That worked as a good test session for me. Okayama is so glassy compared to other tracks. I think I realized that every time I spun, it was on a corner after any of the slow 2nd gear ones. Diff seemed to be a little too open and spinning a wheel on those exits, giving me a cooked tire for the next turn.

Some scary driving in that group, during practice at least. :scared:

Yeah, some crazy guys in that session, just makes me think what a huge mistake on iRacing's part is to make the Caddy a rookie car... Got taken out in T4 and still managed to come back from the pits to 2nd. All in all a fun session.

I got a big project that I plan to show off a little bit in the next day or so. GOT tons of HW and tests to do by the end of tomorrow. hopefully i can get a good write up and YouTube video up.

I think I finally clicked with the Ford GT today. Ran two races, one in a ~2400 SOF race, finishing 7th (around the middle of the Fords), one in a ~1600 SOF as the pole Ford, finishing first. More points awarded in the first race though.

You have to really learn to steer less with the GT. I have been driving it, cranking the wheel at least 90 degrees and finding that it drives like a dump truck. Today I realized that you need to slowly feed in steering and find the point that it starts to understeer. Its much less than 90 degrees, so I've just been scrubbing the front tires very badly. Gained a full second on the first lap that I realized this. Another another half second on the next. Brought my quali down to 2'07.7xx at Road America in the GT Challenge series.

The HPD and Corvette are so easy to drive in comparison.

Alright that's what I'm talking bout 👍

I reached my goal qualifying time for indy oval-fixed this week. So I was ready to go try to win me one but I got unlucky and got tossed into a 'higher' split (1800+) much to my surprise. They have just as many wrecks as the mid split but they are a little faster. I'm going to have to step up my game now if I want to hit Top 5 :scared:

Ya I got put up to a "higher" split too, and they were just as bad, I had nowhere to go but rear end the guy who didn't go on the start and the rest was just me fighting the car, on the bright side, I finished 6th :sly: (there were 18 cars but only 8 of us stayed the whole race .) and I butchered my first Road america race in the GT, oh well

Now that you mention it, that's exactly what I'm doing, I'm driving it like a big 'ol CTS or Street Stock, I get a little understeer on entrance and the wiggles on exit, I just started and I'm in 2:12 -2:14 range, with the occasional full speed wall slam (brake lockup is an issue for me) on the last 90 with a sandpit and tires and turn 1 once

Good advice, I'll give that a shot next time I'm able to get on.

You are right about the HPD and Corvette, I've found both of them much easier to drive, but I prefer to drive the slowest car in multi-class series, other than the Riley DP (because I *hate* the Mustang). Once the McLaren comes out, I'll switch to using it from the Ford.

Iracing can't change the class, because since caddilac gave them the car for free (basically) there contract says they have to use it as a rookie class until it ends.

I know. But I think it was a mistake to sign that contract. They've got plenty of new content coming in, and I'm not sure that the Caddy is worth messing up their learning curve for.

I'd rather have paid $15 for the Caddy and had it C class.

The other thing with the GT, it really helps to adjust the brake bias during the race. The fuel cell is on the front axle so the weight distribution changes a lot once the fuel load lessens. The .25% increments on the in-car adjustments box are great. I try to keep it where the rear starts to feel light at the hardest point of a braking zone, I think it's easier to feel that and ease off the brakes than when the front locks and you plow ahead.

Changing the subject a little bit, I just used the ispeed lap annalyser! And it is amazing! It's quite basic and the map is a bit small and not very detailed but it really helps you to find out where your loosing time compared to faster people! I recommend it highly.

Yeah iSpeed Lap Analyzer tool is amazing I use it every week. iSpeed Lap Analyzer + iRacing FOV Calculator has transformed this backmarker into a front runner 👍

Btw anyone else uses iRaceDash on their iPhone? Every so often for me it loses the wifi connection while I'm driving

edit: figured out a workaround to fix iRaceDash

I downloaded I race dash and set it all up but I have a stupid question how do I get to the settings on the app?? They came up when I first got it but now I have entered the ip details and it has connected I can't get bk too it! Help! Lol

You have to go through the 'Settings' app on the iphone. Select iRaceDash. Now you can setup the IP address, etc. I just reset my IP there too

I am thinking about getting into Iracing but was wondering if there was any plans for graphical update to dx11in the works? thanks

Once you play it you won't care about the graphics! And in my opinion it looks better than gt5 anyway!

So it will fall between the Corvette and the FGT?

I thought it was supposed to be GT3 class? Isn't the Ford GT2?

Yup! GT3 cars are faster than GT2/E cars... Due to the way the class is governed the evolution of the GT3 cars have been way faster than the GT2/E cars and as a result they are now faster.

Yes, iRacing is working on dx11 update but as you can imagine it is an arduous task.

iRacing graphics as they stand are miles better then GT5 or any of the Forza games. Take the track Seebring, around the 2nd to last corner is about a 500m straight away. In iRacing as soon as you make that corner you can spot the traffic cones marking the turn to the home stretch. Try that in GT5 or Forza and see how close to the turn before you can make out the traffic cones.

Even at dx10, iRacing's graphics are amazingly clear. Try the 3 month promo deal, whether it is Road Racing or Oval Racing. That should help you decide if it's for you.

Basically. They use a more basic lighting engine and cars' finishes look pretty dull compared to just about everything else.

Who cares!

Agreed that gameplay is more important to graphics but lets take away our fan boy bias here, iRacing isn't known to have good graphics. But thats not why we enjoy it.

I do think iracing has good graphics! If u compare track detail with anything else it's miles ahead. Are you just comparing the shiny finish on gt5? Or forgetting that 80% of cars on gt5 look like there from ps1!!

The graphics in iRacing are very hit/miss. It's got a very very clean look, but it's very "static" as well, seems everything always looks the same. This is the lack of dynamic lighting that causes the problem.

If you look at other upcoming games like Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, pCARS, and even some of the current games like Ferrari Virtual Academy, the graphics on iRacing have a long way to go in order to feel "realistic."

Seriously graphics in iRacing? I've never even considered the graphics. I'm running everything on MAX settings and im satisfied!

Just remember, Nintendo 64: James Bond Golden Eye.
Or on PC: No one lives forever. 2 of the best games ever made with redicolous graphics... but the gameplay was the best ever = best ever games :)

Changing the subject yet again! Does anyone know what a good time for the skip around oulton park fosters layout is?? I'm doing some testing for this week and I'm down to 1 minute 7 dead, don't know if it's a good time or not tho I looked at the lap records but evidently it's never been run! Cheers

WTF? It's probably one of the best looking racing games there is. I agree that it's not the most important aspect though, far from it.
