How they expect anyone to drive that way without Brake and throttle assists is beyond me. How much fun would a 30 minutes+ race be? Probably zero.

Edit: I haven't figured out how he's doing anything except steering in that video.

Edit2: That being said, I'd totally play an iRacing Mobile game like that on a tablet or whatever.

Re edit 1: It might be like the ipod version of shift. When you are touching the screen it continues to accelerate until you take a finger off, then the brakes are applied.
Re edit 2: Sure, that would be very cool - but keep it as a separate section.

It looks more like a 'try it without the investment' scenario, but without a proper controller it certainly will not highlight the physics at all - in fact it would really only encourage me to get into GT5 / Forza... etc. if I really wanted to get into virtual racing without a wheel.

Most likely what we're seeing on that video is a demo included on those laptops, it is a partnership with Intel so it's a win/win. This opens up the possibilities of making up some nice periferals using touch screens!

All the "Doomsday" attitudes towards this touch implementation are really unfounded IMO. Very VERY few people are going to play regularly like that. I can imagine it would get pretty uncomfortable after a 25+ minute race. I believe that the people who try it and end up liking iRacing will at a minimum graduate to a gamepad and maybe even a steering wheel. This isn't going to effect most of us in any way shape or form.

But the potential future outcomes for all of us are pretty cool. Other ways to interface with the sim, maybe touch screen pit boxes?

I like the fact that they are now allowing us to adjust weight ballast in test sessions.

I think the pit boxes are clickable now.

Well, clickable yes, but I'm not going to use a mouse during gameplay. However if later on they come out with the ability to move the pitboxes to an external touch screen, I would absolutely utilize the touch. Not sure if they would be able to do that though.

I like the dirty windscreen addition. Hope that it looks good.

Do you have to change a setting for that to work?
I just raced 15+ laps right on another drivers bumper (MX-5 vs my Solstice) - with him going off track and kicking dirt quite a bit but I didn't notice anything different.

I guess we can expect something similar to this:

From 1 minute to 1:10 of that movie just doesn't make sense.. It's a true sim. Sim means simulating of driving in iRacing. And then he touches his screen with two tums. Gotta be joke of the year.

Or maybe there are coming some new controlled race cars in 2013 I didn't hear about. But I would be interested to see how driving a race car with a touch screen work ;)

All in all I agree with Superbike on this one, no need to get all doomsday about it, it might give us some new drivers that fast will change to a wheel and become the next racing nerd among us.
And like Jav said, I doubt anyone will notice any differences in the rookie races, some drivers in there _looks_ like they drive with either arrow keys or WASD (I know this isn't possible, but it still looks like they do it)

But my first thought was.. What the F...!

Im just hoping the new radio chat isnt as difficult to use as it was to read how its supposed to work. Im also not real happy about no lotus yet. Was my first pre order and Im pretty sure it will be my last. They should put content out for pre order till its ready to release for sure. :grumpy:

Guess all our questions will be answered shortly, new build being deployed right now!

In my time in iRacing this is the first time anything has been delayed. So I really don't see it happening again soon.

About the new radio I think it will be pretty easy when we have our hands on the new build to test it out. At least we figure it out ;)

Pre order is a good thing if you are ready to buy 2 things and can't find a 3rd thing to make you be able to get 10% price reduction. And then something you like comes up for pre order. Then you can buy the (lets say) two tracks you wanted and then you get your pre ordered car or track when it's done.
Other than that Pre order is just a way to give iRacing you money early so they can grow in their bank account instead of your own. Just a stupid deal. If they at least could give a bonus if you pre- ordered stuff it might be interesting.

But when they give out two tracks and one car and call it a bundle, fair enough, but you get the same bundle if you buy those tracks and that car in a year.

On a side note I sometimes pre order a bit based on currency, but the USD have been pretty low compared NOK the last months and kept pretty stable so not much to earn.

I normally dont pre order anything from anyone, but was kinda excited to have a open wheel car in iracing I actually want to drive. Even bought zolder in week 13 because was supposed to be the first track for the 49. :dunce: Now that dont look like it will happen.

If we miss the entire Zolder week they better reschedule it for later. Drop one of the more common tracks from later in the season and use Zolder instead. I can't remember exactly what the L49 schedule looks like.

They should drop Motegi to allow for Zolder if it is missed.

The member site is still down for maintenance but you can go ahead and download the updates if you want 👍. I'm downloading now.

Safety Rating = Negative Rookie class license. Rookie -196894697845. Yes, below -9000. Whoever thought of this must've had some serious fun in the years since the discovery of recreational drugs.

Lotus 79 is much better overall now.

Windshield buildup is cool, just need dirt buildup on the actual cars now too.

Only got to play for about 20 minutes, haven't been tested anything else.

Release notes are out.

I'm sorry, what the hell is this ****?

Sorry to bring this back up but this is my view on it....

iRacing will be happy to include this as it will encourage new members to join that don't own a wheel etc, meaning iRacing will earn more money. However what they don't realise is the effect this will have on the current iRacers that use a wheel etc. More than likely there will be more crashes and eventually a new generation of iRacers will be brought into the community. Many original iRacers will more than likely leave due to the increased amount of crashes. Meaning in a whole, iRacing will lose money.

I think they should make a seperate section where touch and mouse racers can race against eachother.

After all, iRacing is claimed to be one of the most realistic simulators at this current time, so doesn't this take away the simulator-ness and make it more of an arcade game as people can use anything and everything to drive.

In a whole, I don't think this is a good move from iRacing especially as more big names like rFactor are bringing out a new simulator.

I did bought & tested some cars, whitout any practise i immidiatly jumped into races whit cars i don't know. ofcourse I am alot of seconds to slow in all cars but i think i can close the gap whit some more experience.

I tested the HPD ARX the Corvette and The Ford GT in the same champion.
I think i will pick one. I love the big grid.

I also tested the Star Mazda. And I love that car. My first opinion: its easy to drive but not easy to be fast. So it was a mistake to jump into qualy & race whitout practise. it cost me some Irating & SR. I also like the way how you can catch oversteer whit that car. It would give me a big challenge to drive the Championship.

Later i gonna test the Ford falcon and the Jetta. The problem is i love most cars and championships. That makes it hard to pick a league.

Cool. I've downloaded the new build this morning before going to work, didn't get a chance to test it though. I'll try the L79 tonight. :)

yeah i can use 64-bits!

That finger driving technique is cool, but not for a sim. The first driver who hits me when using his fingers i will report immidiatly for unsafe driving.

I'm honestly wondering if iRacing is up to something else and that's why they are trying out the touchscreen / etc. controls.
Right now they are a racing simulator, but I could see why they would want to test newer controls - sort of a 'for the masses' introduction to driving a sim - should they decide to branch off into a driver training type of programme. It's a stretch I'll admit, but there must be something to the release that isn't obvious. Honestly - try holding your screen for only 3 minutes and then try to imagine how much fun you would have in a 30 minute race - then go clean your screen off

I always use my fingers when driving. :sly:

But you use a steering wheel.
