Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Honestly I didn't have enough time to read through all 12 pages of dissapointed consumers that drank the hype 'kool-aid' and got caught.

Software development has changed in the recent years. More and more of the majority of the civilized world are getting connected to the internet, and more rural areas are joining in as well. Along with a myriad of other factors this means that more and more content is being delivered electronically and you can actually hit more and more of the userbase. What this allows for is a 'push and patch' type of software development. Companies are truncating timelines and shortening their staff benches all in the name of profits. I've seen it first hand. Does the "problem" cause a crash? Is the game still playable? How noticable is it? We'll patch it later.

In part consumers are to blame for this all you can eat buffet of bugs and glitches because people are always looking for the next thing, the next feature and want it. 3D? Headtracking? Premium vs. Standard? There are all things that show that PD is trying to drag their old development code in to the new technological 2010. These are newly focused features that wouldn't have been thought of in 2004 when GT5 development was new and fresh. As consumers we demand more and more and we get it. More 3D! (more bugs), More Features (more code for bugs), More Cars! (more models to create). Of course there is a bit of satire in my little rant. Developers should be creating new and exciting pieces of software but as the consuming public I think we have to realise that this 'push and patch' isn't going to stop until we say it does.

Now lets call GT5 what it is. GT4 Service Pack 1. Some new features, some new bug fixes from the GT4, other features dropped for no apparant reason. It's not a complete reiteration of the game that we truly love.

Why differentiate between Premium and Standard cars?
-Well because we just didn't have time to get all of the modeling done, that's the real answer.

What about B-Spec mode, why can't we speed it up?
-The feature was removed or forgotten as an oversight ... we'll patch that later.

Why can't we change the rims on the standard cars!?
-Well to be honest, that would have just created more code for us to type and test and we just didn't have time to because we wanted to implement 3D, after all everyone loves 3D!

What about damage modeling ... why do we have to gain levels to access it when we can finish the game with B License?
-Well we didn't want to have people running around and smashing up our lovely modeling, so until you can learn to drive properly ...you can't have damage modeling. A little fender bender is okay, but anymore and we'll take your keys away.

Why can't we just have everything accessable in Arcade Mode, it is Arcade Mode after all?
-Our view here at PD is that you must earn your keep to earn your reward. Catch the flies with the chopsticks and you shall have your racetrack ohaiogozaimasu!

Yea it's a voided, long winded rant. I expected more, I wanted more. I think that over the past 6 years PD have had a lot of thoughts, wants, likes and project management meetings to go along with that. What I think they lacked is the presence of a over all project manager/project co-ordinator to make sure that that things that were promised get developed and things that SHOULD be enabled with a patch (ie: 3D, Head Tracking) are left until the appropriate stage of development.

I have much more, but I'll spare you.

Flame Away

No, not true, we don't WANT 3D, I bet you 99% of the people that play GT5 rather had 400 premium cars and the solidness of GT4 than 3D. The only reason 3D is in GT5 is because Sony wanted to release GT5 together with their news 3D tv hype. Hype on hype, let's implement that together in the biggest hype before Xmas.

You're doing the same thing all the global warming aristocrats do: We give you oil but we blame you for using it. Ugh ugh ugh.

As if really anything is really done for the mass, it;s for the Elite.

So I don't know if this has occurred to anyone yet, buuuut, Bluray disks are only able to contain so much information, the disc itself didn't come online ready, and packaging from one of the early sneak peaks showed 2 discs. Not saying they will release another disk, but it's already been confirmed that there will be DLC. Only speculation here, I'm having the same issues with the game as everyone else, and maybe I don't want to believe after 5 years this is all they came up with.

The changes that really matter in GT5 are the physics and the AI.

AI

1. The AI cars no longer break far too early like they used to, so straight away they have fixed the worst thing from previous GT games.

2. There is some strange glue effect when you accelerate into the back of an AI car, but this is a racing sim not bumper cars. You can come off the throttle and steer around them, it's not too hard to adjust to.

3. AI cars bump you off the track. I had this happen in the first 2 days of playing but now that I take more care with my car placement (not wandering about, staying on racing line etc) and stay aware of the cars around me and I dont excessively block far superior cars, I rarely make contact with AI cars and basically never get pushed off or spun around.

4. There are many small improvements to AI, for example cars moving to slip stream you and when you move to avoid this they will move accoss again.

physics

I have never driven any high end sports car or race car IRL so I can only compare GT5 physics to other simulated physics. Breaking is very difficult now without aids and getting the break balance right is critical and then breaking still requires care. Almost all my bad laps and crashes are from mistakes made while breaking. Also now I coast around long bends more to conserve my loaded rear tyre, if I dont it will cook and I will spin or exit bad.

The only other critical areas this game needs to get right are some quality 1 player races to enter and some good online racing. I havent progressed to the hardest category of A spec yet but I have played some online racing and that was ok.

GT5 is the only game I have raced online and I was worried that people driving badly would ruin the races for people racing clean. People running offline too far or causing heavy contact seem to turn to a ghost car for a few moments which is great, that is exactly what I was hoping for. Also people online were racing cleaner and with more skill overall than what I had expected so that was a nice suprise.

Most of the complaints other people have do not concern me. Some of the things people see as flaws I think are nice features. I like starting the races in 7th. Whats the point of 11 AI cars if you never pass any of them? Starting in the middle is even better than starting at the back. You have fast cars coming through from behind you and making a bad start will mean losing positions.

Paint, I think its cool. I like sarching for orange and pink cars to buy for the paint even though it is a little retarded if you think about the process logically. There are a lot of small improvements in GT5, like competing in GT championship without needing to complete every earlier race.

Overall though, I think the extra features/content that are in the game should have been left out if means that less attention is made to the core game. When I heard that Kaz was working on Photo Mode for GT3 I knew that the GT series was never going to be as good as it could be again. What are we going to see in GT6? Suduko mode? Japanese Rock Garden webcams in 3D mode? maybe we can build our own virtual billycarts and compete in a billycart downhill race. After all racing billycarts is more propper racing than nascar is.

I think i will just rebuy GT4 instead. :grumpy:

Don't say that men.. GT5 will improve with future updates..."opefuly" :dopey:

Also this game has 3 times the good stuff than the bad ones...sarcastically:

-no standard car rims.
-poor tunning variety.
-no machine test 400m etc..
-should quialify in all races.
-too short A-spec mode.
-no top gear track stand star up.
-no fast forward option in B-spec.
-too much Photo stuff.
-douchebag A.I. but that's fine to me :D

Ahh well !!! still playing it anyways

I'm not disappointed. I'm too busy driving and enjoying the improvements over GT4 to pick it apart and find faults or get all worked up on the internet about "they promised this and that".

I guess I'm a glass half full type of guy.

Anyway , back to racing for me. Resume complaining ...... now.

Rofl.. You completely missed the satire...

Am I the only one who thinks GT5P is more fun then GT5?

I love spending time tuning the car to meet performance point requirement and racing it online
I love improving my time attacks by microseconds in order to gain a place in the leader-board.

You just don't get that in GT5, at least not yet. I hope we will get that in DLC.

Don't get me wrong, 1000+ cars is great, but gt5p online experience are better.

Some of the complaining just kills me, yes i am dissapointed with certain things. But what do you want for $60? I look at it as one of tho's (put yourself in there shoe's) kinda thing's. Let's be honest here. We don't know how difficult it is to model the car's and work on Physics and Sounds, or how time consuming it is..You know they're people too. They have life's besides working on GT5.

I take the game for what it is, and from what i've seen so far i love it. And it's not like some thing's can't be fixed/added through DLC. As the game title states. It's a DRIVING SIMULATOR, not a tuning simulator, or a Burnout game.

Hopefully we'll get GT6 by 2012, Kaz even said it won't take nearly as long as 5 did soo il gladly wait for that aswell.

If you don't like it, get rid of it and quit complaining.

This summarizes my opinion.

^^^ No, he means there should be more cars popping up at once, and they should stay for longer until sold. I think.

-No full G25 support. No advanced FFB settings. In H-Pattern the car doesn't idle, just drops to 0rpm, very annoying. The brake bar flashed whilst driving (others have same problem so not my G25).

I don't know if anyone caught this, but doesn't the H-pattern require the correct use of the clutch? If you put it in gear at idle and let the clutch out without gas, usually the engine will die. Presumably it's supposed to work like a real manual?

Other than that, reading through this thread scares me a little... I'm glad I haven't spent any money on this and already called waiting for GT6.. We'll see how they do with the patches but I have my doubts.

The priate scene has gotten a rip of GT5, it was 19GB.

Agreed, the SP1 being trophy support.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. As is often written, had I waited 2 years then ok but 6 years. I think Kaz will lose a lot of credibility in the coming months as people take in what GT5 has delivered after such a long wait.

I played eg GT3 and GT4 for ages (over a year), I just cannot see that happening with GT5. And something I noticed last night, I think little details like this are cool; if my friends are playing NFS:HP then under their name is the game and the mode they are playing. In GT5, it is just GT5 not GT5 IA license or GT5 karting experience etc.

I am very disappointed in alot of aspects of the game, though I am also very impressed with alot too!

One thing that really has gutted me is certain cars that have been left out..

EG. MAZDA , they include about 15 different FD rx7s, they include FC rx7, WHERE THE F IS THE ORIGINAL RX7 ?!?!??!?! AND WHAT ABOUT THE R100, THE RX2, RX3, RX4, RX5?!?!??!

I was looking forward to getting my hands on an r100 and whacking a 13b turbo in it.. :( :( :(

AND you are not able to do engine swaps/more detailed mods..?!?!?!

PD , its like you wanted Forza fan boys to have one up on us. And they have more then just one up... they have alot.

Top ten dissapointments

In no particular order

1. Rubber banding - is this NFS? The REAL fake driving simulator.
2. Brain dead slot car AI - they will pit you and plow through you to stay on line.
3. No gear ratio adjustment - (tuning was great in prologue, why mess it up?)
4. Grinding for experience - but hey you get an award for racing the same track 100x. Farming and grinding? What is this WOW?
5. Can't hear sound of your engine over other cars (hard to tell when to shift)
edit: I first had this problem driving against racing cars with a regular car in the hood view. This is not a problem in every race.
6. Various graphical glitches - tearing etc.
7. Horrible headlight modeling (example the Tuscan night challenge) the headlights shine about a 4' radius in front of the car.
8. No brake upgrades. Why?
9. Terrible sound. We've gone from hoover to Dyson.
10. Cockpit view too bouncy. I can't play the faster cars w/o getting a headache. (just my opinion) In real life your eyes naturally compensate so you don't notice when driving on a bumpy road. Forced to choose a different view.

yeah all this "it will be out next month" it will be out next year" then the game sucks "we will patch it" "just wait until gt6" i dont want to wait on gt6 i just bought this game and its no more finished than nukem forever its pathetic.

i will no longer support kaz and his baboons of development team what exactly have they developed like.

a game thats got more bugs than the arabian jungle . yes !
a game thats no more complete than forza 4 . yes
a game all the true fans were expecting to love but actually its a huge let down. yes
theres more bad than good if you ask me

oh look we added rain to 4 tracks and updated the physics to the best of our ability
then make yo u buy a game thats incomplete thanky you for your purchase just wait "we will fix it in gt6 we promise"

if you bought a washing machine that was not developed right it would be back in the comet lorry before it got in the door.

it came out on the 23rd of november

im sitting here thining it april fools day ha you bought it get it up you! is how i feel

GT5 killed my 60GB PS3, was racing online and boom, power off, blinking red light, actually it wasn't the only suspect, but yeah just a coincidence that i was playing GT when it happened, it must be pretty hardware intensive

Good Game but it Feels Half Finished .

I'm at Level 21 Currentley , i've put something like 15 hours a Day into the Game Since Release .

I'm a relative Newbie on GTPlanet , joined here as I remeber it being a Great Place for Information when GT4 Came out i'd browse the Forum for Tips and Tricks .but only signed up when GT5 was near Release .

So Now we have GT5 and yes it feels Half Finished , simply put even though I know there's a Few (very few) More races to Unlock as i level up I can't help but feel Shortchanged by the Content of the Championship Races there Mostly 5 Race Events with 5 Laps , No Tyre Wear ? No Pit Stops ? . The A-Spec Content is very Poor in Comparison to Ealrier Versions of the Game

As mentioned by others What is the Point of the Licence Tests apart from Leveling Up ?

B-Spce Bob and His Adventures , oh yeah its great fun sitting there with a Six Axsis pressing buttons forever during each race

Which brings us nicely onto Leveling Up for Game Progress , the endless Grinding that lays ahead doesn't fill me with unbridled joy more a case of oh well lets go and do the race that pays the most 100/1,000 times....

The Prize System and the Credits , Where the hell do I start on that ? it's a joke , it seems B-Spec Bob does have some use for winning some of the Prize Cars you'll need for Progress in A-Spec...!!!! WTF...!!! I thought that was my Job to win the Required Cars in A-Spec as Prizes to Progress ?

The Future D.L.C Well lets hope the Updates give me the Other Half of the Game That I feel is Missing at the Moment **

Sure the Game has got a Lot of Good things going for it the Physics is amazing the Engine Noise is greatly Improved and the candy items like Smoke and Skidmarks look great , but where is te Immersion that made previous GT Titles such long Playing Games , this feels like at best it'll take 3 Months to get the Majority of wat it has to offer that i'm willing to drive for in Terms of Car content .

Does anyone else look in the Box the Game came in trying to find the Other Disc with the Other Half of the Game , I felt like looking in there

Lastly the Biggest Single thing that really Pisses me Off "Copy Protection on the Game Save"

Previoulsy i've Played GT1 / 2 / 3 / 4

GT6 don't hold your Breath as I doubt if that'll be out before the PS4 Launch so hearing that there working on GT6.........erm hello how about finishing GT5 First

**My Opinion May Change Dependant on Future Non Payment DLC Content**

I am disappointed that my Collector's Edition has not arrived yet :grumpy:
Amazon, you let me down... at least I don't mind waiting a little longer:)

Don't worry man, join the club. I pre-ordered Gran Turismo and I didn't get my copy either. And what makes it worse is my friend didn't even pre-order and he got the game already!

I feel like going to the shop where I pre-ordered, open up a dictionary and read them the definition of pre-order.... 👍

im not disappointed in GT5. Im let down alittle by alot of small niggles but i wouldnt say disappointed.

i havent even played 10 hours yet so maybe with time ill feel differently

I have been a GT fan since GT1, in fact I still have GT1,GT4, GT5p and even composite cables for the PS2 so GT4 looks a little better on the HD TV.

Games I have..
Grid, Dirt 2, f1 2010, NFS, GT5p, midnight club, burnout paradise

I really love the way the driving feels (I use DFP) So I can quite happily just drive around Nordschleife for hours enjoying the driving and driving online with my mates has been excellent. So I am still playing it (I got it on the 23rd) and will undoubtedly continue to play it online.

Now for the problems...

The standard vs premium debate, and the no rims for standard stuff doesn't bother me at all but it would be nice to be able to buy standard cars from dealerships as well.

However many aspects of the game are disappointing.

Damage modelling: The first rule of race club is don't crash your car. Anyone can drive a car, the skill in racing is being the fastest without destroying yourself or your vehicle. In real life, damage occurs much more frequently at lower formula where drivers are less skilled or experienced and the equipment costs less.

To really deserve the tag 'The real Driving Simulator' it also has to be a real crash simulator. Penalty systems are no compensation for 'hit wall hard' = lose race, but this has always been a problem in GT. I hoped it would finally be addressed - disappointing.

Someone in an earlier post mentioned core values. These are for me the core values of a racing game from most important to least

Good Driving Feel (pyhsics) - check (except damage, which is at least 1/2 the physics equation)
Good Single player racing - fail, it is too hard to create a competetive race, and AI is still GT AI (if slightly improved.)
Car Tuning - poor, too few can be aero modified and gears/brakes possibly - bugged?
Environment (weather, time) - Good but inconsistent.
Choice of Cars - good, but could be better
Choice of circuits - OK but could be much better
Events to race in - poor there are just too few a-spec events
Custom Events - ability to specifically or randomly create events
Custom Courses - simple but not bad.
Good replay controls - poor, but lack of FW,RW and cludgy car switching - bad.

Nice Additions
Car Customisation - poor, a few RMs, crappy paint system.

The list above is for me the most critical elements that I want from a driving game and how well GT5 has fulfilled them for me.

As you can see there's a lot of room for improvement. Maybe if they hadn't spent time on...

Photo Mode
Photo Travel
B-Spec
3d mode

We would have got the game we really wanted. I think also far too much resources were spent on the premium models. I don't care if I can see the stitching in the incredibly realistic premium dash, because I am looking at the road. It is the road & what's on it that is priority 1

Finally there are the completely illogical choices and artificial constraints made around the game design.

Cars limited by level? Credit is already a limiting factor!
Prize cars only once? A prize is a prize, how would Alonso, Schumacher, Senna, Prost etc.. feel if they were told, sorry the WDC rewards can only be won once.
most (ie Standard) cars only available on a random basis Artificially limiting your event choices
Artificial contraints on things like race starts Why not have the same rolling, or grid start options for all races?

Am I still playing it? oh Yes - but I'm not convinced of the longevity of the single player mode
Am I glad I have it yes, driving is enjoyable and especially online.
Would I take it back You would have to prise it from my cold dead hands
Would I pre-order GT6. Nope

I would like to see several polls on this site that Kaz & PD could look at for feedback...

Do you have a 3d TV?
What elements of the game are most important to you?
What elements of the game are most irritating
etc... etc...

In summary: Enjoyable, but deeply flawed and yes, disappointing.

Anyway back to driving! :sly:

When i bought my Audi i could choose from 12 diffrent colors to paint it with. If i payed some extras i could even make my own color and choose from even more diffrent ones, which is called Audi exclusive. I didnt have to buy another car with that color i wanted first just to be able to paint my new one with it.

IF i wanted to choose the seat color diffrent from the base interiour color i could do that too.

I could buy my car new and didnt have to buy it from a used car dealer.

I could change the rims and the rim size and choose if i wanted Polished, highpolished, matte black etc.

IF i want to upgrade my car with a MTM supercharger i can do that, i can also put MTM badges on if i upgrade my car too show off my modifications.

I could also equip my car with diffrent a S line body kit but i didnt want to. I can also now after i bought it fit the S line kit or any other aftermarket parts if i wanted to.

When i go out for a drive every car is looking as detailed as mine. Porches, Nissans, Fords, no car is "less" detailed than mine.

I love my Audi.

When i bought my Mazda, i couldnt choose color or interiour. I couldnt decide which rims i wanted the car to have when i just got it. I couldnt decide the body kit or anything.

This is because it was used when i bought it. I can however (once again) fit anything to it now after i got the car and i have done that. I changed rims but kept the rest as how it was when i first got it. My car got some stickers on it saying where it has been tuned and what aftermarket parts are in it.

This car is also detailed as any other car when i go out for a drive in it.

Both cars have an amazing interious that i really enjoy being in when i go for a drive. Ok honestly the Mazda isnt that great, but it feels...sporty. =P

This is real life, this is no video game.

For a GAME label itself as a DRIVING SIMULATOR i could understand that all these kind of customization features are missing. I might be wrong but i think this game has the driving in focus right? Kinda like Grid but on a whole another level of course.

So where am i going with this post then? Well... As a car enthusiast this game is a big big dissapointment. As a driving simulator it isnt.

Unfortunally for GT5 theres other games that corporate both customization and driving experience which i think i prefer most of the time. And some other times i enjoy playing arcad style rally racer Dirt 2.

Was it worth the wait? I dont think so...i had expected a huge leap forward on the customization department and of the LACK of game info the whole time + the million delays had me really thinking that PD would have that included.

I love PD, i love PS3, i love Japan, i bought the PS3 because it is from Japan. Yepp, im a patriot. So it really hurts that i know that theres a other game out there thats done a lot of things better than GT5. (Not all, but still)

Im not fanboy at any kind, im 27 years old and i have a life outside gaming and i own two cars so PLEASE DO NOT start with me. (Having the bad habit of attracting little ignorant kids with my posts) And dont just comment this post by saying "Go and play Forza then &%#&&&&&¤/!! Have some manners and some good arguments or i will ignore.
