And something else, how do championship points work if there are so many races for one event to give everyone a chance to race?

Just finished a Grand Am race where some guy was making fun of me saying "Thank You" when a McLaren let me by... maybe he was having a bad day. Or, is that weird?

Tracks change tomorrow ;) So you'll be racing Laguna Seca tomorrow. Click "Schedule" to see the track calendar for that series.

Every race that goes "official" (has at least 8 drivers I think?) scores championship points. The points are based on the "SOF (Strength of Field)" - which is calculated by the average iRating of the drivers taking part.

So if you run 2 races, and finish say 5th in both races but one race has low iRating drivers and one race has high iRating drivers - you will score different amounts of points.

Points are also calculated by your best of 4 results for the week. If you race more than 4 races, then it starts averaging your results - most people that are trying to win the overall championships only race 1 or 2 races per week at each track for this reason.

I wouldn't worry so much about that yet though as simply finishing races without contact is hard enough! Its also better at this stage to run as many sessions as possible rather than the minimal amount you need to do for winning championships.

Since he's from the Americas, for him (and me) the track change is today, though. So yeah Bopop, expect new tracks every Monday night.

First runs in Lime Rock I got down to a 1:01, so there is about 2 seconds on the table if I'm reading the overall lap times right. Way trickier than any other sim I've played, especially coming over the hump at Lime Rock. :scared:

Couple of questions.

1. Which is the preferred Miata for Laguna? It seemed to be in favour of the roadster for Lime Rock, but I don't know about Laguna.

2. Why is it that the wheel in game only goes 90 degrees, but the telemetry gives the true reading? I don't like how it just stops at 90. In an offline version I played, the wheel did the full travel in game.

As for cup vs roadster, it's just personal preference of right or left hand drive as far as I know

Regarding the wheel, I'm assuming you are using a Logitech wheel, you need to download the logitech profiler from their website then go to global profile settings once downloaded and change it to 900 degree from 200 degree (measured lock to lock)

As for being competitive in rookie, it has very very little to do with lap time and has everything to do with collision avoidance and being capable of staying on track for consecutive laps, the more clean laps the better you'll do, easier said than done too. Use Practice mode not just test mode and get comfortable then race when you feel you're up to it

Assuming you're talking about the visible rotation , disregard the wheel in game. Or like me , switch it off all together :)

This is just graphical, the arms would look streched I guess. I turned the wheel off because I hate haveing _two_ wheels in my "car". I have it on in replay mode though, but I took off the drivers arms so I can see the correct steering input.

I realise that the schedule said Lime Rock yesterday, but I was trying avoid the "I practiced at Lime Rock, and now the tracks changed" complaint :)

1. Personal preference for left or right hand drive.

2. If you mean graphically, its just the way they've coded it, turn it off/ignore it. If you mean you only have 180 degrees of movement in your wheel, then you need to reconfigure/install drivers, which wheel are you using ?

3. 1.01 will be competitive in middle rookie splits, if you can do the whole race without falling off, you can expect to be in the top3-5.
At Laguna, 1.44-1.45 should be competitive in the middle rookie spilts, 1.46 if you don't fall off all race, which is harder at Laguna.
 
But the roadster and the cup are very different though, ones a 5 speed and one is a 6 speed.
I noticed that I was able to accelerate better than the cup cars, but I'm not sure about if it would be better due to the majority of turns favouring the left hand drive cup car.

I had done some research before for Lime Rock and everyone was saying to go for the roadster, but I would like to know which is faster for Laguna.


Ah, so it is just the way they've coded it, I can get the full travel on my G25. :)


My best lap in practice last night was a 1:47, with a theoretical best of a mid 1:44.
Still braking WAY too early on a lot of the turns, so with a bit more time I should get it down to a consistent 1:44.
(I actually found Laguna to be easier than Lime Rock, the car seems much more stable at the higher speeds.)

I like the cup better, I'm used to left hand drive, but it also feels more balanced to me and feels like it can be pushed a bit harder than the roadster can, at least in my experiences anyways.
 
Anybody finding any of the car and track combinations this week interesting? I'm not a fan of this week at first glance. Going to give the Proto&GT a go at Mosport though. Seems like a crash fest so, my survival skills will hopefully help out a bit.

Check out the forums for setups. I have not been on the track yet, but people are saying you have to raise the ride height to avoid bottoming out and having damage. There is also a problem with grip @ the track seams. I love the track and the car.

Hmmmm. Just had a go in the HPD around there. 1:05.634 with the fixed setup. I assume the aliens are around the 1:03 range then. And no damage from what I've noticed.
 
Getting ready for my first ever iRace, actually really excited.

Best was down to a 1:43.7, so I'll be happy if I can pull of mid 44s without incident.

Started last in 11th, made my way up to 1st by halfway and then had a great race with a guy 2 seconds behind. He was closing up each lap, and was only a tenth off me at the line. Best was a 44.7 done on the 2nd lap when I pushed it a bit.

That was fan freaking-tastic, nobody hit each other at the start, (At least that I could see.) and everyone was so clean and gave everyone else room.
Felt just like a real race, except there wasn't really enough adreniline to wash out the nerves, my braking suffered a bit because of a constantly shaking foot!. :lol: So much fun! :D

(Had the wheels dip off course a few times, still went up .10 safety, is that good?)

It's good, don't expect huge gains and losses in that department because of the numbers you are playing with 1-4.99. The only time you get big changes if if you move up or down passed a whole number like if you were 2.88 before a race, after the race gained 12, you really would be at 3.5 (it gives you .5 after each whole number loss or gain).

I'm never really concerned with either number to be honest, they will sort out where they are supposed to and if you drive smart, you won't really need to worry. People I think watch that way too much (I'm not telling you to not race hard but don't be a wrecking ball either and drive your race at your pace).

Finally I won again! It might not been the best race but I was top 5 all race even after losing it coming through 3-4 at Kentucky. I held off a guy with fresher tires for the win.

Kentucky is not one of the best tracks, I still have trouble finding the correct line at times or how to not get the car to either be tight or loose depending on the line BUT I love racing there because it fits my easy in, hard off not that dive the corner deal which I got SUPER lucky when someone tried to and saw him start to slide up which I was slowing down and he went way high after that.

Thanks, will keep an eye out. I've but around 3 hours of practice in and luckily I haven't been victim of it. Fingers crossed!

There's a really bad one in Laguna Seca, by the left hander just after the corkscrew, but you need to actually go off track to feel its wrath.
 
Hey guys! I hope you are having fun with iRacing. I have not posted in here in a while and would like to say thanks to all of you guys. I don't know when i will be getting back to iRacing but it will be a while before I return. I have a few issues to resolve. My GPU fan is now controlling itself. It refuses to stay at the same RPM so I usually have to have the fan as low as it can go and even then it will jump up and down about 200 RPM sometimes. I have also been applying for jobs (A spot at my local Best Buy has opened and I want to see if I can work there). If I do get a job my iRacing time will be extremely limited.

I hope to see you guys on track in the future. I will still post on these forums but I guess I won't have anything to contribute in this thread.
 
I heard real race car drivers get all the content for free.. I wonder if since I race with Skip Barber in real life if it's worth contacting iRacing and asking... :sly:

Mac, have you seen that tv show "Patrick Dempsey racing le mans" there was a quick segment where patrick was practicing at long beach with full structures and colors on iRacing and I think the show was based on the 2012 season
