Thank you John! I have at least another 2 tenths in me. I just hope it will be enough. I have until next Thurs night to set my time before the in-laws come to town... Then I will have to sweat the final weekend while watching my position drop.

Same thing happened to you last year if I remember correct.. Weren't you on a cruise or something the last few days and just had to watch the rankings?

Rees, if you've got a couple more tenths in you, you'll get there! I think your time right now is pretty money, but you never know what is going to happen.

Also, that was me last year that had to sit and wait for the competition to end. Actually there was two of us, Nick Fontana (Blindsidefive0) left for a ski trip on Saturday and I left for a cruise that Sunday morning. It was the longest day of my life, thinking about watching those stats the entire day and not being able to hop on the rig to defend my time still gives me heartburn.

You'll do great, and if you see your time slipping away and you are getting too close for comfort I'm sure your in-laws won't mind you carving on the wheel for a few hours to find a few more hundredths of a second.

I wonder how hot the Street Stock can run? The whole front field had a pileup and I had minor front end damage, but got around all the wrecked cars in third place. A couple laps later I noticed water temps at 260F...Nobody close to me on the same lap so I'd go a lap at full throttle then lift for about five seconds twice on the next lap, it'd drop about 20 degrees from that.

Guess I broke the radiator.

I don't think I've ever overheated in street stock but usually the wrecks are bad enough to pit same lap.

It never fails there are boneheads in those races, who can't be patient and force the issue of passing.

I guess one of these days I need to try to work on getting out of rookie road class, I suck it up badly there.

In Street Stock races I fall back to the back at the start and enjoy the carnage. I did that last night and finished 5th. Did that in a B-class oval race and finished 7th on the fixed setup while everyone else was running open. I'm not the fastest, but I'm good at keeping myself out of trouble and I'm consistent. I don't even practice oval races and my iRating is almost 400pts higher than my road iRating. That makes me sad though either I'm naturally a little better at oval racing, or it really is as easy as oval haters say it is. LOL!

Personally......I would drive whichever car I like best, even if it was slower. But I'm not a very competitive person in iRacing anyways. Like if they released a Ferrari 430 Challenge car, I wouldn't drive anything else, even if it was the slowest car.

You got a valid point! It just would be nice to get full Grand-Am style races but I'm sure a nightmare to keep up with that many cars in different classes. The Porsche thought I think would be bigger hit overall or even the RUF.

I think if they did that, they'd have to run each car as it's own class. Or make it a fun series and the car is picked at random, and that's the car you drive for the race, a lot like GT5 shuffle races

I've been thinking about getting the falcon, but the V8 and Mustang are similar in weight (heavy) and withe the NTM on the Mustang, I hate it, is the V8 any better?

They're different, but they are fairly similar cars. I'd compare the V8 more to the Caddy probably, although the V8 is a much more raw experience. How do you feel about the Caddy and the other GT type cars?

Me, I think the feeling of actually completing a race cleanly in the V8 is the best thing in the world. It's a pig of a car that's backwards in all sorts of ways, but driven right it is QUICK. And it requires real skill and patience to drive it well. There are certain places where you need to drive it completely differently than any other car, Mustang and Caddy included. It really rewards the driver. That, and the V8 races are some of the best and cleanest on the service.

Not exactly sure what you are asking, but if you are saying you want to serve a stop and go penalty without taking tires and fuel, you just have to open the individual screens for fuel and tires (I can't remember the default keys, maybe F5 and F6?) and then de-select them.

Remember though you have to do it each time you pit. So if you de-select tires/fuel at the start of the race, after you pit they will automatically be selected for the next time you pit. You can also adjust how much fuel and which tires you take as well.

I'm in "hate it" camp. I tried the fixed setup as well as a couple different setups I found for it, and I just don't like it at all. It just feels terrible to me, feels like it's running rock hard tires. I'll still probably try to run it in a race or two, I've only done test sessions so far, but it's probably my least favorite car on iRacing.

In the mustang, I suffer badly from tight-loose condition, where the rear has too much grip, then all of the sudden, it'll snap loose and I spin. However, I like the cadillac, there is a lot more to adjust, and is just easier to drive, the NTM really sucks on the mustang (to me) but I loved the OTM

Plus I'd add try looking around and see which tracks appear more than others and which tracks are more popular attendance-wise.
The one track with road that I've read many people talk about and reportedly has high-attendance is Zolder. I've only just started myself though so I don't know personally which are best.
It seems like Mid-Ohio is also used an awful lot in several series.

As for cars, well it depends what you want to drive. If you're looking for something to progress with in road thats a step up from the MX5, then the Skip Barber is the way to go.
But if you're looking to go with GT stuff, then maybe the Mustang?

On the oval side, I imagine the Nationwide/Late model car is the way to go.

The others have given sensible advice... so on the other side, I purchased some cars and tracks that I just wanted to have for fun. So for example, I got the Lotus 79 - which as of yet I have not raced but it is crazy fun to test.

so 2 months off iracing and i really got dealt the usual iracing other peoples mistakes hand...

qualified 5th in a SOF much higher than me, was doing really well and even battling for 4th until...

6th place does a MASSIVE spin and takes out 5th and me including himself.

I rejoin in 14th, battled up to 9th. Just seriously not fun. Nah I know people will go blah blah blah SR and you can lodge a penalty and this happens in real life blah blah....

1. I can't lodge a penalty for this, the guy just massively spins out and he hit random people including me, I know its not 100% his fault, simply due to the lay out of the track where he spun he just kept going onto the other side of the track

2. Yea sure it happens in real life but it still ruins your day.

Well not going to race Road Atlanta, that was it for me this week. Takes it out of you to take 1 week to prepare and other people's aggressive mistakes take you out.

I am sure I will have better laps, just its not fun having someone else's mistake ruin your week! (Especially when you take great care in not hitting other people)

I'll have a rethink of my tactics, I may seriously reconsider being so nice to other people and just go out and rear end people if they break too early. I realised that if you rear end people their car will probably dealt more damage. I am over taking care and driving realistic when others push beyond their own limits.

Your also taking my statement too literally. I am not going out there driving off line to rear end people. What I am saying is that clearly most drivers I deal with in iRacing sticks to their brake zones and ignores whats happening on the race track, might as well join the pack

I'm spectating this super fast dude driving a Star Mazda right now @ pole and guess what? He's using that 2fms move like no tomorrow....


Did you guys just not know about this move or didnt care to share the knowledge?

I've just used it in my last 2 road races to save myself over & over. My SR is climbing nicely and almost won a race. WhY??? Cause now I can run a super loose super fast setup. If I loose it who cares I mash both feet down and save myself 100%

I dont know how many new before (not me), but everyone knows now and its got me ready to quit. You see it in every race now. It has taken all the fun and competition away for me. Yeah I know I can use it also, but its still sucking all the fun out of it. People are overdriving every corner now. Lap times are dropping alot also now. Im one of the unhappy ones about this. Might as well have skid recovery along with the rest of the driving aides to go with it.
