Is anyone else disappointed with GT5?

Oh and if the answer to the game having rubbish AI/racing is to 'go play online', then that doesn't say much for the whole game.

Exactly, and besides online opponents are even worse than the AI opponents! I love cars which is why I play GT5 (albeit not very much anymore) but I also love racing, which is why I also play F1 2010 and other games.

No one are dissapointed with GT5 if they like racing games , this is best game ever and stop whining and trolling OMG!!!

I would have loved it if GT5 did racing well, but sadly it doesn't. The game doesn't even have qualifying, how can you claim that it's a good racing game?

I'd say it's about as about as good as your grammar...

Gran Turismo should be handed over to other developer perhaps?:sly:

Turn 10 perhaps... :nervous:

They already have their Forza...

giving GT to them would eliminate the competition...

now that I've thought about that idea (the handing over of GT)....I'm beginning to seriously like it....

for GT remaining under PD or Kaz...the game will be always be stagnant as before and now....

^ Haha.

Yeah ok so maybe we need to keep Forza for the competition and let someone else have a crack at it.

All I know is I don't like the direction PD are heading, time for some fresh ideas

No other racing company can make a game that satisfies me as much as Polyphony Digital. If Gran Turismo ever ceases to be, or PD, I might just give up on new racers entirely. Sorry, but those other developers lack something.

I'm a big fan of the series, but GT5 really has me thinking along those lines.
I think that PD alone isn't quite a large enough shop to put out games of this size with any regularity, and maybe some assets should be farmed out. Perhaps having Studio Liverpool (formerly Psygnosis) jump in and help model some cars and tracks. They have a helluva history when it comes to racing games, and are geographically located in a spot where they have access to a lot of cars not in the game (including american imports and aussie rebrands).

I wouldn't really mind them taking over the whole UI either. I doubt they could do anything to harm it, since GT games have never really been designed to be easy to get around in.

ENGINE SOUNDS GODAMNIT! This is my only major bummer with the game. Everything else is minor. I just dont understand why they can't get it right. It spoils the ambience, immersion, whatever you want to call it.

Its a simulation, you need to get this right. Need for Speed, Forza, PGR4, PC sims, EVERYBODY fugured how to do it well 4-5 YEARS AGO!

Come on Kaz! DO IT!

I would have said exactly the same thing until a couple of weeks ago when my desire to play GT5 began to fade. I would never have even considered buying Shift or Forza or any other racing game but now I realise that being closed minded about it gets you nowhere.

I'm having more fun with F1 2010 at the moment than I ever did with GT5 so I can't wait for F1 2011 and who knows, I might even fork out for Shift 2 and NASCAR 2011.

I've never been disappointed with a GT game before this one. Sure, there were things in previous versions that I thought "It would have cool if they had done X or Y" but this one just leaves me scratching my head at all the obvious neglect and misdirection. To work on a game for so long and produce a product like this is inexcusable for THE marquis first party title for a system.:banghead:

You're acting like the AI in this game is normal but GT5 is the only racing game with AI this bad that I know of.
Yes, I find it's very normal for people to complain about the AI in racing games own forum. These complaints are also very common in strategy games as well. I find it interesting that someone here even wrote Ferrari Challenge had a good AI yet I found it's AI was very bad (even ISR mention had bad the AI was)
One of the biggest complaint of F1 2010 (in CM forum) was the AI was too slow until someone came out with a AI mod for the PC.

I happen to have several other racing games. In fact, I've even played them! Imagine that. ;)

I've raced in Forza 2 for 10 months or so, Toca 3 for three, a couple of months in the GTRs, mostly Evo, gave Enthusia a shot, enjoyed Live For Speed for a month...

It's not being closed minded. It's finding something magic in a developer that doesn't exist in the others. It's nice that you're having a blast in F1 2010, but racing in nothing but blistering fast cars where decision windows were a tenth of a second wide all the time would give me a headache. I have enough headaches.

Plus, I want variety. I want those 1000 cars. F1 2010 has... what, five basic models? GTR2 40? How many classes of racing? How many Miatas, Supras, Skylines and BMWs? Woops...

Unfortunately, the megahype on the Shift 2 website is nauseatingly like both Shift 1 and Dan Greenawalt. And it doesn't help that Shift 2 looks like Shift with slightly better graphics. Or perhaps worse, I'm not too thrilled with the car images.

Sorry, but Gran Turismo spoiled me. And I like being spoiled. ;)

^ I wasn't calling you closed minded, more myself. I guess it comes down to what you want from a racing game. Personally, I like to be able to pick up and play for half an hour and enjoy myself, but at the same time I want the experience to be as realistic as possible. That is why I never bought Shift because I only had to play the demo for 5 minutes to realise it was just another arcade-oriented NFS game.

For me it sucks because I am a perfectionist and the little things that were done poorly in GT5 drive me nuts. For example, the physics model is brilliant and the cars look beautiful, but then when I try to race them I am reminded how bad the AI is.

Then I decide to tune cars and I discover that when fitted with sports exhaust, the Holden Monaro and Ferrari F40 sounds exactly the same! I honestly tried to enjoy the game as a whole but such blinding oversights drove me insane, so now the only thing I do is drive stock, unmodified cars around the Nordschleife.

It makes you wonder if anybody from PD actually played the game once they finished it, or whether they just slapped it together and released it. As I said, some aspects of the game are brilliant in isolation, but brought together they are an absolute mess

I got what I expected, great game, few disappointments however it seems like PD is working on fixing most of my gripes. even if they don't. I still got what I wanted "Gran Turismo". I see Kaz's vision, Gran Turismo is not for most, even though attempts are always made to appeal to a larger audience, GT is about something different & if you don't know what I'm talking about then it's not for you. While your purchase and use of the game are welcome. We who see the vision understand why it took the time it has and why it is the way it is ( and we love it) and we see it's potential to only get better, but would still be satisfied if unchanged.

This series has always had it's Haters, complainers, and dumb dumb know nothings who think they know it all pointing out the dumbest things and are never satisfied. The more of them there are continuously complaining and bitching the better the game is, especially since most of them are still playing/talking or thinking about Gran Turismo despite all the crying...

If your worried about engine sounds in the game, your not in it for the racing or the competition. You can buy a cd/mp3 filled with all your favorite car sounds if you want improved sounds. To say that everything else is minor is accepting what PD has put forth so far. I will take in game saves over car sounds along with alot of other missing things. Things that are not there at all is way more important. Sound is minor and can be tweaked. Missing features and the like, can't be tweaked because it not even available. The disappointments in the game should be due to the lack of content IMO.

Gripes/complaints=fixable tweaking
Missing information/features=disappointment, needs overhauling.

I'd say it's the quality of what's there that is the biggest problem. A lot of the new content in GT5 was done very poorly (i.e. NASCAR, Top Gear etc.). They would have been better off leaving a lot of that stuff out and focusing on the core aspects of the game such as AI, sound, A-Spec and levelling etc.

You can add content all you like but it doesn't hide the fact that there are fundamental flaws in the game's design

 Oh my god...

Thanks for the chuckles 👍

The fact that you cant change wheels on standards is bugging me. I know its a ridiculous details but its one too many imo. Honestly, i'm just sick of developers who are using less details, depth over graphics. EA, Rockstar, Ubi and now PD have joined the band.

So far i am disappointed but i'm hopeful for substantiate updates in the future.

Trading GT5 this morning, PD wont ever get another penny from me. The logic that led to some of the decisions behind this game baffle me. The straw that broke the camels back was the seasonals. PD fronted up and said they would replace them every week and what do we find this morning ??, one new event and the ones that are two weeks old extended for another two weeks. Liars, and lazy ones to boot.

A-Spec doesnt have enough events, I was up to the Extreme Level about a week after release. That is what I bought the game for, not B-Spec or online. Its like a sick PS3 version of Endurance where they take perverse fun in making you repeat the same races over and over to get to the same level. My favourite PS3 game is Uncharted 2 but I dont have to play levels 1-20 numerous times to get to 21. And any game that has an 8GB install and has to load between every menu is ridiculous, as is five button pushes to put one part on your car. And I have a life that doesnt include sitting at a PS3 for 24 hours to win a race that gives me viertually no reward. What is the point of that ??, Dont get me wrong there is a lot I like about the game such as the 'ring and the weather effects but it plays like a PS2 game. For petes sake the events look like they have been copied over. PD had a chance to be innovative and they blew it, they not only failed to improve on GT4 they took away the addictiveness, fun and rewards of the previous GT games. I am very sad about that, this game was the one I was waiting for.

Now I know the GT5 lovers will rant on a bit and thats fine, I have put my money where my mouth is and got it back. All but four quid of it. But watching you lot try to justify this second rate excuse for a game is hilarious, your like the guy in the club trying to convince his mates that his new girlfriend is actually a stunner and doesnt in fact put her belt on with a boomerang and has a face like someone set it on fire and put it out with an icepick. Fill your boots if that makes you happy. But the last laugh will be on you if they release DLC for this game. Anyone who buys it needs their head seriously looking at. GT3 and GT4 survived without it and held peoples attention for years .. and still do. Is anyone seriously going to be here in four years doing the same races for the 8,794th time ??

Ah well. I had better go and load up my new copy of Killzone 3. Toodles GT5, it was short, sweet and crap.

Well, then I stand corrected. But... it sure reads the other way... :D

I guess it comes down to what you want from a racing game. I suppose I can see that. After all, the truck tire sounds in Forza nauseated me after a while. But then again, people complain about "vacuum cleaner" sounds in GT5, and... well, my real life Supra and a relative's Sentra Spec V kind of sound like vacuum cleaners.

I dunno, my fish fry is with other aspects of GT5 that are pretty integral to the game, like the XP system and that silly paint chip thing. I think the sounds are great, and I deal with the bots, because both have been greatly improved. And as I say, there just isn't another racer for me. I've played much of them, and I don't expect any huge racing revelations to come from other developers. I expect more of the same. rFactor 2 might be cool, but that remains to be seen. A handful of race cars... been there, done that, and like I say, I want my thousand cars.

GT5 can be a very different game in a few months, but we'll have to see on that. I sincerely doubt sounds will change much at all, but that's really pretty low on the gripe meter for most. The bots are another matter, but what seems to be way high on most people's radar is the credit system, more A-Spec events, more tracks, more Premiums, more Race Mod cars, XP, paint, rims - man, it's always those wheels that keep getting mentioned.

I have no doubt that changes are coming though, because we pretty much were the driving force in slapping the game out of PD's hands last November. And in a worldwide release for once, give or take a day! But this meant we got what we got. Some will never understand this - see above. The rest of us will wait patiently for what The Kaz has cooking because... well, we prefer this banquet. Not to say that others aren't tasty too, and variety is life spicy and all, but I prefer to get my variety from other sources than racing. Frankly, I'm with GrimSinn, and if that makes you lot chortle, laugh it up. But I'm not alone, and changes are coming, as long as the world holds together.

Like I say, with all things GT, we'll see. ;)

watching you lot try to justify this second rate excuse for a game is hilarious... Toodles GT5, it was short, sweet and crap.
Later. Well, okay, never.

*will be waiting to see if this is yet again another broken promise*

Toodles nobody cares if you guys stop playing GT and never play again. I don't understand why you guys that are so upset with GT keep on crying about it, just play something else if GT is so badly done. Why you still talking about GT?

The fact you won't shut up about it says you need help moving on, like the girl who got dumped but doesn't get it. Go find a "better game" that delivers what you want to a T, lol, good luck with that...

I'm upset that Mafia 2 doesn't have much extra content outside the story. The game was still great though, no need to cry about it, even though I've been waiting on Mafia 2 longer then GT5. However some people just love to bitch about everything.

Oh yeah don't let the door hit your behind on the way out looking for another game even close to GT5, if you find it go to a forum for the game and give it you're praise, we still don't care, lol.

It can be said louder but not clearer...👍

Best "Driving" game...

I guess that's much of the problem right there.

Making a game for the driving experience is cool and all, but a game is a game. It's never going to give someone the same joy of driving as he'd get inr eal life, so it kinda has to offer more than just a good 'driving experience' (if you can call it that) to keep people attention for longer periods of time...
