Lol not this conversation again :p :sly:
It got pretty intense and defensive on everybody's part if I recall last time since there are a few Brazilians here

Brazilians and Italians are just very aggressive drivers in general. I can't comment on real life Brazilians, but I lived in northern Italy for two years and they are EXTREMELY aggressive behind the wheel. I've traveled to and driven in around 25 different countries, including several middle-eastern countries and Italy was the only country in which I regularly experienced the invisible third lane.

Imagine driving down a two lane two-way road and someone decides to pass you. You move over a little and the oncoming driver moves over a little while the passing driver goes right down the middle over the dividing lines. I've seen this happen almost everywhere, but Italy was the only country other than Honduras where I experienced it as a part of regular everyday driving. But Honduras is a different animal altogether since they didn't even have a formal driver's training program or license test.

Maybe Brazilians drive in a similar manner in their country?

According to my Brazilian friend, driving in Brazil is almost as bad as driving in China. If not worse. A bit worrying as the Driving Standards in China were... well let's just say I was holding my breath during every intersection.

Brazillians think they're Senna; Italians think they're driving for Ferrari.

Haha, this is a very good quote and is true to the crazy Brazilian and Italian iRacers. I don't think I've had any run ins with Italians. Usually just Brazilians. At the same time though, I've had some really epic races with some Brazilians a few times. So, there are a lot with good sense I feel. Because I usually race people like I would in real life. Now days, that gets me yelled at a bit but, the Brazilians seem to love the fact that I will race against them like that.

It all depends on time zone, race on an Euro friendly split and every now and you'll find a crazy Italian. I've encountered both crazy Brazilians and Italians, but the US shouldn't feel left out either, plenty of loonies here too!! Lol!

We have reincarnated Dale Earnhardt Sr's ;)

I've experienced the crazed brazilians myself too, it's unfortunate really, because all brazilians in general are VERY fast and friendly. They're good guys.

Having said that, I've raced toe to toe with some of them with no incidents at all, make for some fun races. But in general I have to agree, I'm careful when around them.

Evening Daytona Road Course with the DP or McLaren is just so much fun. I forget how much fun it is after the week is over. Just ran a race and won by 5 seconds.

I won my 3rd Skippy race today, in Laguna Seca no less. So far I've gotten 2 of my wins in the less likely of tracks -- Laguna Seca and Suzuka (The other was in Watkins Glen but that track isn't as daunting as the first two).

Hard to call. Should really be the guy behind that's at fault but I would probably call that a racing incident

It would be so easy to blame the person that ran in the back of the car, but it could just as easily be an accident.

Also, just logged in and it says its got some updates. Any idea if these are minor or major stuff?

Who's fault?

While there's nothing wrong with your move it is a move I wouldn't try on iRacing as it is so easy to loose all reference for the car that had just been overtaken, which I'm pretty sure was the case there. Again, nothing wrong with your move but it opens the door for an accident like that 9 out of 10 times in iRacing.

Hard to call, you passed him cleanly, and there is no denying he hit you, but you did move over in front of him at the last second and that's a difficult corner as it is already, my guess is he wasn't expecting it (or not paying attention) and you probably startled him, not really anyone's fault but I don't know if it was worth the risk.

He argued what a few of you have said, that I moved in front of him before the corner. Where as, it was me realizing that I had a meter or two in front of him before going in the corner and I could take my normal racing line.

I merely deemed it as a racing incident but, he was putting all the blame on me.

It would be helpful to see the replay from his cockpit.

So I just realized this week has been good for me. I hit some sort of mini-career milestone this week.
  • I got fast-tracked to B License 3.69 SR.
  • I won 3 out of 4 races this week in Laguna Seca (Not an easy track by any means).
  • I won my highest SOF race to date -- 2364 (Not particularly impressive but still worthy of note in my humble opinion).
  • This last win got me past 3000 iRating.
  • It was my 10th overall win out of 58 starts as of this post, 5th Skippy win.
Eh, just thought I'd share. Not like I have any IRL friends who I can talk to about this stuff, so I resort to you, my digital peers. :)

It's a move that I wouldn't think twice about as an incredibly great move if I saw it on the track but the sim is just different in how spatial awareness is perceived so I'd just call it racing hard. And to the argument that you "moved in front of him," This is racing and that's how racing is accomplished, some people start to cross the rules of civilized street driving with racing and it doesn't work.

So far oval indy is pretty similar to street stock for me. I'm slow so I start at the back and then slowly gain places as other people crash. Then finish in the top half of the race and gain iRating. Last night I had a strange race where four different cars either spun out or crashed trying to pass me. I gave lots of room on the inside. Three cars hit the apron. None of those three touched me. The fourth veered into me after the corner. I was still ahead of him so it's not like he didn't see me. He ended up crashing and we finished the last four or five laps under caution.

I don't think you did anything wrong, but I agree that its a racing incident. It was a move that put faith in his ability to recognise the situation and react accordingly very fast - and he didn't. Perhaps he doesn't have the situational awareness but who knows.

I had a similar collision yesterday in the Skip Barbers at Laguna Seca - I'd overtaken another driver on the run between turns 5 and 6. I'd successfully passed him entirely and he was running an inside line still. As I'd cleared his car and turn 6 is not a corner you can overtake or run side-by-side in easily, I decided to take my normal line and effectively shut the door. He decided to not brake and make an overtake. Inevitable contact basically. Although I actually wonder if I could have avoided it at all - he seemed to completely lack the awareness of what corner we were approaching and that I really wasn't just going to leave a wide open gap for him to drive down.

But I also consider my incident a racing incident because I also put faith in the other driver recognising the place was lost and where and when to fight. Its frustrating but just unfortunate how racing is sometimes as everyone views things differently.

I guess because of my real life experience. I expected him to think like a human rather than a human on a simulator lol. Doesn't have to think about potential life risks and damage costs ^^

Yay, so now I have 3 months of iRacing.

Having no idea about a lot of it, where do I start?

Are there any series that GTP people do in iRacing?

1st thing is to install and configure the software, on the iracing home page, select Reference > Documents and tools > Quick Start Guide, and follow the steps.

One important thing is to set the correct Field of View (FOV), in game, under graphics options it asks for measurements (screen width/distance etc) enter them and use the FOV it suggests. It may seem like a tiny window, but the correct FOV can make a huge difference.

On the road side, as rookie you start in the Mazda Cup, which from tomorrow will be racing at Laguna Seca. (the tracks change each week, and a week runs midnight GMT Monday night for 7 days), so your best move is to practice at Laguna Seca in the MX5, there are two MX5 cars, cup and roadster, one is left hand drive, and one right hand drive, they are equally as fast, so choose which ever side is more comfortable for you, and practice for a couple of days/until you can do 8-10 laps without falling off.

When you feel you're in control of the car, try an open practice session to get used to driving with other cars on the track, to get you used to being overtaken/overtaking.

Then, when your comfortable with this, try a ghost race. On the homepage > Events > Ghost. pick a Mazda Cup race and enter. You will start in the pits as a ghost car, you can't hit anyone and they won't be able to hit you, this is the best way to get some experience of how chaotic the rookie race can be, without trashing your Safety Rating (SR) or iRating (iR).

Next step is to actually race, if your nervous, you can start from the pits by waiting when the green button says "Grid" until the timer runs out, and changes to "Missed start" If you enter when it says missed start, you start from the pits.

In rookie, if you crash your car, you can get a new one automatically, by pitting, always do this instead of rage-quiting, it helps vastly in rookie with your SR and iR.

A good set of threads for rookies to rread can be found on the iracing forums :-
