Is the CSR Elite better than the T500 rs?

The Elite has the stronger FFB

Easy to verify:
Download "fedit" software + some "ForceFeedback effects samples" here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kwkunxsldw3hxlb
ezegyh.jpg

These ForceFeedback effects samples are exactly the same than use in T500 RS Control Panel (if you have installed T500 RS drivers you can also found them in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Thrustmaster\T500 RS Racing wheel\ffe")

Put your wheel at 900° and with Forces strength at 100% and launch all effects with "fedit.exe".

On this VID result of these effects for T500 RS Wheel:

So just post your VID with same effects on your Wheel (and we will compared)...

I tested the program on my Elite and it is noticably slower than the T500RS appears on video.

Sadly I can only test in my blacked out HT room and cannot post a video but it's clear to see the Elite is the slower of the two, however imo it's worth twice the cost of the GT2 I had before.
Thank drugstorecowboyy for your honesty.. Not always easy on this forum.

Marketing blah blah...:dunce:

"fedit.exe" (Force-Feedback Editor) is a freeware and comes from DirectX Developer SDK and used to create some Force Feedback effects for Game Developers.
So you will find these effects in your favorite games.
You can create & transform them like you want (squared, triangle, sinus, etc...). Just try it's easy.

In addition you can plug and launch same effect simultaneously on two different devices.

It's why it's one of the best software to compare "Speed" & "Torque" of Steering Wheels.

Do you enjoy yourself so much that you always have to quote yourself?

I recommend that you print out your posts and read it loud in front of a mirror to strenghten your self confidence instead of spamming this thread with multiple posts of identical content. ;)

Thomas, I believe that you shouldn't pay much attention to the post above. You know your wheel is good, I know your wheel is good and 99% of people who own your wheels know they are good. So don't spend your time and your nerves on such guys and better take care of the Clubsport Shifter :)

Wishing you a very Happy and Productive 2012!

There is no need to be rude or sarcastic in that way.

Fanatec CSR Elite is great wheel from what I have read in some reviews from reviewers who I trust about there neutral opinion.

But he would like to se head to head test regarding speed & torque.

I dont see nothing bad about that.

We can also talk about price of CSR-E (539€/$). Christmas holidays are over so you could now give price that has been anounced (499€/$) as I recall.

But that is for another theme. :)

If someone wants an extraordinary test then that person can perform it himself.

I personally would want a drop test of T500RS and CSR Elite but that doesn't mean that Fanatec or Thrustmaster have to perform that test for me but I can buy both wheels and drop them :)

I dont think this is an extraordinary test. This is test regarding the purpose of the product. Product is not produced to be droped, it is produced to turn it from left to right and to make ffb effects.

And nobody didnt ask some company to make that test, he asked members of this forum ( private persons ).

you are right that there are more important things in life. I just wanted to remind everybody that in April I have spotted and exposed a Thrustmaster employee who made hidden marketing under the user name "Topyn". This user had a lot of inside knowledge and posted a lot of technical stuff about the T500RS. After his outing, he never posted again.

"Wildrun" joined this community in July (which is just 3 months after Topyn stopped posting) and he is only posting in this community to promote the T500 RS.

What a strange coincidence :)

There is nothing wrong for a hardware maker to be present in a forum as long as he is not pretending to be a normal user and that his opinions and posts are unbiased. I tell everybody who I am and you know what to think of if i would tell you that the Fanatec wheels are the best in the universe.

Thomas / Fanatec

How did you know that he's an employee of TM? Is it based on the fact that he has "inside knowledge"? And what type of "inside knowledge"? It would be great if you could post link(s) to the "outing". It's one thing to make an accusation but you also need to back it up.

Back in those dark days Thomas, the community rounded on you for that if I remember correctly.
Wildrun claims to be a beta tester. Send him a wheel.

Edit you forgot Gainsym too.

@Mykem. It's buried in the unofficial T500 thread. Great read. A lot of insight on some members there too.

Yeah I was reading that that thread before I became a member. I remember quite a few of you guys from that thread. Each of you has quite a bit of knowledge but that guy Topyn (I had already forgotten his name) had sooooo much more specific knowledge. Not experience or real world driven like the other members. He did have some good tips that could be applied to other products though. Anyway off topic on my part.

I think that software testing of the wheels is one aspect of it, BUT, like benchmark suites they should not be used to determine the entire picture. Sonac did a test where he used software suite to show some differences between the wheels. IMO, I love these sort of tests, because there is no outside bias or influence possibly skewing the scenario.

What that software doesn't tell us is why the wheels performed the way they did. CSR has 2 motors vs the T500RS has 1. Fanatec were questioned early about this decision, but if you have experience with electric motors then a rule of thumb is that they derive their power from rotation (there are ways to deliver power faster and all are not the same, etc. etc.).

Fanatec might have chosen to have 2 smaller motors so they can assist each other when trying to really start moving, they could be setup into a different ratio to allow better feel, and maybe the 2 smaller motors would allow for more subtle feedback. The software test showed the CSR-Elite to be faster, but what if the signal was sent to the wheel for another few ms, maybe the T500RS would have reached the goal first (slow start, but maybe the extra power gives a faster rotation), but then what about when the wheels are given the stop signal then have to apply the force in the other direction.

There is a bunch of questions you can ask a tester but in the end short of testing it, all answers would be speculation. We can't expect them to do every test and every variation that, may still not give us all the answers we want. All I can do is ask (if curious) and be thankful that they tested it at all.

I'd much rather see some realworld tests, benchmarks, evaluations etc. then none at all. I also really like the concept of a community tester. Regardless of their test methods, or setup or any other factors, their opinions will have some weight since they have been in the community contributing before that specific opportunity presented itself. My thanks to you gamers. (slight derail at the end)

In what way?
How is Thomas trying to degrade TM's image when it's not Thomas who's spamming some .exe files with a ffb test on T500RS? (I'm wrong there but you get the point)

If Thomas thinks Wildrun is an employee of Thrustmaster then he should ask him or provide some proof. But that post, personal attacks, aren't necessary here, whether he is CEO of a wheel developer or just a regular member like the rest of us.

Hm...95% of WildRun's posts are in T500RS related threads, and majority of his posts contain some tips and knowledge of T500RS, also his only threads he made are T500RS Christmas prices and a T500RS + TH8RS bundle (both threads contain links for online shopping for many regions).

So Thomas has a point here, he's not just randomly throwing out accusations.

Your post reminds me of the FM vs GT thread @ForzaPlanet.

Oh look! X person likes GT and all of their posts are in this thread, X must be a GT fanboy here to troll!!!!11!!!!!1!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!

If you were to go by that logic than half the people posting in Sim Hardware would be supposed employees of one company or another. I posted links for T500 deals also, does that make me a Thrustmaster employee? Aren't these forums here to help people? If we drive away all the helpful people here because they don't support the company you like than we won't have much of a forum here anymore. This place is great because there are so many different views and experiences being shared, even if I don't always agree with them, just my opinion though. Sure it's possible he's an employee, but it still doesn't justify personal attacks, which you seem to be dancing around in defense of Thomas. If you think Wildrun is not being honest about who he is than ask him, or report him to Jordan and let him handle it.

I would like to quote Wildrun:

pinocchio-prequel.gif

I think this was pretty insulting and nobody was really upset about this massive attack of Wildrun.
But maybe I just misunderstood that picture and he was just posting an image of himself?

Wildrun was accusing FCTaff that he is a liar. But FCTaff is an official community tester voted by the community so if somebody calls him a liar he better should know that he is not sitting in a glasshouse and throwing stones.

I'm not throwing accusations, I'm just saying that there is a chance that WildRun might be working with TM, but that might is just that, a small possiblity.
Yes, I find myself also trying to help out, spending 1 hour verifying replays for WRS, 30 minutes searching the forums to link new guys to what they need and so on, but this isn't about helping out, is it?

As I said, I'm not accusing WildRun and I don't care since it's none of my business.

Ive asked Wildrun outright if he works for Thrustmaster.
He told me he's a beta tester. If that's what he says he is then that's how I think of him.

A beta tester who always offers support for the product. A beta tester who shows where all the good deals are. Probably the most dedicated beta tester around here.

Thomas hire him or send him a wheel to test lol.

All I see is Thomas trying to degrade the image of their competitors.

No he isn't. All he has done is called into question the posting habits of one member. I have often seen him posting about the quality of the competition.

You don't think his post smacks of arrogance?

Anyways, this thread has gone off-topic.

Come on guys not ANOTHER witchhunt. I mean really can anyone have an opinion around here that doesnt have to be fanatec positive. Anytime someone questions this wheel they are attacked. They are called a liar or that they are working for another company. The way some of you act Id almost swear your on the fanatec payroll. But im sure its more like brown nosing hoping for that test wheel.

(I love that speech. It has caught real fire on the web. Its popping up everywhere.)

Just my opinion, but I fail to see how anything is gained with the direction this thread is going.

Just a like an actual car it is hard to say car Y is better than car X without actually driving it. Sure there are reference points on paper. But many cars look good or bad on paper, but end up being vastly different to drive. On paper the Nissan GTR looks like it would get wrecked on a track (high weight, front heavy, etc), yet there are few cars that can keep up with it (average people driving). A Lotus Exige is not all that special on paper, but get behind the wheel and its pretty awesome.

Going back to what Thomas said, the SINGLE most important factor in a real or a sim racing wheel is how it FEELS! Everything else is ancillary. Some people will like the power and quickness of the the T500RS. Others will like the smoothness and precision of the CSRE. But people really need to keep this in the forefront of their mind when forming opinions and conclusions about their wheel.

Another thing I have yet to see (but don't exactly expect) is for someone to compare these wheels to driving a real car, like you know, in real life. I think it would be really cool if Thomas could get a BMW works driver to do a lap at European track and then do then use the same car and track with the CSW/GT and give an honest opinion on how the wheel felt. What effects are translated, what are omitted? Probably best to use iRacing or GT5. Replicating what a real car drives like is, in the end, the ultimate goal of racing sims and racing wheels in general.

Thomas beat me to the punch !

I was going to say the personal insults started with me being called a liar.

I have beta tested race rigs, and many many games, never a wheel. I was voted by the members of ISR to test and review the wheel. Nothing what so ever to do with Thomas. He had zero say in my appointment as a tester and zero control over my review. I am an active member on ISR and like to think of myself as helpful for the most part and that members picked me because they know I'm outspoken and would give an honest review.

No way would I risk my rep and give members a bum steer. I'm not putting my name to anything I would not buy myself, I truly believe every word I have said about the Elite and unlike some have tried both wheels.

Getting away from software tests, just try the in hands test. Are you going to sit and look at your wheel spin all day or drive and enjoy it ? It's not all about raw power, though the Elite has bucket loads of that. It's the subtle twitches and movements that really give you that feeling of loss of grip, tail slide and so on. If you tried the Elite it would be a no brainer. The t500 is good I'm not trying to say it's not and was undoubtedly the mid price king but the Elite is better IMHO... Why would I lie, I'm not getting paid to write good things by Fanatec. I'm not a beta tester so probes will not get anything else to test. I have nothing to lose, if it sucked or was below par I would say. Trust me.

I do think people knocking the Elite wheel should take a long hard look at the t500 F1 wheel ! Now that really is plastic crap. Someone should hang their head in shame.
