Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Can anyone confirm that? Sounds crazy.

Better believe it man. The more money you sink into a certain car, the more money it costs to keep the chassis rigidity intact. It costs nearly 200,000 credits to keep my decked out Scuderia chassis rigid. I can't imagine how bad it will be for the 5 million+ GT1 cars or even the F1 cars. And this wears off every few races even with a clean race every time. Try it for yourself. I love this damn game though. I can't wait to get off work in 6 hours and save up the money for my Zonda F. But I dread how much it will costs to keep the chassis rigid...

How are their warranties? I've already heard some horror stories about customer service, so I'd like to know if I'm somewhat covered.

Not had any issues with mine, but I know they are a small company with limited staff, so while they make take a while sometimes, I don't think they are ignoring anyone.

What I would say though is DO NOT buy the basic pedals. Just don't even go there, they are nasty. Go Clubsport.

Just another example of this games short comings. last night I got my C5 Z06, slapped some exhaust on it ,and was unpleasantly surprised to find the LS6 engine noise was replaced with the horrible sound of import fart can.

I agree that GT5 is better in terms of driving physics but nowhere near a big a gap as some would have you believe. I hadn't played forza 3 in ages before GT5 was released (too busy with F1 2010) and I was waxing lyrical about the GT5 handling model on another forum. When one of the members suggested I go back and try Forza with same car, same track as in GT5. Picked three different cars, fwd rwd and 4wd around Suzuka and I was actually suprised myself how much closer was to GT5 than I thought. I'd still take the GT5 handling model over Forza but if I was forced to use the Forza one I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Yeah totally. I don't think it's a huuuge gap either.
I'd do a back to back test myself, but I can't use the dfgt on both and I absolutely refuse to drive with a ps3 pad

I am so loving this thread. Its the most satisfying read I've had in ages ... why? Read on dear friends...

I quite understand the defence of Gran Turismo 5, and the poor PS3 - I really do. If I'd spent the best part of $400 on the console for GT5, I'd not want to admit I was wrong either. I'd defend it, and I'd certainly display the exact kind of bitterness and resent that a large number of people here are showing - of course these people are angry and resentful, they've just been given the run around, by what could be one of the best hype-for-your-cash exercises in gaming history.

Thankfully, I waited (only just though, they nearly got me hooked with their media hype) and now, oh my, I haven't laughed so much in my entire life. No wonder the poor PS fanboys are stinging. Ironic really that the man responsible for such a game has initials like KY, when no amount of KY could possibly eliminate the sting of what has been shoved up peoples chuffs, dressed as the "Real Driving Simulator". Everyone that has played it, knows the faults, some choose to admit them, some choose to ignore them - whatever your persuasion in this area - there is a better way...

Ladies and Gentlemen, the door to the Forza lounge is open, you only have to step through it (and stop being so stubborn, we (Forza players, most of whom are actually ex-GT fanboys anyway) don't all like it for a joke, or because MS said we should - its because its genuinely a better game, with more freedom and tuning options to die for) and sample the joy, its ok, we won't hold it against you. We'll merely be glad that, just like I did years ago when I abandon GT4 and moved to Forza 2, that you'd made the step towards something not perfect certainly (hey, even Forza 3 has its issues) but far superior.

Nobody will force you to put the V12 from the LP640 into your Gallardo, or make your Dodge Viper(s) 4WD, or make you stick various other VW engines into your Mk1 Golf to turn it into the car it always should have been, we won't "force" you no. But, know that should you want to - you "can" do such things, for entertainment, for an experiment, or just for the sheer hell of it. Why? Because in our world, the gamer has freedom, and a huge stack of events (100 hours+) in which to exercise it. Personally, I like the Chevrolet Aveo with RWD and a Corvette LS1 V8 in it. Dangerous as it is.

Come to the dark side, not only do we have cookies, but we have visual tyre flex, fantastically bonkers tuning options, and a paint shop that you can use freely, to genuinely make your cars ... your own.

Nobody used to hate Microsoft, and for that matter, the Xbox more than me. But the time has come to realise, that actually - many millions of people aren't wrong. I was.

And here. We. Go.

But is it that hard to love both? Does everyone have to be one-sided?

Btw where does the PS3 and Xbox come into this again?

Chassis rigidity diminishes the moment you drive it out of a garage but you don't need to fix it until you've covered thousands of miles.

Likewise my friend. I'm as much GT fan as anything and still do play GT2 and GT3. But of course, because I like Forza (despite also playing GT Legends, rFactor, LFS, Race 07) that must mean I'm a fanboy.

I believe you are the demographic that KY can always rely on, more power to you.

I had a problem with my one straight out of the box. Took a little time to get a response from them but when I did they were great. Talked me through opening it up and I managed to fix the problem but they sent a new one anyway, so now I have one for back up. They can be slow to respond but once they do they are great. Have to remember they are a reasonably small company, going places and making products that the big guys won't touch.

Having played both games, I think GT5's framework is much better, if not perfect. The graphics and racing physics are superior. Keep in mind I'm one of the posters that can be found on this thread criticizing the game.

After that, it seems like PD saved some money with interns designing the interface and laying out the races/prize cars. It's an honest straight-line step backwards from GT4. There are races (Classics, Truck Race, etc) that you can't buy the cars for, and when you win championships you get boring concept cars you can't sell for beans and don't need. There's (so far) less game. Everything about GT5 aside from the framework and challenges, which I like, is a subset of what we had in GT4. Added some hot Italian cars, but all of the other ones are the same and fewer. 1000+ my eye. Races are the same, but fewer. The list goes on. The game just seems unfinished, which might be fine once they finish it.

For the record, it's a serious drawback for me that Forza lets you put a Vette LS1 v8 in an Aveo. Only a silly fanboy would consider that an advantage. GT has always been more serious, which I like in a sim. It's like when iPhone fanboys think their iPhone is better because you can use it as a terrible guitar amp. I like my iPhone, but that's just dumb.

Danoh, still at it huh.
Thought you'd given up on Forza. I haven't been on in awhile.

I'm back on Forza almost daily, but I'm hitting the career mode hard, haven't played online in months I must admit.

I'm actually more enjoying it for the sake of driving to be honest, sad as that sounds!

Biggest plus point of my Fanatec. It's bolted into my gaming rig and I don't have to swap it out no matter which game I want to play.

Also, the rain effect was enhanced for TGS and what we actually got in the real game left me hugely disappointed. Isn't it illegal?

weatherwtf.png

Dude if you have actually put some solid time into the rain races you'll notice that the rain density actually changes as does the direction of the rain.... so your comment and pictures are basically not an accurate account of how it is...

:nervous:
i knew something was different

guess all we can do is hope for dlc and gt6

Like the earlier post said, different car, different speed, dynamic weather, i would be disappointed if they were the same.

do you even know what you are posting? read your own post. does it not sound like a fanboy flam bait? seriously?

After reading through this whole thread, I must agree and can identify with most of the disappointed crowd.

The same three thoughts keep coming to my mind:
"Where's the beef?"
"They must have had a complete depletion of the brain and talent trust at PD after GT4."
"What on earth has happened to my beloved GT."

GT5 appears to be a graphical, and to some extent, a physics remake leaving out the guts of previous GTs. Or the "soul" as I refer to it.

Apparently, the Gen jump to the "PS3" and "online" must have been the gaming equivalent of conquering Quantum Physics. Although I must say other multi platform developers have done it and in less time too.

When you stop to consider what PD could accomplish on the PS2, the PS2!
I'm clueless as to what happened with this game.

Going back to E3 2009 I've had a grave concern ever since this game will never live up to expectation.

My "ace in the hole" or so I reasoned was Kaz would work his usual magic and somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat.

It looks like the magic is gone and along with it, the GT that we have grown to love.

Agreed..imo GT4 did more right than this.. The only thing GT4 was missing was online and damage. If the release time between GT4 & GT5 was 14-16 months, I would not be complaining.

I would only add to this, a refinement of the Aspec point system.

GT4 towers above this game in almost every respect.

if you want to play a driving simulator then play GT5 if you want to play a game where you can swap a twin turbo corvette motor into a chevy aveo and DO A TOP SPEED OF LIKE 240+ then you can play the arcade game Forza3 nuf said

I still got the Yaris you sent me lol.

Yaris development never stopped, I've 12 or so now, in various classes and configurations (RWD, FWD, AWD), some turbo, some NA, some supercharged, some with the 3S-GTE from the Celica. I covered all Yaris bases!

I bought the G27 sigh. I can't go back to the ms wheel. I wish MS would support it.

I wouldn't say that GT4 towers above this, I still think it's the best one yet, but alot of head scratching Decisions keep it from being the killer app it should have been. All my dissapointments have been mentioned here already, no need to repeat.

As for the Forza fanboys, F3 was a disappointment as well. This article sums it up pretty well:

http://classygamer.blogspot.com/2010/02/forza-motorsport-3-what-went-wrong.html

PD is a much more mature developer then T10. I don't appreciate their Gestapo approach they have on their forums, either.

Then you're somewhat blinkered if you think tuning freedom and flexibility is a drawback. Of course, from the standpoint of the car, it actually is a drawback in one respect, it ruins the car, its totally un-useable. But, its fun. Its amusing, its freedom, I CAN do it, so why not. Makes a good drift weapon to be fair.

But heres the rub, no one MAKES me do it, the game doesn't force me to, whereas in GT5, you can't do it. You don't have the freedom to make foolish cars (just as people do in real life, look at the 8x Turbo V8 from Lateral-G) And thats what you people still don't seem to grasp, Forza has some crazy stuff, that borders what is possible, but - its fun. Theres actually quite a hardcore of Forza players that don't tune their cars, they like the purity, but just because the feature is there to go berserk if they so choose, you see that as a bad thing?

GT is NOT more serious. How on earth can you say that and keep a straight face, when you have to buy a car in a certain colour ... to unlock that paint for another car? That's realism is it?

944FTW: Sadly aerodynamics limit it to something around 160/170mph, at which point its so unstable as to be no use. As I said above, its fun to find out though.
