A few of his are fine like Sepang but the majority of others are awful like Istanbul.
I always thought Istanbul was one of his better ones, for me it's Bahrain, Yas Marina and the Korean GP curcuit that I find a bit 🤬.

Ever since herman made turn 8 at Istanbul he basically makes it a requirement now to have a freaking multi-apex corner on every single track that he ever does, And there must be a runway long straight that ends in a 180 degree hairpin everytime.

Anyway did my first race in the SLM and i have to say the race was rather boring, when you have 10 cautions and 12 actual racing laps that is a bit ridiculous.

That's about like the truck at Daytona. Crash every 7 or so laps and that's the upper splits

I like Cota, raced it on Simraceway. But the GP layout is almost too long on anything but an F1 Car.

The Short circuit is nice.

Yea this was one split and the top 4 guys were fine with 5000+ iRating and one had a Pro license but behind us they just kept wrecking and wrecking.

Two circuits that he designed quite early in his career. He's obviously out of ideas. No Offense but, I think COTA is his worst circuit yet. Too many esses, too long, no exciting corners, and lacks any general flow at all.

Bahrain is actually one of his better ones (Again, fairly early in his career). It was pretty good fun in a slow Formula car. I was sitting there thinking it would be awesome in any formula car over 400HP.

True statement.

Shanghai was a massive disappointment. The long decreasing and increasing radius corners are too long. Turn 1 is incredibly boring because you are off the throttle and brake for something like 5+ seconds. The final sector at Fuji was designed by him and that is the worst part of the circuit. The old version was miles better. There's nothing wrong with it. It just lacks character that circuits like Spa, Suzuka and the old Silverstone have.

You don't like Istanbul? I can't remember if it produced good racing or not, but it was one of my favourite tracks in F1 2010. (I much prefer it to new Silverstone, for example). Sepang and Istanbul are my favourite 2 Tilke tracks, my 2 least favourite are Shanghai (first sector kills it) and Korea (each sector a different style, all terrible).

I agree many of Kamuifanboy's points on COTA, it's too long, and tries to fit too many things into one track. I won't be buying it.

Tilke didn't design COTA, he just built it.

He was part of it.

The layout was conceived by promoter Tavo Hellmund and 1993 Motorcycle World ChampionKevin Schwantz[6] with the assistance of German architect and circuit designer Hermann Tilke

Even if it wasn't Hermann who designed it. Why would a Motorcyclist design a Formula 1 CAR circuit?

I forgot that I've driven on Buddh as well. The middle sector there is fantastic. Everything else is horrible. Why do we need the entry of the corner to be 10+ car lengths wide?

I really hate COTA, i hated when i raced it in F1 2012, but it was actually not bad in MotoGP13, the track seemed to have a little more flow with a bike. Fuji though was absolutely killed when i raced the 2005 layout in GT4. Too much runoff and the final sector is trying to cramp to many turns in at once. They really shouldve left Fuji alone and kept the 2004 layout, and atleast redo hockeinheim's hairpin to something less abrupt/sharp. I'll defiantly be keeping COTA off of my iRacing track list.

A track like MoSport has more character, and it's more fun to drive than all of the cookie cutter new F1 circuits on the schedule today.

Tracks like Mosport, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, and Sonoma are some of the best tracks to drive because there is nice elevation changes and corner combos and they have a risk factor to them. Almost all F1 tracks have pretty smooth elevation changes and tight corners with miles of runoff.

Even a newer track like Barber Motorsports park still has the abrupt elevation changes. It doesn't have a mile long straight either. All of those are excellent tracks. I know safety is an issue, but when there's more pavement as runoff than on the track, paddock, and parking lot combined the risk factor for making a mistake is taken away. VIR is my personal favorite because of the huge degree of difficulty.

Mid-Ohio is probably one of my favorite tracks to drive but neither WSCS or proto/gt race there this season which is disappointing. Speaking of proto/gt i hope participation picks up on the weekend because its a ghost town so far and i've finally picked up some pace in the Ford.

I wouldn't count on it. I keep trying to get back into the vette, (my second favorite behind the mustang) but the HPD has sucked all the fun out of driving it. I was really hoping Iracing would see that and remove it this season, but no luck with that so I have mainly just been racing the mustang and playing around in some other cars.

The SOF times for Proto/GT are in red, you will definitely find a race on those times:

Theres only been a handful of official races so far but with some pretty tiny grids, gonna have to try the EUR or AUS times.

So I'm going to attempt my first Time Trial. I don't quite feel ready to actually race others yet (and subsequently become this hideous moving chicane) so I'm for the time being going down that route until I actually do feel ready. Where would I go to do those?

Also, looking to buy another circuit (after getting the Truck and CTMP last year because of the Trucks Series race). I'm currently looking at Sebring, Mid-Ohio (mainly for the Nationwide car), Daytona and Homestead.

I usually do a Sunday 10Am your time race that has gone official with 30+ cars in all 3 weeks so far. 10 HPD's, 14 Corvettes, and 6 or so Ford GT's is usually how it panes out.

On top right of "Race Now" there is a box called "TT" those are time trials. Just pick a time and have fun.

Thanks abunch 👍

So with that, I have done 4 Time trials (starting with the road course side) with the Mazda MX-5 at Laguna Seca and my SR has gone up 17 points. Now I just have to somehow stop from going into the grass at that corner after the corkscrew. Seems I have at least three laps where that happens.

Also, are all I need is four clean laps and that's it, or do I have to do more even after those laps?

Did you find practice button? If not - use it, to run a crap load of laps around other people.
Also, it has correct weather for the race, and weather can have large effect on grip.

You don't have to, but I usually keep going until the timer runs out.

You can also run a practice with other people as a ghost if you want to.
You probably mean ghost-race. It's when you join a race server, but nobody sees you on the track.
It's an excellent feature that isn't advertised enough. It's under events->watch/ghost/etc. Wait for an option to race at a given time slot disappear, then go to this section, find the race you want, connect. If you do this soon after the race server opens, you might have enough time to get out the pits and make it to the back of the grid, so that you can see what can happen at the start from the middle of it. Otherwise just wait for a group of people and try racing around them.

I now see why the proto/gt has dwindling participation. I managed to join the one large grid this week and on the same lap i had a corvette chop my nose off when it should've never happened in the first place and then on that same lap i had a HPD divebomb me into a corner and he punted me off track.

Edit: Finnaly got a good race at sebring and now im back up to 1st in points in my division for the Ford.

You know what is the best thing I've ever done in my Racing career. SIM that is.

Hook up my iRacing PC and just jumping in with both feet.

I absolutly love this SIM. Granted I've had my share of ticked of moments. However the majority of my time is spent with a smile and ending with satisfaction. Wanting more.

Anyone following this thread not on iRacing. Take the leap, you won't regret it if you are at all serious about racing.

your right Owen. when I first bought it, I didn't buy any additional content for like 8 months. I just screwed around with rookie street stocks and Mazda cup. it was great. I've now been on for a little over a year.
