Isn't there the tire % indicator? Although that would be nice if it was possible to have a race engineer...

On the skip the difference actually isn't much. Mine is tweaked to how I like it but just saying for the new guys, it's not that much of a big deal. More important to get use to the handling.

yeah, that is why the Skip is a good intro to setups for newbs like me. Not too many parameters and they can make a world of difference in bringing down laptimes and making the laptimes more consistent!
good luck!
:)

It doesn't work, at least in practice.. maybe in races it does?

I can get high 40s, but with no consistency.. I really need a tune, lol.. using med df right now, with hight adjusted and wing toned down a bit. I think I overheat the rear tires, and thats my problem causing a loss of grip a couple laps in.

You can look at tire % used in the setting sheet after the race. During the race you'll have to "feel" your tires and observe lap times. Once they drop and the car feels dangerous you'll know it's time to get fresh skins.

Are you on iRacing right now? I can drop in and get you a setup.

I've only raced 20 minute races with the mx5 so not sure how the tires feel as they die, guess I'll watch the leaders and base it off that

Awesome, name is Justin Treap.

Thanks

No problem dude:tup: Always happy to help GTP members. I've gotten my fair share of help also, so its nice to give back.

I definitely think the set could be faster with some tweaking. Most important is to drive and downshift as smooth as possible.

Lol, that's my problem, I'm a but violent with the car, haha

Your spotter will tell you when yo need fuel, he'll tell you you have 5 laps of fuel, then 2 laps of fuel left, don't risk it to get the last lap of fuel come into the pits and get fuel and change tires then. The 2.4 should be a 2 maybe 3 stop race for the DP, for the MX5/Solstice/Jetta it will be a 1 stopper.

Are you doing the Roar and the 2.4??

Ya, I'm logged in. Not playing right now, but if you want the set I'll jump in a practice.

I have my original set that got me a 39.0 and a slightly tweaked set that got me a 38.6 not long ago.

Yeah, I get a similar feeling doing the F1 SOF races and V8 SOF races. You make the slightest error and drop a position or two, to win a V8 or F1 SOF race is something that is extraordinarily hard to achieve, and when/if you ever do achieve it you know you've really earned it. I love iRacing for that same reason. 👍

What are you on about Mad. Winning v8 races. Your the bloody v8 champion. you well and fully understand winning. Lol.

Jav, I dont know how to send messages, lol.. but that setup you gave me on the few laps I did, seemed outstanding! I can actually drive with a bit of confidence.. Hopefully I can get consistent times.. will keep practicing with it.

OK, so on the home page of the Roar and the 2.4hr race it says there will be one quali session of 20 min. Seems there is multiple quali sessions though. Can you only enter one and that's it? Or do a few to improve times like normal? If anyone could clarify it would be greatly appreciated.

Also Jav, that set wasn't too bad, but I thought it had a bit too much understeer. I ran a 39.9 with it, but felt the understeer was making me slow down too much for corner entry. I'll test it a bit more today. It was more stable than the one I have. Just feel it could use a little less understeer. Feels like its kind of a "safe" setup which may not be a bad thing. What happens though when you put a full fuel load on? I think it could be alot of understeer.Could be my driving style though also.

Yeah, it's ment to understeer a bit, maybe give it some rear ARB to make the rear come arround better... It makes T1 entry much easier, but it's not the fastest thing out there...

For the Roar, there's one race in 20 mins and then there's another race at 9PM EST.

Edit: Damn!! 90 entries already and we still have 19 minutes before registration closes!! This is gonna be good, but it can go pretty bad if I get stuck on a split full of loonies...

Edit: 400 entries with 5 minutes left to register!

Edit:450 entries! Fanatec users secure your shifter cables they're about to get a workout!!!

I would donate a testicle to science not to be working right now and to be racing. It sounds epic.

I am officially jealous of all you dudes. Good luck and represent GTP!!

my quily session was horrible.... lost .10 driving a mustang and having 20 dp's fly past you a lap isnt fun..... i got hit like 3 times and forced to run wide and get 1x off's. one of the most aggravating drives ever. the practice sessions were nothing like this. i really hope the race isnt anything like this.

I'm gonna do the 9pm race. I haven't put much effort into the Roar though. Should be fun none the less. Still don't know which car I'd like to run in it either.:dunce:

Hey Spec, still another race at 9pm if you didn't see that:tup:

I'd love to, but I was at Mosport in the Stang the past two nights so my wife and I have a date night. If I break my date night I really will be giving up a testicle. :(

Good luck though!!

My go at a race report from a crazy race.

Skip Barber. Watkins Glen.

"WHAT THE F---- GLEN??"

Started 4th on the grid, first turn in I grabbed 3rd place. It was a race down to 5a with top 3 neck and neck. first driver goes into 5a slow, 2nd and me slow down and as we go through turn 5 the loop, its even closer, I hit for a contact 0x. Again in turn 1, I ran it close to the apex and he ran wide, he went into the outer areas of after the turn and I held my line. My heart was pounding as I knew
a) if he was a good driver he needed to let me pace as I had the race line
b) if he was a dweeb, he would of just crashed into my side.

*heart skips a beat*
a) he lets me pass. I am now in 2nd place. Good driving lines brings me very nice speeds into turn 5a. In 1 seconds time I was trying to do too many things at once. I realised I was faster than usual and I braked a little bit late, in that split second I had to think what the hell was I going to do, was I going to go into turn 5a and drive on the grass and pretty much lose a few places? I also looked into my rear view mirror for a split second and the other driver was very very close, to avoid a big accident and my process of logical thinking came into play, I realised I would be much better to go into turn 5a straight on, miss the turn and cop a "slow down". So I did, I parked my car there before turn 5 the loop and watched cars go past as I tried to recollect myself after that stupid blunder.

7th place, here we go again.

I keep my racing tight with minimal areas hitting those breaking zones.

6th place.

I continue to be within a few .xxx of my main lap times.

5th place.

At this stage the person infront of me was about 7 seconds ahead of me and I couldn't close it. Person behind was 10seconds away. I knew I just had to maintain it and 5th was mine. I am quite happy since I was #5, finishing 5 would of been ok.

3rd and 4th has an accident in turn 5a.

I managed to somehow get through both of them in turn 5a to grab 3rd!!

A few laps latter, some lapped cars were in front of me, I was scared, with a few laps to go and 3rd place being secure, something down the back of my brain told me to accept a crash.

Right behind the lapped car. We go into turn 5a. He holds his driving line (WHY?!?!?!), I hit him for a contact oc 0x. I saw his rear wheel and it seemed to be taken damage from a prior incident? Is the guy driving with a broken wheel I thought? I am going to be crashed out.

After turn 5 he goes in tight I take the outside.....
....

We're neck and neck as we go into turn 6 and he finally brakes and gives way. I breathe a sigh of relief. 3rd place, 1 lap to go, easy right?

Last lap as I slowed a little bit down (from experience, if you have secured your position, slow down!! secure the finish!!), then in the last few turns I realised some crazy lapped car is gaining heaps of time on me? Who was this guy? turns out it was the fastest car yet he must of got crashed out earlier, bent on revenge, his bumper to bumper. In my mind I am thinking what the @#$@#$@#....

Turn 5a, turn 5 and turn 6 he was bumper to bumper. I got annoyed, is this lapped car going to end my race in the final turn of the final lap??

Turn 7.

He brakes early and lets me go. Sigh of relief. 3rd place. Watkins Glen.

I'm going to do the 9pm. But I'm dangerously sleepy lol....been a brutal week. Still anxious for niximmod to arrive. Going to take a nap and hopefully wake up in time. Means I'll miss dinner thought.. But I really want to nap lol.

Wow, great write up swiftwilly! I caught myself holding my breath a few times there! Congrats on your finish by the way!

I will definitely be there with you guys! Still not sure if I'm going again with the MX5 or Jetta...

Ok, on a slightly different topic... Correct me if I'm wrong, but we are looking at about 100 laps for the DP on tomorrow's race correct? Trying to get creative with the startegy...

Change tires whenever you pit for fuel. I think most iRacing cars go through fuel faster than tires. But fueling takes longer than a tire change, and it happens simultaneously, so take advantage of that every time.

Anyone doing the Roar in an MX5 will not have to pit. 10 gallons of fuel would make it for a 90 minute race distance, you'll cover about 26-28 laps in 60 minutes. Estimated fuel blackbox will run you short if you don't go do a few laps with that fuel load and see what it says under load. Daytona takes more fuel than most places. I'd do 9 gallons I think just to be safe.

Probably not going to run the Roar myself. Missed the first one, I thought it was later in the day but I got off work when that started. I've got a pile of new PC parts here that I need to get started on and 60 minutes of Daytona doesn't sound as fun the second time. Working tomorrow afternoon so I'll also miss the 2.4. Ah well.
