I did a 1:26.0xx during a race but I was slipstreaming from the car in front.

The only turn I do on 3rd gear is T1, all the others are in 4th.

Oh and speaking of Watkins have you guys noticed how buggy the spotter is at the inner loop? It was funny at first but it got annoying pretty fast. Hope they can fix this soon.

It was freaking me out every time it called out a slow car that wasn't actually there.

your lap times are very good! 👍
My PB is a snail pace at 1:27.7xx and I use the baseline setup. In my race I think the leader was average lap times in the high 1:25's.

I have the volume turned up very loud when I play and sometimes the spotter really startles me when I'm concentrating very hard and he starts yapping about the number of laps or whatnot.
I've gotten used to it now though.

Go to the skippy board on the iRacing forums and find the thread for this week's race. In that thread you will find setups from fast guys and a hotlap vido from a fast guy using no advanced techniques. Copy the videos brake points, turn in points, and throttle modulation and you'll chop about a second off your lap time no problem.

Anyone doing the Roar Before The 2.4 on Friday? I would do it and the 2.4 but I have to work Saturday in the afternoon. Ran a quali for the Roar earlier though and put in something like a 2'15.4. Good solo lap, but you can take off another second with a drafting partner.

I feel like the changes to the Bus Stop make it a lot faster coming in, but maybe not any better coming out of it. The entrance is good enough to make you overshoot the exit expecting it to have just as much rumble strip, I know that much.

Setups actually doesn't do that much in the skip. Pros can use the baseline and get within a few secs of their best. However you should always find a setup that fits you.

For any of you guys who are getting good with the Skip Barber car, they've got an upcoming special series in which you can win a trip to the real Skip Barber Racing School.

I'm not that fast to begin with, and I'm really not fast with the Skippy, so I'll be passing, but good luck to all who try!

Yea I saw, I don't think ANYONE here are at that level that can win it haha.

Am I the only one who thinks its a little dodgy that iracing does 2.4 hour special race on the NEW daytona race track? $$$ anyone?

modded Setups can do wonders for lap times and lap consistency! You should work on tweaking your setup for the Skip! that may likely put you into the Alien category for PB laptime at WG!

Setup definitely helps gain those few extra tenths in the skip. However if you aren't very fast and consistent with the baseline setup then I'd be more worried about your driving before playing with setups

Im more mad that the current seasons dont use the new track, the old one is very aggravating with the bumps (knowing that the track has been updated). im glad i bought daytona early to get the update free because i would be very sad to have to pay 5 dollars to run the track in this seasons races.

No one wants to race on the old bumpy one anymore. Well at least the vocal guys on the forums. I know in alms we voted for Daytona repaved

I'm pretty sure that you'll run the new Daytona whenever it pops up this season. That's how I've understood all their news releases. Daytona '07 remains for private and hosted sessions.

More savings! iRacing added another 5% discount to every deal. 6 content gets 25% off now. Nows a good time to buy content. Deal until 2/20. I am dying waiting for the Nixim mod to get here.

Finally had a good race with the Skippy at Watkins Glen, finishing in 3rd. Driver in 4th was less than half a second behind me throughout the whole race! Fortunately he didn't push for a pass, just kept waiting for a mistake from me. Guess he didn't want to risk ruining both our races.

The spotter bug is fixed btw. 👍

The new Daytona is awesome. Really like all ambiance around the track like Ferris Wheel. Seems to be a good vibe going on for the 2.4hr race. I can't wait.

Btw Jav, got 1:39.0xx with that setup with room for improvement in my driving on the new Daytona.

If anyone is struggling with the DP, I'll be glad to share my setup for Daytona.👍 I'll be on later this evening and tomorrow from time to time.

On the skip the difference actually isn't much. Mine is tweaked to how I like it but just saying for the new guys, it's not that much of a big deal. More important to get use to the handling.

Yeah the Skippy forum has a thread about how to drive it. It explains that there's one or two settings that people change to suit their driving style and then they leave it that way for all tracks generally.

That's pretty fast! I'm strugling with a very unstable car at low speeds... Best time so far a 40.1xx, with an opt of 39.0xx but the car is a handfull on the infield!
Am I the only one who misses the bumps from the old Daytona??

Its fairly quick. Ranked 207th on the practice times as of right now. I would like to get it around a high 37 or low 38 for quali. I'm going to run some full fuel runs tonight to get an idea of my overall pace and how the car reacts throughout the run. By no means is a fast setup guaranteeing a good finish. Going to be consistent laps and whoever makes the least mistakes. Also, watch those yellow speed bump deals coming out of pits. They do a number on your suspension. Yes, that's from experience.

Also, I'll be on iRacing the rest of the night. If you want Jav, drop in a practice session and I'll get that setup to you.👍

I do like the old and bumpy Daytona, but I like the new Daytona for the added event stuff around the track. Looks just like it did a few weeks back in the 24hr race. iRacing did a great job with updating Daytona. I'll always have a soft spot for some restrictor plate racing on the old Daytona though. Hell, that's part of my GTP handle. Plate for restrictor plate and 88 for Dale Jr. 88 is also the year of my Mustang. Anyways, I like both iterations of Daytona, but for different reasons.

man this is what i love about iracing....

i was 3rd going nice, made a mistake, was 5th, made another mistake came 6th. 100% it was all my fault for not doing a clean enough race. Makes me want to get better.

Yeah, I get a similar feeling doing the F1 SOF races and V8 SOF races. You make the slightest error and drop a position or two, to win a V8 or F1 SOF race is something that is extraordinarily hard to achieve, and when/if you ever do achieve it you know you've really earned it. I love iRacing for that same reason. 👍
