No, that's not the only way, it's just your way. I haven't maxxed my multiple F1 tunes because I like them the way they are. Because the available power from a "max tune" is pretty arbirtrary in GT (really, how do they decide what power bumps a given mod gives a given car?) it's a fair practice to use something like PP to create as even of a comparison as possible.

I don't trust PP because that would make a Catterham better than all of these cars and make the Gillet vertigo the best non F1/X1 car in the game and neither of those are true

Macca = McLaren... or Paul McCartney :D

👍

Isn't shortening or abreviating words words against the AUP.
Never have I heard the Mclaren F1 reffered to as a macca PMSL.

Aaron I didn't think about the vertigo that with a good tune is rapid but it is a race car.

I'm using the vertigo as an example of a flawed PP system...
I'm not gonna compare the McLaren to a Vertgo

So I tried this car last night on the 'Ring. I still hate it. Seems like it either understeers on no throttle/brake and oversteers on throttle. The best I could manage was 7:23.. which coincidentally, was the only valid lap I ran out of 5 since I couldn't control the damn car.

McLaren F1 with or without downforce?

McLaren F1, fully upgraded, full downforce on Sport Soft Tyres.

All Dirving aids off

Manual Shift

On cars that have oversteer issues, light driver aids are okay, I do that with cars like that... Also, I'm VERY used to the car and controlling its tendencies adds to the fun!

So i did try it :P

6:35 on the ring, fully tuned + max downforce, no personal tuning, and no aids + with a Ds3 controller. So the person said its possible doing 6:00 blank up to 6:15 - i love you know :P just going to get a wheel this christmas :D

It's awesome

Downforce is great but rise the performance points pretty quickly, so you can try to compare using pp system, let's say @ 610pp and see what happen.

The GTR has less power but turns better

Sweet :D good to know! Im unlucky with the UCD, Still waiting for the Toyota GT1 and some other cars :P but i just started playing again so fingers crossed!

save your money....buy a Nardo, check Stormbringers list and see were the Nardo stands compared to the Mclaren.

Lap times are way too close for accurate comparison... On any track, the margin of error is a second or two (or up to ten on nürburgring)

Praiano's McLaren F1 tune is absolutely sick - in the sense that it makes the car immaculate. I highly recommend it. As for McLaren F1 killers... check my Nardo tune in the link in my sig below, it's fantastic and pretty much rivals what I can do in the F1. They Veyron is built for speed but unless you are a fantastic driver you're going to be hitting walls constantly. Plus, if you can in fact drive it to max specs, it's just not as fun in a race because it's fast but there's no competition.

McLaren F1 Rivals that I can think of (with the right tunes applied):

Pagani Zonda R
Audi R8 5.2
Ferrari Enzo Ferrari
Volkswagen Nardo
Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR
McLaren MP4-12C
Lambo Murcie Super Veloce
Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1

I'm sure I can think of more but I'm at work right now.

Zonda R: really? Not quite fast enough... It is a production RACE CAR!!

Audi R8 v10: Controllable, way too slow!

Enzo: slower (slightly) worse turning... Just below on every level

VW nardo: I'm clueless, though I'm certain that it's not quite as fast, but it's maneuvering may be REALLY good and overcome speed

ACR: handling is good but speed and acceleration suffer

MP4-12: this isn't F1's replacement... That's coming in a year or so

Lamborghini Murcialago Superveloce: same problem as Enzo, with better looks and price

Corvette zr1(RM): RM gives good handling, but that's a race car... Without RM, it still handles great... Speed is good but not great

Could be personal preference or driving style then, I guess. I do the majority of my testing on Sarthe no Chicane and for me, all of these cars run in the 3:19-3:24 range per lap including the McLaren F1. I use a DS3.
