is gt4 as good as you expected?

we all know that granturismo is the best racing game ever made on the market.
but personaly i expected more from polyphony digital. first, the pyshics in gt3 was almost perfect. I am talking for both racing and drifting. when gt 4 wasn't already released I looked for some information on what gt4 would feature. First there was the driver view that would take the realism even further, than they said the physics were much better and the online option was something big too. i still think gt4 is a great game but sometimes i put gt 3 in my playstation instead of gt4. i just wanna know your feedback about the game, now that it's been released for a few months
ps: thanks to polyphony for giving us 721 cars

i think g4 is slightly better then gt3 imo, yet gt3 is amazing in its own right, yet im still not satisifed with gt4 i meen come on 5AI cars its just not enugh for a challenge, and no damage etc etc etc but these thngs can hopefully be resolved in gt5 but that will just have to be seen i suppose.....................

I think my problem lies with the long races (10 or more laps). I used to enjoy GT2 and GT3 up to the point of the long races. Then I just lost interest. Same with GT4, only playing it for the WRS every week ...

I think to have 1000 Skylines (instead of 20 totally different Nissans) and races that just differ with the amount of laps are really killing the game for me.

Rather have shorter races with more cars and the age old problem ... better AI !!! That will improve the game 10 fold, instead of more bloody polygons on every car !

Just look at FIA-GTR on pc for realistic AI ...

No GT4 wasn't as good as I expected, and there's a hell of a lot of people here who expected it to be better than what I was expecting. I was impressed at first and overwelmed by the ammount of content but I lost interest in the races and while theres still cars in the game I want theres no point in just b-speccing and getting them because I still won't use them. I only switched GT4 on once in the last two weeks, that once was only to help someone with settings for a car.

I've grown fond of the longer races...fuel has made it a little more interesting...and also the relation with the g-force meter and tire wear. In GT3 long races made me ill, now, I cannot wait for the 10+ lappers !

GT4 isn't as good as I expected. The driving aspect is, the racing aspect isn't. The entire structure (or lack of) of the game isn't very good either.

Yes, I actually think 100's of 2 lap races are pointless now. I rather see 10 lap races. I don't always feel like driving 60 laps, but 10 lap races are interesting enough, yet don't take ages (except on Nürburgring).

That's one reason why I like to race on Nür, 2 laps on that course are equal to 10 on another.

Here's a review of GTR on the Blackhole Motorsports web site. Its enough to make a frustrated GT4 player want to sit down and have a good cry:

GTR FIA GT Racing Game (PC)

Features:
- Sounds recorded from actual race cars
- Car physics based on actual race car telemetry data
- Cockpit design like actual car models
- Original FIA GT Series cars and courses
- Real racing teams featuring more than 70 race cars, including the Porsche 996, Viper GTS-R, BMW Z3 M, and Ferrari 550 Maranello

If you have any interest in racing games, and you own a PC, then this is the game for you.

Two words: Incredibly Detailed. You can customize nearly every aspect of the game. For example, want to drive in the cockpit view but can't see over the dashboard? No problem - use the hotkeys to adjust the drivers seat. You can even tell the game to add driver head movement so you can actually look through a turn the way real drivers do.

You can adjust every part of the car to make it handle exactly how you want it to handle. The graphics are fantastic. You can adjust so many graphic settings that it should run on most computers. The car detials are exact, though most of the race car sponsors are unfamiliar to me. The cars have different paint schemes and customizations. Even the cockpits are exact replicas of the real sports cars.

The gameplay is near perfect. You can modify the game to make it as hard as you want it to be. The cars all exhibit real physics with down forces and tire wear just to name a few. The game gives you three modes to play, from Arcade mode to Simulation.

Remember, this game is designed as a simulator, so the game has a steep learning curve. I recommend a good two analog stick game pad to get the most out the game. And practice changing the setting to make the game comfortable to play. Overall, the game is fun and deep, with excellent graphics and sound. What more could you want in your race car driving simulation?

Update: For a game with so many settings, you can't adjust the number of laps in the arcade mode. Seems like they should have added that. Also, the game is very hard. I have spent most of my time playing in Arcade mode. Just be prepared to practice.

PD and Kazunori Yamauchi will never give us something like this, no matter how much processing power is available for them to work with. The introduction of the PS3 is not going to change their mindset about what their customers are looking for.

The mighty PS3 will make it possible to create a program that is customizable to everybody's taste, but Kaz thinks his GT customer base doesn't want something like GTR, so we're not going to get it.

If you compare GT4 to all the other racing games on the market it still is on top by a longshot..i think we should be happy for what we have.. its pretty realistic to me

i bought GTR...but then i stopped playing it after a day...

the best racing game ever is live for speed. mostly because it gets the most important thing right: the racing. close combat, wheel to wheel, exciting online racing. GTR will never deliver that with its crappy netcode and average AI.

GT4 is in a different area...its a car collecting and driving simulator...i just buy cars, tune them and drive them on le mans, the ring or amalfi and assisi.

To me GT4 is the best racing game ever. The graphics and awesome real life handling is just exquizit. It would hard for me to say that there is another racing game better than GT3 and GT4 cuz both games are awesome. I love the 240mph speedsometer, the g meter and the gas usuage. A thing i have noticed, have u ever ran ur car at the las vegas drag strip? Well, the cars don't look that good in that track. Your car reflects too much of it's surroundings and makes it look as if it were Need for Speed Underground. Anyone here agree. If you havn't noticed try it...

But over all i just love the game and i play prolly more than anyone else on this site maybe in the world.

No online
No Time cycle (day to night in a race)
No weather
AI plays like a nascar game
No damage
To many Japanese cars
Of couse no Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari
No cockpit view

other than that though i would say its about a 7.5 out of 10 and the reason i gave it that was because it call's itself the MOST realistic driving sim, but the thing is 5 out of 8 things that i mentioned above go to the reality factor of it.

I figured GT4 would be better than it is. It`s fun, but just not as good as expected considering how long it took to get here. Somehow it seems the GT series has gone downhill since GT2, IMO. GT2 is still my favorite in spite of the PS1 graphics.

GT4's fun, but once you finish the extreme races and you only have manufacturer races left, it gets boring, and now I'm probably going to buy an Xbox and play Forza. I originally thought when I got the game that it was excellent, especially with the DFP. But now, I've gotten to the point where I don't play that often anymore. But it's still fun when I play it.

That is true juiced. There are some things in the game that i would like for them to have but they dont. Yet when I play it still seems like the game is getting better. For now there is no other racing game i believe overall that is better than GT4 I wouldn't mind to have the car horn enabled for a extra addon to GT4. The weather change of what you said is something i never thought of in which would make the game much more realistic. I can imagine doing the 24 Hr race in Nurburgring and the sun going down and racing there at night. I would just love that, it must be a scary track to race in at night. Watch out for Sasquach!! :scared: :scared:

The damage part would be really awesome but how much would the car damage? To the point where it breakes down? Cuz if it does that would be fun yet very hard to do.

Greatest game EVER!

You guys are just expecting the impossible. Face it, someone will always find something that they don't like about it. Nothing wrong with that, every human being is different. Heck, even I have a few irritations. But I forget about all those small imperfections when I play the game. And GT4 deffinitly stands out from the crowd when you compare it to other games!

Fact of the matter is that the makers of GT4 did what they could to make it appealing to as many people as they could. Basically 90% of the things that people complain about have a reasonable explanation.

I also expected a bit more from this game, but i wiil tell you this, i am not regreting a bit, for buying PS2 just because of this game..
I mean just for the amount of the cars, and the Nurburgring, it's worth of buying, but i don't know why so many of you are angry because the RACING is bad, it says on the box, it's a DRIVING SIMULATOR!
But there are so many flaws, that you can't forgive PD..
I mean, driving powerful cars, and gasing it to the floor, and wheels don't spin, a button for reverse!, instead for downshifting to reverse, and then gas to go backwards... ; All tuners provide you with same tuning accessories, Handbrake is just not functional, etc, etc.. i can't get to my head, how they could release the final product with this "minor" flaws, that just ruines the game QUITE a bit, not to mention the AI.. ten years, they can't get it right, ok, i know that PS2 isn't that powerfull for good AI, but c'mon, only to avoid me when i am on the way....
BUT, still for power laping the circuits in 750 cars, you MUST be satisfied..!

-I mean, driving powerful cars, and gasing it to the floor, and wheels don't spin

That is what the TCS & ASM are for, they stop the wheels from spinning. Just switch off the driving aids.

GT4 is not the best driving sim ever, but it's currently the best on the PS2.

What will be really interesting, though, is ToCA3. It stands the chance of blowing GT4's doors off, doing all that they plan for it to be capable of doing (improved physics, GREAT sound, 10 on-line, a better on-line tracking system, damage engine, GREAT graphics, a head-tracking system, etc.), all on this old console! The PS2's best kept secret. 👍

As my title indicates, I am most dissatisfied with GT4's quality. The game is no more than a good or late beta. It is full of holes, weird physics and bugs (and more are found each week), the AI is still childishly poor, and content is missing. It's an unfinished product and I wish more of you would speak out about this aspect. Pray that the Greatest Hits version fixes all of these things!

I love this game, but, come on PD, get real!

Cheers,

MasterGT

Of course i switched them off, but still they don't spin as much as they should in 1st gear..

Check your tires. Good tires are about the best upgrade that you can make to your car in GT4 (laptime wise). The difference in grip is huge between stock tires and racing tires, so if you have racing tires then you'll obviously get less wheel spin.

I always drive with sports medium on good cars, 300-800 hp..
Are u suggesting that i should use N's on 300> hp cars..??

I expected better AI, some weather changes and a better organized and accessable garage.

But I'm a happy and quite satisfied driver

Deffinitly not, but you could, if you want wheel spin :). I was just thinking of things that might help with your problem.

Although 450 - 800 HP does give plenty of rubber burning action in my book. Especially when using normal tires.

I will try my 800 hp skyline with normal tires.. :scared:

GTR may be great, but it carries a nasty little payload.

http://virtualracersedge.com/ (scroll to the bottom entry. Plenty of stuff on Google confirms this, as does my own experience. I can't read CD's I burn on two different burners now on the system that was infected by it. The disks work find on every other system. Note: The damage is permanent. The drivers were uninstalled long ago.)

If you value your PC's stability, you won't touch GTR, or any other Starforce "protected" title.
