Is the quality of online getting worse for anyone else i.e. frequent black screens?

This can't just be me, surely. The black screen of death seems to be happening more and more frequently, and it doesn't seem to matter even if it's just a one-country lobby.

Probably about two of the last ten races I did this evening started in a normal fashion, the rest either black-screened, or half the field started and half the field were stuck with black screen going nowhere.

I can probably count the amount of "normal" races I've had since PSN come back on one hand. I don't understand it.

I've got to say, the quality of online is really unacceptable. I don't understand how in 2011, PD could be so far behind. I understand every game has online issues, but in GT5 it seems to be excessive, and it really needs fixing.

And my internet connection is more than sturdy, before anyone asks ;)

I only get it when theres a lot of people and they are all spread around the circuit in warm-up if people go pit before countdown finishes it starts right away. try that.

From what I've found black screens are caused by players experiencing spikes in their connection, and ones that have very low ping. Once they leave, the game will start, that has been my experience.

I really don't think it's PD. Online in general seems to be worse since the PSN came back up. Today me and a buddy were doin some split screen black ops. He died and all of the sudden it totally froze and it put up these weird green diamonds on his screen (if you've ever played they were like the diamonds you see when you're in an attack chopper). Had to do a hard restart. I've been having problems with GT5 recently too.

I doubt that all of the games use the same servers and just because Black Ops is broken doesn't excuse GT5. This game is broken. I don't care what the reason is. The original poster is right. It needs to be fixed. The quality is unacceptable. I have a really expensive and consistent 10mb connection. So before you blame the end-user, sell your cop-out to someone who cares what about your assumptions. I'm going on experience here.

Then we would have experienced the black screen of death on every online multiplayer game out there. But seriously, I really think this is the game's fault (Polyphony Digital altogether) and not solely based on someone's crappy connection. This is the only game I experience this weird black screen of death that usually lasts almost a minute and screws up the entire race and causes glitches. They really need to refine online and a lot of us now are playing online rather than A-Spec.

I've gotten the blackscreen a couple times when I'm just trying to enter my own lounge!

As a comparison in the overall quality/speed, in the olden days, when I saw the countdown timer begin, I could quickly come off the track, back into the lobby, make some last second adjustments to my setup and get back in time for the start of the race. If I tried to do that these days, you can bet I'd miss the race.

But overall, I've seen and heard of much worse. GT5 is tolerable...for now:nervous:

7Sins
? But then again, everyone has different modems/routers.

Exactly... UPnP takes up memory too. I have my router port forwarded, UPnP disabled & OpenDNS' have never had a problem since.

Thread title is dead on! Seriously I'm sick of this too. Also worth mentioning lots of never-ending races getting stuck.

I have the black screen the now before i am even online racing,at the gt world/arcade mode screen so annoying!!!!!

Yep, I quote OP big times. And it's not a single country/single user issue. Online is almost ruined after PSN outage, I don't like wasting my time getting disconnected every 3 or 4 races.

That's bang on...I always tell people to either wait in the pit lane or on the start line and the race starts up right away

That's the thing though... I don't want to kick out players for that reason simply because they are out of the pits. I just find it ridiculous. These free runs before the race starts act as a warm-up. It can also be used for qualifying for grid position. Instead here we are fearing that anyone who leaves the pit will cause a black screen of death...

Seriously PD, fix this crap!

You shouldn't have to. It's part of the game and PD need to fix their bugs.

I can't even play online with any game.
I've tried to change my PSN passaword, because the one that i have isn't work anymore after the PSN hack, but when i go to the PSN's site to change it, a message appears saying that the server is unevalieabe to my country.

But it was 1-2 weeks ago, i've tried to change the passaword for two days, tring everything a found on the internet and nothing worked. When i get some time i'll try to change it again.

Very consistantly. I'm getting real fed up with it.

This is just a suggestion but maybe the tsunami had something about it and maybe theres a plug or something undone.
Probably not but maybe?

I port forwarded my router a week ago. It helps with bad/lagging connections but it does not help against the freezes when exiting a room or loading any of your garages.

I have 1200 cars in my standard list alone. I'm always frozen. Lost in purgatory.

I think this thread was started first, so please disregard the comments about tons of threads regarding this topic. If Mods are watching, please, PLEASE create a centralized thread for these concerns, as this topic seems to get a new thread every day.

This topic gets a new thread each and every day.

Once again, here we go.

1. Disable custom music soundtracks.
2. Clear your system cache.
3. Reset your internet connection before turning on your playstation.
4. Pray to deity of choice.
5. Contact Sony customer service.

To find out exactly how to do the above, use the search tool for the site. Again, this topic gets a new thread daily, so the info on how to do this is out there.

I have noticed that sometimes a race will take longer than usual to load, staying on the black screen, but for me they always load, I guess I'm lucky.
