Finally after some time stalking this thread I'm going to be able to try iRacing. Going to start of the Cadillac 3 month membership and then buy the 1 or 2 year subscription. Can't wait! Hope to race some of you soon :)

Sweet! Welcome to the service! Practice, patience and preparation is key to be able to progress here!
Make sure to use that referal, enjoy!

You bet I will. Just need to get some things sorted out on my new pc and I'm ready to go! I'll practice really hard to get used to the car and tracks so I can start racing as soon as possible. Thank you for the tips btw!

This is first time I've been in Impala B COT but I need some pointers for Charlotte. Do you guys use the brake at all or what's best way to be fast? 1 and 2 I actually get through pretty good running low but 3 and 4 I have issues with on best line or what works.

I had a decent race there for first time this morning in my first race til we had a bonehead driver. We were under caution on back stretch about to go green (heading into 3), and out of no where this guy comes flying up full speed and takes out about half the field. His excuses was he was on the clutch and couldn't slow down but ruined my race. He got into a pissing match about it with others, I just never get guys who do crap like that.

Its nice to see that iRacing doesnt reward aggressive drivers, another reason im glad i switched. But still you cant get away from these guys, its all ego.

He really didn't want to admit to making a huge mistake, we all have done it I'm sure. I've came close when I was texting but learned to not fly around on caution laps period unless I know where pack is.

Guys, this is a total new guy question, but here it goes;

How do you deselect tires for a pitstop?

In the options menu there are buttons you can set to scroll through your menus, one of them is tires. Then you have to set a button to toggle the check boxes on/off. You do it on the fly from the in game hub. Its kind of hard to uncheck the tires and watch your pit speed at the same time though, so i usually uncheck them on a straight away somewhere.

No brake at all. On your first lap going into T1 you can just lift a small bit to about 85% throttle then right back on it full throttle and get it on the bottom to the white line. I lift right after the first sign that's on the wall, but before the small second sign. After your first lap your going to have to let it roll a bit more before getting back on the throttle. I lift where I mentioned before, let it roll and get back to full throttle right at the end of the white charlotte sign that's on the wall.

For T3 I lift right on the white line on the track going into 3 to about 75% throttle until I get the the last big sign that's above the wall which is the sprint sign then I get back to full throttle. That's for my first lap then after that I lift just before the white line let it roll until I get to that sprint sign then back the full throttle. I try to kinda arc 3 and 4. I start kinda high and get it to the bottom right around that sprint sign. When I say let it roll I mean let out completely to 0% throttle. The nationwide B car doesn't like to turn on entry if your on throttle or if your trying to brake and turn at the same time on tracks you have to use the brakes.

I just ran my league race there tonight in the nationwide b car. It's a fixed setup series running the iracing fixed setup. A good qualifying time is a 29.1 and there's a few guys running .0's. I only qualified 12th tonight but everybody from 2nd to 13th was in the 1's with one guy running a 0. I start out running a 29.1 on the first lap and then 29.9-30.0 at around 20 laps with 30.1-2's at the end of a fuel run 55 laps or so. That's about what everybody was doing in that race. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any more questions 👍.

Thanks a bunch, I'll practice some more on trying that! I honestly was using a little brake to set the car in the corner and power out but was never fully off the gas much if any. T3 always seem to throw me off because I tend to prefer entering lower than most but not sure why. Over the course of a run, I do drive it in deeper than guys I was catching which I'm sure was burning up the right front. My fastest time period was a 29.3, which I knew I was off pace but I rode in the rear to get a feel and follow.

There are tracks I use brakes at that people don't as much but I guess I prefer a different style so we will see. I will say I suck at backing a corner up when I'm racing hard.

the default is (IIRC) F4 key for fuel and F5 key for tires. Use the Arrow keys on your keyboard to move selected options and press the spacebar to select/deselect.

What I do is after entering the grid waiting for the race start I go to the fuel and tires and deselect. However, I only run sprints in road races so I never need to pit for fuel and/or tires.
And if you pit for any reason the tires and fuel are turned back on and you need to deselect them during the race as Kevin mentions above.

Just downloaded iRacing. Still need to do an update to Mid-Ohio. My impressions so far are really good, I'm enjoying it very much! And by the way, is a 1.00.600 lap at Lime Rock any good? I did it with the MX-5 Cup.

Not bad. My fastest is 1:00.757 so your already faster then me :)
Right now the top qualifying time at limerock is 58.729

Thats a good starting point, it took me a while to get into the 59's consistently. Very fun little track, i still do it from time to time.

At 10:15? I don't know.. Gotta get up early tomorrow, plus I hate Okayama.. :dopey:

Ah ok, hopefully ill have another good finish here. Just depends how pesky the mx5's will be.

edit: sweet i qualified 1st in class and 4th overall, but there were a lot of sand baggers who didnt qualify. i never had any competition in my class and won by a large margin, but finished 8th overall. Picked up 80 irating points in the process and moved above 2000 for the first time!

Did you get run over by any Jettas..? :p

No, there was only one that didnt qualify and i let him go easily. A few mx5's dive bombed me and i had to come off my line to avoid a wreck, but they were faster so i didnt mind. The closest Solstice was 13 seconds back, but i think the one behind me got caught up in an incident on lap 1 so i really had no one to battle. Im about to hop in the next GTC.

Did my first few races today. Finished 9th in the first one while trying to take 1st (I spun out at the last corner of Lime, no incident with the other driver though). Did 3 more races, 3rd race brought home 1st place, last one 3rd place. Not bad, and I didn't find any reckless driver, only had a close call with one when he almost squeezed me off track but I managed to brake in time. So far having lots and lots of fun, doesn't compare to any other racing game/sim I played.

Pretty fantastic results. Nice job :)

Thanks mate! did some more today, got out with another 1st place and second after a black flag for jumping start (clutch pedal slipped lol), and also made my first 59.xxx lap in a race, yay! Anyone racing tonight? One more Nvidia cup race and hopefully I'll have enough iRating to enter inRacing challenge :D

Just installed iRacing and first impressions are great. It is waaay ahead of any other sim for around the same price.

Anyway, I'm starting low down (car wise) and I'll make my way up.

See you guys on the track.

I don't know any other sim more expensive, just wait until your out of rookie and buying tracks.

Have fun! Remember your main goal is to get out of rookie :)

So, anyone want to persuade me, to finally buy this game, when my paycheck comes in? You guys know that I've been around, heard the good stories, and the HPD stories :guilty:.

But, give me your impressions and ratings. Honesty appreciated, please.
