Our first race in the Continental Endurance Sports Car Series is Saturday. 2.4 Hours of Daytona with the MX5 Cup and Mustang FR500S. Will be broadcast on www.GlacierTV.com and I believe the race start should be around 7pm eastern time.

Rules have changed a little to make use of some new iRacing features. For our inaugural season, all cars had a mandatory pit stop within the first third of the race. The lap number was determined before the race, and you had to come in for some kind of service, being stopped in your pitbox for at least 10 seconds. The MX5 can run the whole 90 minute race on about 10 gallons, so all we were doing was stopping whenever happened to be a good time to put 1.1 gallons of gas in, wait for the pit service timer to roll past 10, and get back on our way. Mustangs had a little different strategy, some would make a very late pitstop after the mandatory one for new tires.

Now we're using fuel capacity restrictions. MX5s are down to a 50% (6.4 gallon) fuel load, and I think Mustangs have about 60%. Both limits produce a 55-65 minute stint, so for the normal 90 minute races we have a lot of flexibility in deciding when to pit.

We had a practice session tonight where I ran my first laps with the fuel restriction. From leaving the pits to coming down pit road, I was able to complete 22 laps while the fuel pressure was plummeting. A 144 minute race has the potential for 64-65 laps at race pace, but there will be cautions. I'll be planning on a 2-stop strategy, taking full fuel and new tires each time. The tricky part will be deciding whether or not to come in early for service when the safety car comes out.

If you get a chance, tune in on GlacierTV. They do a great job.

I missed your post last night Eric, what days are you guys running? Are sign ups still open?

Hello Group,

Not sure this is inline with the thread, but I am new to iRacing and I am a bit confused about how you increase your safety rating to get promoted. Like all rookies I started at 3.0 and then it dropped to 2.3! A Lot of folks in the Mazda Cup (kids I am thinking) just run right into to you seemingly on purpose, so I would really like to move up and away from this. I am sure I've caused a wreck or two, but not blatantly.

Started with GT-5 and while I still like the game it would be hard to go back.

Would like some feedback from the group on strategies on surviving the entry level.

Thanks

I think it actually starts at 2.5 and you have to increase it to 3 to get promoted (or 4.0 for fasttrack).

There are two options to boost it up. Run time trials over and over just concentrating on no incidents. It will take a fair number to get over 3.0, but you could do it in a full night

Second option is to do races except don't actually "race". Start from the pits and concentrate on avoiding all incidents. Let faster cars go by right away, don't get into any battles with anybody and don't try to pass anybody unless they go off track. If you do this you should rack up SR quite quickly

If you don't know how to start from the pits just wait until the GRID timer runs out then click Race and it will take you to the pits. Just make sure that you don't speed when coming out of the pits and that you stay within the lines coming out or you will get a black flag stop and go penalty

Edit: posted too late.... But I'll add... just stay as clean as possible and you'll get a top 5 every time almost guaranteed.

Just gave the Spec Racer Ford a go around Laguna and what a fantastic little car, it really requires a lot of concentration to drive.

I haven't driven it for months, last time I drove it, I couldn't figure why I kept blowing it up  but that was when I was a rookie, I might give that a try this weekend, is that D class?

Yes sir, I wasn't racing it though, I was just doing a single car testing session.

I thought it was pretty cool when I was watching the NASCAR Nationwide Series practice and they started talking about iRacing as a practice tool for drivers to learn tracks. Every couple of months they always find a way to talk about iRacing.

I pretty much am oval guy, it just is why most interest me. Road just doesn't really fit with me for some reason, and the hill on limerock always gets me because I forget how light the car gets!

That's cool. I see your from NC as well. Me and some friends usually host up some kind of oval race or get in some kind of official race or practice about every night if you ever wanted to join us or anybody else here for that matter.

I have been stupid. I bought everything of the Grand Am championship over the Skip Barber cup becaus its for higher licenced drivers and becaus i liked the tracks a bit more. But now i realise there are no races during the day :ouch:

I've been considering buying everything for Jav's league.. But I better drive in the game first

Every other day the races are more to our timezone Maxitsu ;) today its not.. Tomorrow it's start early day, but my guess is that you wont find anyone there until 21:00 CEST.. or 19:00 GMT.

It's quite early in USA and a lot of the drivers are from there.

Maybe I see you on track then, looking forward to it :dunce:

Auto clutch is no need to push the clutch pedal, auto blip is the throttle. Some gearboxes need to "blip" the throttle when gearing. I have mine on Auto blip as I don't feel like heal toe witch I have to since my left leg is amputated :ouch:

Just had a nice run in the GT cup, started almost at the rear in 22nd with the Solstice and was able to avoid numerous wrecks and finished 8th overall, 4th in class. I got passed on the last turn because lapped traffic was a big factor in the closing laps. It seemed everytime i approached a lapped car it was in a turn and the girl behind me passed them on the straights so i lost a lot of time and eventually lost to her.

well i used both auto-clutch and blip and i didn't feel a diffrence i probably didn't use it on a car were you have to "blip".

auto blip is really for down sifting. its "auto rev matching" it helps with downshifting in cars like the mustang for sure. and the mazda, besides that im not so sure.

It could help for the mustang, i was a few times in neutral whit downshifting when i needed 2nd or rd gear? i don't know how i possibly could be in netral :scared:

Correct, I was thinking downshifting and typed gearing. No need to match the rev up shifting :scared:

I've dedicated myself to the SRF series this time around. It is very well attended so far and there is competition at all levels. The car is different for this season and considerably easier to drive but yet still challenging. The iRacing forum for this series is very helpful and supportive.

This week we are on Brands Hatch GP which is a great track for this car.

Guess I'm not racing today, since we have 80 drivers signed up for our league and 43 pit stalls. ****ing stupid as hell.

Guys I'm hosting a Pre-season test session with the Ford GT and Cadillac at Daytona Road now! no password 90 minute practice, 10 minute qualy and 20 minute race! Come on in and let's have some fun!

Just found out I bought a 500 euro computer that can't connect to the Internet an doesnt have a OS..

Bet if I looked deeper that ATi HD 7770 card would probably be something like 6650... :grumpy:

Tbh I don't know.. I think I'm getting 1gb on it..

Don't care anymore anyway.. Feel like snapping it in two...

EDIT: Jav, had a look back through the smallprint and they were clever with it...

Had "ONBOARD LAN PORT FOR BROADBAND CONNECTIONS" and then in tiny writing "for wireless connection contact us about wifi cards"

:grumpy: Now to wait a week for that to arrive and finally be able to use my computer.......

What? You think all desktops come with wifi? And apparently you have an operating system or you wouldn't be making it that far to begin with.

Generally speaking people do not use Wi-Fi on there desktop computers. Its is almost always just plug in the ethernet cable from your Broadband router to the back of your computer ethernet port "onboard lan port". So I don't think you got ripped off there.

As for the lack of OS? Does the computer start?
