Is GT5 Over

As someone who plays both I have to say that apart from Spa, the competitor has dealt the whole DLC thing far better than PD have, and in terms of communication are exactly who PD and Sony should be learning from.

With GT5 we never know what coming and when, the Porsche pack with FM4 has been communicated well in advance and now has a two car a day reveal. This is what PD need to start doing if not for GT5 then for GT6.

I agree with you, FM4 is at this point the more compelling game for me. GT5 is collecting dust because they are offering nothing new, the ocd has been old to me for months, I too love SPA but where is the followup?

I honestly don't see GT5 dying any time soon, PD made a lot of cash from the DLC, they just need more time maybe, but the improvements will keep on coming

I knew it would get somebody. Congratulations lebes, you have not seen one of the greatest movies off all time. Watch Animal House and report back later.

I figured I was missing something, no one is that stupid

Are we talking about the same PD here?

PD has never been good at communicating to or with the fan-base at all, while things have got a bit better for GT5 its still a long way from what could be called good.

Personally I think we will get the content from the GTA (track and some themed cars) and that's likely to be it. If we do get more content after that I would personally like it to be more in the vein of Spa and not Route X.

Oh and just because the DLC ends doesn't mean the game is 'over', that point will come on pretty much and individual basis for each player, as an example GT3 and Enthusia are still not over for me.

Scaff

I personally think Husky was being sarcastic, but then again that's just my American brain thinking. *chuckles*

Anyway back on this useless topic... I don't think this game is over. We might get 2 to 4 more DLC's for cars and 1 to 3 more track DLC's... then it might be time for PD to fully move onto GT6 and/or GT Academy 2013. Then again that's just my useless, crappy opinion. Not that it really matters here. The only opinion that really matters here are the moderators since well.... you know... they run this place. 💡

It's been several months since we've seen our last DLC. The competition (if you want to call it that) is blossoming with new cars regularly. Us fans hold on to hopes of news by checking daily for something, but theres nothing time and time again. Is Kaz and his team focusing there energy on the next generation of the series? Is the game dead?

I think dead is the wrong word to use. The game isn't dead just because PD isn't updating it anymore. They have to stop sometime. Gran Turismo 4's community lasted for years, and that never got any updates.

So the real question is, at this point in time, where is the GT5 community? How many people are still playing? This is a pretty tough question to answer really. The online doesn't seem nearly as active as it was around launch of course, but all signs do still point to it having a active, healthy sized playerbase.

Don't worry buddy, don't sell yourself short, everyone's useless crappy opinion is worth reading lol you'll might find some people think they are superior than you and smarter, but at the end of the day, they still read your comment :) and don't be afraid of the mods, they're normal people just like us! ;)

On topic. To me, a game isn't dead until they pull the plugs on its servers and even then, its up to the community to decide. We still have the ability to race in public and private rooms with others, we have highly active forums like GTP ;), so its far from dead. We can see Prologue officially died, when they stopped online support (patches, connectivity, etc.).

People might feel like the game is dead, BUT I think its because PD keeping us in the dark most of the time. These guys are into so many different things right now that we have no idea whats priority for them right now, well, except for GTAcademy. This is why I fully agree with some people here that say they want more communication from PD. Its good to know what's happening once in a while, just some old fashioned re-assurance!

For me, yes. The only thing that would bring me back is a large chunk of new single player content. But that isn't likely.

GT5 is not dead. Online racing will keep it alive for a long time, or as long as PD and Sony continue to dedicate server capacity to supporting the online racing feature.

Im still playing gt2 after all these years.

Makes me want to dig out my copy of GT2 and start a new career in that charming classic.

Well if you've been on the know, PD's been working on this GTAcademy past few months. Kaz even mentioned it on his tweet. It would seem GTAcademy is their priority right now. We'll know for sure once GTAcademy is over.

Personally, I want this game done by Summer. Dragging this game too long with just DLC isn't really refreshing for me. It probably will for like the first week of getting or something, but it's a guarantee most of us will asking for another batch again and again and again shortly after. It's never gonna end, and really it's going to be expensive in the long run. If you want a lot of new cars and events, it's best that we get GT6 soon.

I'll never stop playing GT5...and it's fine to have a girlfriend who likes to paint my cars and her goal is to paint every car i have...ok, its sometimes hard to see her to paint my cars really strange, but ok...so they will have a special touch...and she painted now about 200 of 1050 cars :)

!!
 !

Dead? Certainly not. Is my love of it waning? You bet. Every time I see a car pack released for the competitor, I cringe in envy, that combined with the fact that either Sony or PD's servers getting bogged down ruins my experience with the game, such as the game flat out hanging while trying to enter GTlife ffs.

I cringe too but I will cringe no more when forza 5 release next year and have all those cars for free ..Im not a supporter of monthly dlc obv...I dont think gt5 needs more dlc just more races car mods and tuning options.Save cars and tracks for gt6.

Racing simulators never die. I still play rFactor, GTR2, Race 07 and many more included GT5.

In the other hand I have all Dirt (1 PS3,2 PC,3 PC) games, Grid (PS3) even F1 2010 (PS3) and 2011 (PC) and those are collecting dust with NFS Shift and many more that died in less than a month.

GT5 is on par with the PC racing "buddies" and i have time to play them all.

If you visit this site and there's only been a couple of posts in a month, then at that point, everyone's probably lost interest. The fact that there's still a lot of community activity on here should tell you there's still interest and people are still playing...

This might be my final push in that direction. No matter how much I try I cant get over the standard car thing. I'd rather jump ship and have a lower total of cars that are all on the same level. The car packs really lure me, especially the one that had the souped up Dodge omni, just seems like a fun little ride.

People think this is some sort of competition against Forza. If you want the cars that game keeps getting as DLC, trade your PS3 in and get an Xbox. If you're bored with Gt5, play something else. We'll get the dlc when we'll get it.

Meanwhile, I'm still busy racing.

OK8

They don't know about that. ;)

I think a lot of focus is being put on GT Academy right now. Watching for bugs and glitches. Tho i'm sure another DLC is in the works.

It's unfortunate a lot of people seem set on picking a side, one way or the other. I'm all too happy that I took the plunge and picked up an Xbox 360 not as a replacement for my PS3, but to complement it. Having both games is a win/win situation, and after over six months with FM4, and a year and a half of GT5, I can still say both games excel at different things.

That said, other than this recent leak about Motegi, it has never really been made clear if GT5 will see any further DLC, not counting the sticker-jobs that are the GTAcademy prizes. But the game is far from over - those who've been around the online communities from back in the PS1/PS2 days will tell you that there's always something to do. That's the great thing about racing games, especially ones with customization. We did "online racing" (in the time trial, submit times sort of way) for a decade before Prologue showed up!

For me sadly, yes. After spending three weeks away with work I came home and turned on the trusty PS3, put Gran Turismo in and pondered exactly what to do in game for five minutes before turning it back off.
It no longer offers any real enjoyment and I'm honestly a little disappointed. :-(

It's not dead, it's resting

Don't you mean put to rest :sly:

In reality this topic has been talked about before back in March, April and now look here May as well. I agree with what others have said, it's completed (or dead as some would say).

OK8

Well unless you know something we don't about DLC one cant say we'll ever get it or not. Also not to be mean but it's ironic that you talk about others picking sides and you already picked one it would seem, as you eagerly defend GT5. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with standing up for it, but it does deserve criticism just like any other game that could be better which is many. Also you're not too busy to jump in here :sly:👍

I read the OP and a few comments... and I have this to say:

GT5 isn't over, not even close.
Why? Because of sites like this...
Gran Turismo is such a close-knit community unlike any other.
Even with sub-par community features built into the game, us Turismo players congregate in places like this (GT Planet) and with all the clubs, leagues, events, teams, etc. always ongoing with the support of the dedicated community, we thrive!!

I switch around regularly between GT5, Forza 4 and occasionally PC sims like pCARS. There's always something to do, for instance completing the weekly GT5 seasonal or finding a few more cars for my garage. Or for Forza doing rivals challenges or completing event races.

One thing I wanted to add is that at this point Forza 4 monthly time trials attract less and less entries during the month: some of them end by the end of the month with under 50,000 times set. In comparison, probably also because you don't need to pay a subscription to XBox Live gold, GT5 seasonal time trials still get easily more than 100,000 entries. Despite GT5 being a year older!

I also see a difference in the speed of players. I can easily get inside top 10,000 even on long running Forza 4 rivals challenges (the ones available since launch tend to have around 500,000 entries). Even if I do a GT5 time trial on the day it comes out, I struggle to get inside the top 20,000....

That is an interesting stat.

However not forgetting about Virus, cat and mouse, tag, football, leaderboards for all classes, public and private hoppers, cycled production hoppers and multi lass hoppers (sorry if I've left anyone out, top of my head). I'm not surprised if a certain aspect isn't focused on by most players.
Heck I've got to much to do without worrying about rivals.

Good stat though. Would be nice to know the figures online.

Another reason (aside from the wider range of on-line stuff as already outlined) is the number of potential players available. FM4 has sold around 2.17 million (very good for a racing title), while GT5 has sold 7.52 million (stupidly high for a racing title) given that its no surprise that GT5 is able to pull in more players for a smaller range of events each month.

Its a similar story with regard to the times, more people playing is going to make it harder to get a higher slot, some concerns also have to be raised about what constitutes a valid lap within GT5 as well (given the issues with GTA and the recently pulled TT). They also order leaderboard differently as well, with all dirty laps in FM4 (regardless of time) pushed to the bottom, so running a clean lap in FM4 regardless of time will give you a reasonable position.

Only if you want it to be. Just because DLC hasn't been released doesn't mean a game is just dead all of a sudden.. Besides, Motegi was leaked in GT Academy and chances are it'll be coming to GT5 when the Academy finishes up. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Indeed my guess is also that GT academy cut into the DLC releases, so we'll have to wait until it finishes at least, for PD to finish 2012 with some more DLC.
