Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

i'd agree that GT5 comes across more of a simulation, while FM3 feels much more accessible. where FM3 is getting the praise from is the polished feel, with all cars being premium, and with a large amount being modible.

I like GT5, but i love FM3, will GT5 be the new king? no chance, will it be a excellent simulator hell yes.

Im dissapointed. Had all GT games except GT5P, and was always going to buy a PS3 when GT5 came out (massive car fan, casual gamer).

The little things bug me like the tickets for new cars ....why??
No qualifying which did at least let you know if your car would be competative (and its no good having a car thats too fast and blitzing the competition!

How can a game thats been so long in the making feel so rushed?

Ill keep playing because there is much to like but it does look poor compared to GT4

GT5 is so far a real mixed bag for me. It has some very good points to be sure, but it also have plenty of issues. Hopefully many of the problems will be addressed by updates.

There is also by one completely subjective but huge problem for me:

Only 1 of my favorite tracks made it to GT5 (nurburgring), all my other favorites appear to have been eliminated.

ZERO of my favorite cars are premium. Zero, not even a single one of my favorites made it to premium status. A handful of cars positioned just below "favorite" status made it, but they just aren't the same.

Those two things alone are a massive disappointment for me, so instead of becoming my primary SIM like GT4 was for many years, GT5 will always be just one of any number of equally important sims.

certainly there are some disappointments all though at the end of the day, GT5 is by far the best GT experience yet...

I am hoping that 5 is something akin to 1 and 3, in that the sequel's i.e 2 + 4 on both ps1 and ps2 were just huge additions to an already awesome game...i'm tipping GT6 dev / prod time will be another 2.5years max...

Plenty of time to get a final ps3 release with all the bells and whistle before end of life cycle / ps4...

that's my 2 cents ;)

I thought GT5 graphics were quite good apart from the "lego" shadows when ever a race started, until i did a doughnut in a Lexus LFA today, and when the smoke goes "over the car" all the outline of the car turns to a lego effect, not very good at all!

After nearly six years of waiting for GT5 I really hate to say this, but for the first time ever, I actually feel like not playing a game of this franchise.

Installed it, played it for 45 minutes and shelved it, permanently or until an update comes out with the features I want. Those are:

- Ability to unlock more cars for arcade mode by levelling up. For example, reaching level 23 in GT-Life will give you access to the Mazda 787B (Premium) on the Arcade Only selection tab.

- Ability to do Premium Only races and Standard Only races, by selecting the type of car wish to drive. Premiums alone look stellar. Standards alone look decent (for some part). The two together... :ouch: just don't fit...

I know I can drift an LMP1 sportscar In Forza 3 using a gamepad and throw it into corners at ridiculous angles yet still keep it on the track.

Good game, great sounds, nice car selection but it's lacking in the physics department.

Thank goodness there is at least one console game in the plethora of options available that puts physics and the actual driving experience as the top priority.

Everything else is on the periphery and can be added/deleted/amended in time.

You say you only played for 45 mins? And you want people to take what you have to say seriously?

I already knew most of the features that were in the game before even playing it because I've been keeping pace with the news in this site. When I actually got the game in my hands there were only a few "make or break" features left to check and 45 minutes was all I needed. I didn't need to play the whole game to see what I was looking for.

I am so loving this thread. Its the most satisfying read I've had in ages ... why? Read on dear friends...

I quite understand the defence of Gran Turismo 5, and the poor PS3 - I really do. If I'd spent the best part of $400 on the console for GT5, I'd not want to admit I was wrong either. I'd defend it, and I'd certainly display the exact kind of bitterness and resent that a large number of people here are showing - of course these people are angry and resentful, they've just been given the run around, by what could be one of the best hype-for-your-cash exercises in gaming history.

Thankfully, I waited (only just though, they nearly got me hooked with their media hype) and now, oh my, I haven't laughed so much in my entire life. No wonder the poor PS fanboys are stinging. Ironic really that the man responsible for such a game has initials like KY, when no amount of KY could possibly eliminate the sting of what has been shoved up peoples chuffs, dressed as the "Real Driving Simulator". Everyone that has played it, knows the faults, some choose to admit them, some choose to ignore them - whatever your persuasion in this area - there is a better way...

Ladies and Gentlemen, the door to the Forza lounge is open, you only have to step through it (and stop being so stubborn, we (Forza players, most of whom are actually ex-GT fanboys anyway) don't all like it for a joke, or because MS said we should - its because its genuinely a better game, with more freedom and tuning options to die for) and sample the joy, its ok, we won't hold it against you. We'll merely be glad that, just like I did years ago when I abandon GT4 and moved to Forza 2, that you'd made the step towards something not perfect certainly (hey, even Forza 3 has its issues) but far superior.

Nobody will force you to put the V12 from the LP640 into your Gallardo, or make your Dodge Viper(s) 4WD, or make you stick various other VW engines into your Mk1 Golf to turn it into the car it always should have been, we won't "force" you no. But, know that should you want to - you "can" do such things, for entertainment, for an experiment, or just for the sheer hell of it. Why? Because in our world, the gamer has freedom, and a huge stack of events (100 hours+) in which to exercise it. Personally, I like the Chevrolet Aveo with RWD and a Corvette LS1 V8 in it. Dangerous as it is.

Come to the dark side, not only do we have cookies, but we have visual tyre flex, fantastically bonkers tuning options, and a paint shop that you can use freely, to genuinely make your cars ... your own.

Nobody used to hate Microsoft, and for that matter, the Xbox more than me. But the time has come to realise, that actually - many millions of people aren't wrong. I was.

The one thing about this game is ridiculous is how AI drivers their cars, anyone that was in charge of developing this section was out of their heads, why why why oponent cars never brakes when you're in front of them???? It makes me feel that they spend £5 for AI development team, SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay at the risk of getting involved in a flame war...

I am (was) dedicated Forza racer (top 20 hotlapper blah, blah) but I bought GT5 and a G27 basically because my Xbox died and I wanted a much better wheel..

So. Am I disappointed?

Well sort of. GT5 is an amazing game trapped inside a shell of total ****.
No point reliving all the arguments, mine are the same as everybody elses (paint, tuning, dodgy standard graphics, senseless licenses, unusable menu system from the 80's with unbearable music and so on) but there's still hope!!

For me it comes down to the online racing experience, and since GT5 got released without it there's still a chance for redemption.
So what makes a great online experience? Something that will keep you coming back for more - well for me:

- Driving experience - Physics basically. I reckon GT5 'feels' better than Forza 3 but it's not as big a gap as some would like to think. None the less GT5 gets this.

- Customization - Fastest car(tune) + fastest driver wins. Forza nails this hands down.

- Public Custom Lobbies - Forza 3 threw this away with Matchmaking. GT5 could really pull this out of the bag. The basic model is already there. Fingers crossed.

So it all hinges on what is finally presented as the online system in GT5. Tuning aside, it has the possibility to be better than Forza if it works and produces good, clean and fun racing (and doesn't fall into the Matchmaking trap) simply because the physics are better. I am a bit concerned by the amount of cheating in the online races so far in terms of corner cutting, say what you like about sticky grass in Forza but you don't get 12 year olds making up 10 seconds in a lap by cutting half the track, but again it's wait and see as there might be an upgraded penalty system in online when it arrives.
A fail in this department however and I'll likely go back to Forza. The single player and the design decisions in GT5 are unbelievably bad, the lack of tuning options is nearly unforgivable and while I can understand that a livery editor doesn't make you go faster I think some of the folks who say 'I'm glad there's no livery' haven't been on the grid in their painstakingly tuned new class beater in their team colours... it's a very, very good feeling.

Here's hoping GT.

lol, hope you've got the two layers of flame retardent clothing under your racing overalls!! I too really enjoy Forza, 3 not as much as 2 mind you. But I wouldn't miss GT5. It has it's problems but it's still a good game. Anyway good luck when the extreme fans get hold of you :)

Ahh, they'll be fine. Just like with me, the first hurdle to cross is getting over the fact that the Xbox is an MS product, everyone wants to hate MS, but the simple fact is, lately you just can't. The 360 is great, and W7 is good too.

The second hurdle then of course is to wind ones neck in, and try Forza 3 on a Fanatec wheel. From then on, its all gravy :)

Although I agree with most of dan0h's post, this really isn't a forza vs GT debate.

I think we can all agree that the actual driving experience is better in GT5. Saying that, I'm still not sure how much is down to using a dfgt vs ms wheel.
It's the rest of it that sucks balls.

Hahaha! Damn you! I'm trying to look on the bright side here! :sly:
(secretly browsing for Xbox prices so I can go back to Forza in case this sorry game does not improve really soon...)

Fanatec all the way. Not looked back since I picked up a set of clubsports either. It was a lot of money at the time but I'm so glad I bought it. Doing me very nicely in GT5 as well.

Thats the exact reasons I did the PWTS and CS Pedal combo, thinking it'd be ideal for GT5, however, given the user comments on the game, well I think you can all see where I'm staning on it. Hope you're enjoying it though Slim.

I'm also annoyed too, I'm sharing the GT5 pain, I WANTED it to be ace. But it clearly just isn't. However, despite over a year of playing I'm still only about 65% done with Forza 3, still racing towards the final "Solid Gold" ;)

Also, the rain effect was enhanced for TGS and what we actually got in the real game left me hugely disappointed. Isn't it illegal?

i knew something was different

guess all we can do is hope for dlc and gt6

I agree that GT5 is better in terms of driving physics but nowhere near a big a gap as some would have you believe. I hadn't played forza 3 in ages before GT5 was released (too busy with F1 2010) and I was waxing lyrical about the GT5 handling model on another forum. When one of the members suggested I go back and try Forza with same car, same track as in GT5. Picked three different cars, fwd rwd and 4wd around Suzuka and I was actually suprised myself how much closer was to GT5 than I thought. I'd still take the GT5 handling model over Forza but if I was forced to use the Forza one I wouldn't be too disappointed.

How are their warranties? I've already heard some horror stories about customer service, so I'd like to know if I'm somewhat covered.
