Is it just me or does the number of "corrupted savegame" victims increase?

As title says. What are your feelings about that?

Are there really more real savegame victims or is it just a "new" trick to get free stuff from other people?

It does seem like there has been more victims lately. Since its not hard to get money anymore (seasonals), I wouldnt really see the point in a scam like youve mentioned. People should just take the precautionary measures to ensure that it doesnt happen.

People have been losing their game saves since GT5 was released. I don't think the number is increasing.

I lost mine back in June. It didn't take long to get a decent garage back, and lots of money by doing the seasonal races.

What sucked was losing all of my setup cars. Now, I back it up to a USB once in a while.

Maybe its a combination of using borrow glitching and a more frequently crashing game. Regardless if more people people went and spent $5 on a cheap sd card we would hear much less of it.

There were dozens of reported game save losses every month on GTP before the "Save to USB" feature was released. The release didn't change that much.

Most people simply don't like to back-up.

I've felt the same way, it seems there's a new thread on it every day.

I can`t believe that a heavy GT5 user doesn`t make a back-up of his savegame precisely because it is known that there is a risk of corrupted savegame and data loss.

Backup is your friend. I put a backup of GT5 (and every other save) on a stick, an external drive and my computer's hard drive almost every night. With my luck all 4 drives will probably die at once. My PS3 drive actually died after only 7 months and I was VERY happy to have all my backups. Be thankful it isn't Forza 3 or you wouldn't be allowed to have a backup. I really wish they'd change that.

Exactly. That's the main problem. 👍

On the other hand, the gamesaves getting bigger & bigger with the time, the storing processes needs more time.

Now this will as well increase the possibilities to kill your savegame through a tech or human error. :sly:

I run GT5 like every other day for hours on end, have looked at everything in my nearly full museum, and play online a little bit every day. I have the original 40 gig PS3. I even transferred my save game to a new hard drive months ago with no problems (other than losing hundreds of thumbnails). I installed the game the day it came out. No save failures.

The mechanics of mass produced things sometimes fail. That's all it must be.

Of course, pre-1.12 the game would freeze all the time. It seems to be doing better now.

All your backups in the world won't help you if your PS3 dies.... ask me how I know.

Some games saves you copy to a USB or wherever will work - but GT5 won't you'll get an error "this save data was created by another user"

The only thing that by-passes the copy-protected game saves from PS3 to PS3 is the PS+ on-line storage or a system transfer (no good with a dead ps3).

i would say.. its your fault if it dint happen to me 2 days after the games launch, * i had gotten the game almost a whole week early thanks to my friend who worked at gamestop*
i got sooooooo mad lol =D
i believe people are scamming now =(

It goes like this:
- People can't be bothered to back-up
- People do the borrow glitch
- Oh no! They didn't check the size of their save
- They get the 4200kb bug
- People get on GTP and cry about their loss

That's how I see it, I may be wrong.

If your PS3 dies and you have to buy a new one. Bad thing, that`s right. But if you install your account (old PSN-ID with your password is still working regardless on which PS3 station) on your new PS3, start GT5 to have a savegame and then copy your USB savegame to PS3 you should have everything back... Or am I wrong?

No, you're right and he was wrong.;)

I thought they fixed that bug, but if they didn't you may be right and wrong, because this happened to a friend of mine who didn't have a backup and when I went to race with him the other day his driver level was lower

They did fix it but to do the "borrow glitch" you have to delete the game data which deletes all of the patches too and then when the game loads with a save file over the limit, the save becomes corrupted. If I tried the borrow glitch with my 6900kb file it wouldn't work and would then be corrupted.

You mean your PS3 savegame was corrupted...??!! I did as well with a far beyond 4765kB (something about that was the max. size I guess) savegame. My PS3 savegame ended in garage with NO CAR inside. All tickets were gone. I was like .

But backsaving from USB everything went okay and I got the X2010 Prototype with my small sub-account savegame then. ;)

No it wasn't because it was just under the old limit when they (PD) fixed it. If I tried to run it now on a non-updated game (like you have to with the borrow glitch) that is what would happen.

Powell: That isn't true. The save file is linked to your gamer ID. You can have that ID on up to 5 PS3 systems at once. As long as you log in with your proper email and password your save will work anywhere. This is why it's a good idea to deactivate your ID on a PS3 you're going to sell or if it's on a friend's system that you won't be playing on for awhile. The only scenario that would give you trouble is if you had 5 PS3 systems and sold them all without deactivating your ID on them first. You would be out of luck using your ID if you bought a 6th system and therefore couldn't use your current save files. This scenario is highly unlikely.

Hold up to ****. Everyone on this forum seems to be throwing it about that it's the users fault for not backing their **** up? it's ok for those who live on forums and know of these glitches ect, but what about the general enthusiast that just grinds through the game, none the wiser, but awakens one day to find all of his progress wiped clean? How on earth is that his fault? The crux of this is that the developers on this game were lazy ****s that are still patching the game today, after 5 years of the game being in development. Cast your minds back to a time when this thing was actually unacceptable. Would this have happened on a PS2 GT? I think not, and if it did many people would be wanting refunds on either the game or memory cards.

It's not a bug. Mostly it's a handling error by the user or a HDD failure (check the link!). PS2 = no HDD, PS3 = HDD. :sly:

Errors could be minimized if Sony would use a built in (& removeable) flash memory for the gamesaves, like a USB stick. But they don't. Maybe with the PS4?

Next time read the manuals of your PS3 & use your brain. You can sue no one for loosing data on your devices. :dunce:

Tell me this guy is joking, otherwise he's just incredibly naive

Call me cynical, but I think it has increased, and will continue to increase exponentially in relation to how many people are successful in soliciting donations. That's right, I am saying that most of these people are scamming because they understand it is a numbers game. Thousands of GTP users, most of whom are kind generous souls, who figure, "What can 1 car harm?" When you are talking about the sheer volume of people that are on GTP, it isn't inconceivable that you could fill a garage will trade-able cars in a week. Then trade all the freebies in multiples (because it's all gravy anywho) for what you really want on your main account. Rinse and repeat.

Is it wrong? I won't comment on the morality, but that's what I think is happening, and will continue.
