I'm guessing that GT4 will have two discs simply because if they are going to have the 1700+ cars announced in another thread they won't be able to fit everything into the 7GB provided by one of the DVDs.

ya, but they will have to put the 1700+ cars in both discs so you can use them in both arcade and simulation discs.

i remember reading some thing about this in another forum

The car models will fit onto the disks no problem, PD are using a diferent method to create the cars than in GT3, they are compressed in a different way and take up less space, also thay don't take as long to model.

I've heard a rumoured 2000 cars, but were best sticking with the 500+ so none of us get exited over nothing.

I believe the benefit of their new method had much more to do with the time it takes to create a car model than with the memory that model requires. I think it will need two disks.

this crap has been going on sence june, THERE WILL BE "AROUND 500 CARS"- Polyphony. no 2000 or 1700. so dont get your hopes up. Not that 500 is a bad number, Remember thats more than any GT so far.

How the hell did you mistake me for a female?

You called someone "sweetheart." The gentleman asked you not to call him that unless you were a girl. You called him "sweetheart" again.

So, you are not female? I think I know what that means, then.

:D

Plus, I had a crush on this chick in my fifth grade class, and her name was Dori. No, before you ask smarty pants, I don't have a crush on you!

Well GT2 was in the 500's I believe. But you're right. I have 120 cars in GT3 and I've been playing for 2 years or more. 500 cars is plenty.

Allright, hit the brakes and stop for the light.

Now, let's get back to the topic, children.

The "500-cars" is what the more official sources are saying. Every damn car in the universe isn't going to be there, so don't count on 50 F1 cars, 30 Ferraris, and 20 Porsches.

Okay....well, the light's turning yellow, so I gotta go.

A girl named dori??
better change my name LOL! Wonder where her parents got that name, but it's all good cuz I'm a boy named Trent Long.
I think that they will have 2 discs just due to the amount of new content compared to GT3.Are there any other PS2 games that have 2 discs?

double sided, double layered dvd's ought to be plenty enough.

No double sided, double layered or double whatever DVD discs for PS2. Only game that was ever released as double-layered disc was Xenosaga 2 in Japan, but Sony then qiut that policy because of unsufficient protection of second layer - due to trumendous possibility of damaging of the second layer just because of smallest scratches on the first layer, the policy of double-layerd games was discarded.

And as for GT4, I pressume that game will be relased on two DVD's and maybe even on three in the first few months of sales - some nice documentary DVD could be in exclusively. I also guess that Japanese market will get extra DVD in the start of sale.

Yes but how exactly could you have certain cars and tracks seperated by having 2 discs, it couldn't work really. So if you buy a certain car its gonna say please insert disc 2, how annoying would that be?

I really don't see the need for two disks, let's go over GT2: 600 odd cars, fitting on 2cds, right?
a cd is around 700 meg, just for convenience sake, so even with double the data necessary for each car, you get 2800 meg (even though I realise that the cars were replicated on both discs, so you could argue 1400 meg)

even with a gig of movies, and another 2 gig of just tracks, or whatever you're really having trouble reaching 7 gig.

The only way I could figure 2 discs, is if they only half filled each disc.

You have to factor in the fact that the cars are nowhere near the file size they were in GT2. The models and textures are huge in comparison.

GT3 DVD has an 3,3 GB of data. Music tracks are taking like 1,5 GB itself. Rest is the game.

One layer of DVD does not have pure 4,7 GB. With lead-in and lead-out writing (the same is with mastering process which is used in game production), the data-size of one layer DVD is 4,1 GB.

Sony made a DVD that could hold 23 GB, so hopefully we can get them for the PS3 - hey, it's only about 3 years away!
Paddy.

I had heard a while back that the reason that there were not more courses was due to storage limitations... Could be wrong though. If there were two disks, I think that the cars would not be seperated, the game modes would. Like in GT2, there would be a simulation disk, and an arcade disk. This would make more sense because of the Network and local machine parts of "Arcade". Would'nt it?

Yes but wouldn't the car models and tracks take up the majority of space the races and race series are basically just the information about car restrictions, number of laps, what tracks, oponents etc which I assume wouldn't take up nearly as much room as the actual models and tracks?
