JGTC S1 Round 1 Race + Results

And *THAT* is one of my biggest gripes about this game :ouch: :grumpy: Give me penalties, sure, but don't give me a penalty because someone else spun in front of me and then let them off!!!
tru dat! I'd love to see the AI cars take a stroll down pit lane :)
___________

And here's the breakdown:

R1 - super hard
R2 - hard
R3 - medium
R4 - soft
R5 - super soft
____________________

woooo! that was fun!

I made tons of mistakes though. Did pretty well staying on the track, but got 2 penalty pits, and my tire strategy was all wrong.

Started on R3's to try to get the early lead.

Here's a lap breakdown:

  • 04 - Took the lead from the RX7 LM.
  • 07 - Pit to change tires to R4's (I knew this wasn't a smart move, but I was just experimenting).
  • 08 - Came out of the pits in 4th behind the Nissan Z LM Concept, caught up and bumped it coming out of a turn. Got a forced pit.
  • 09 - Came out of the penalty pit in 4th.
  • 15 - I'm 2nd, about 9 seconds behind the RX7. My R4's are looking bad and I'm hoping to pit at the same time as the RX7 but the RX7 pulls off without me seeing so I pass the pits before the "RX7 is pitting" message pops up!
  • 16 - Hit the pits and change to R2's. Strangely, I come out in first place (by a hair... I assume the RX7 had a long pit b/c of fueling). I don't don't if RX7 is going to pit again so I just try my best to make clean laps and put as much distance between me and him. I get the gap up to 17 seconds.
  • 25 - R2's are starting to get slippy so I head for the pit to change to R5's for the final sprint. On the way in, I hit the barrier! I still have control of the car, so I drive into the pit hoping it won't count but my car drives right through as a penalty! I come out in 1st place with a 3 second lead. I just say "screw it" and push through to the end on my seriously nasty R2's.
  • 28 - RX7 pits in.
  • 30 - Take an easy win with a sizable lead.
_______________

Strangely, in those last two laps when the RX7 had fresh tires and I was nearly driving on bare rims, he only gained 2 seconds per lap.

Until this race, I had only driven this car on R5's. It was interesting trying to adapt to different tires. I think I did some of my best driving on the worn R2's.

Man, I love these write ups and pictures ... makes it all worth while!

I've just got out of the car and it's the longest that I've ever been in it for one race ... pheewwwwiiieeee ... quite a blast!

Evo, yes my top speed was fine, but there was a Lancia Delta Rally Car '84 in the pack and I'll tell you man, his exceleration was STUNNING. At one point he was only a second a head of me and I could catch him on every corner and come out faster ... but he would take off like a bloody tomahawk missile and leave me standing every time we hit a straight. (He had 455HP and 890 Weight).

The same car also managed to run for 18 laps on RH tires ... he was way behind everyone else for pitting, so I really thought that he'd spend the entire race with just one pit stop ... of course, the AI being the AI, he pitted again on the 28th lap and I was only 20 seconds behind! Yippee ... I took 1st!

I managed to pull out a 20 second lead and keep it to the end, although my tire strategy meant that they were pretty raw near the end there!

I'm going to re-run .. probably a few times ... because I (a) enjoyed it and (b) I had a couple of off track excursions (no penalties!) ... once the AI rammed me off on the hairpin before T3 ... little bastards ... and the other was my fault when I took the chicane before the startline too hot and ended up in the gravel ... man was I cussing the house down!

I'll take pics and do a proper write up when I get a race I'm happier with.

Oh, did anyone else notice that on the 29th lap the replay stops recording?

great stuff EvO, Soyfu and Kolyana 👍

Really interesting to read all those race summaries. I'll be running for the first time today when I'll wake up, can't wait. I'll post a write-up with pictures once I have my final and best time.

I see,you had the same car I did..lol
The Lancia was a stubborn piece!

Yes, I forgot about that, I should have said something when I was doing my tire-test runs, it stops after an hour.....It must only cut part of it off, because when you go to save the replay, it still has the correct amount of time listed, but I never actually tried to sit there the whole hour and something to see.

Did you catch that,viper?

I caught him when he pitted on lap 28 ... finsihed 20 seconds ahead. And I wasn't running for an hour, so the cut off on the replay seems to be geared to something else. It may be coincidence, but it was as I crossed the line for the 29th lap that a message came up and said "Replay has stopped recording" or something.

I'm moving next Monday and I'm meant to be packing Saturday and Sunday ... so I'm not sure how it's going to affect my play time over the next week ... I hope to get in an hour or so each day regardless and I'll sacrifice the WRS before I ditch time here, but just thought I'd give people the heads up ... at the very least my posting will dry up for a few days come Monday.

SON OF A BIZZ!!! Stupid Camaro race car blocked my line at the last minute and drove me off the grass on lap 17! Other than that, I was leading by a minute, with 2 pit stops on RH/RH, and no penalties (made small contact a few times]. Ugh, gonna have to redo this. :ouch:

Late braking, then overtaking people from the inside = OMG FUN!!1!

Minor gripe: Couldn't PD give us proper damned splits? How about telling us the distance between us and the car in front, and then the car behind? Talk about some half hearted, amateur bloody design. They're not even trying any more.

That's wierd, I've run lots of long races and I've never seen that. Is your memory card full? Perhaps it stops caching the replay when it's out of space to possibly save it.

Yeah, it was a blast. I'm running this thing at least once a day just for kicks.

I kind of agree with that. Even the more arcade-style PGR2 displays forward/back splits.

To me, GT4 seems pretty raw. The actual driving is great but everything else is less than perfect.

Run it on b - spec then :p

Guaranteed no AI contact

It's a 64MB card with nothing else but a couple of replays and the GT4 main save on it ... surely it's not out of memory already? I found it odd, too ... especially so close to the end of the race and ROb told me that he has TEN HOURS of a 24 hr race recorded.

Not sure what the deal is with that.

Well said ... there are lots of *little* things in GT4 that are just plain missing ... but really BASIC things, you know? The sort of things that NEED to be in a racing game.

I found myself chasing the AI a few times - of course - and I often had another breathing down my neck ... I found myself constantly wanting to know if I was gaining on the car in front and losing the car behind, and there's no way to know that.

Quite infuriating :guilty:

I've also found no way of knowing your fastest lap once you're out of the race (unless you watch the entire replay - which in my instance stopped a lap short :p). I made a note, as it happens, during the race, but once I had exited from this is there anyway to find this information out short of watching the entire replay again?

That's why you pause your game at the start of lap 30 to take your fastest lap in note. Anyway you just know you won't beat it on your last lap sure at 99%. :)

My first run here was an exciting one,

I ended up winning the race, but just barely!

The most fun was towards the end,When The Lancia caught up to me,I was in first. The thing killed me on the straightaways...it was FAST!!
I was better on the corners though.

I mean what was a rally car doing there in the first place..that was my first thought,so what did I do?

I put him in the dirt where he belongs!!
lol
just kidding....

I first caught him as he was coming out of the pits.
There was like 7 laps left, and he just got done pitting,so I knew he had Hard tires, and knew that he was good till the end.
I ,however started sweating my own tire situation, but it was too close, and I decided to ride it out. They were bright green,so I thought that I would be pretty good for a while yet.

I passed him as he came out,and then when we were going down the straightaway after the first set of turns, all of a sudden SMACK!! He slammed into the back of me! I looked back, and he was right on my a$$ !! So I said "OK,lets play!"
I kindly gestured him out the window, and proceeded down the straight.

We exchange places for the next couple of laps,a few times.
On the last lap, naturally he gets me going down the straight again. We exchange places on the next turn.

After the next set of turns,he passes me by.I follow him for a bit,and then I passed him on the set of turns before the hairpin, only when I passed him,he slammed his brakes on,and went sliding off into the dirt,I look back and see him spining around in a cloud of dust. PERFECT!! This will work even better!

So I get through the hairpin, and I look back, and he is alittle bit behind this time, but thats what i wanted, because he was going to get a run on me like he always does, down the back straightaway.
Only this time,I will have some distance on him,and he will catch my draft, and pull even harder.

So about halfway down the straightaway, he slams into me again, and I go lunging forward going like 170! lol

That puts me even farther ahead of him,but by this time,my tires were really starting to make me nervous, because I had been pushing my car really hard.

So I stayed in front of him,my heart is beating faster, I get to the chicanes,my heart is pumping even faster.....tunnel vision sets in..

I knew that I had to put some distance between us,because he would probably catch me on the last litle stratch before the finish.

So, I go and totally screw the chicane up,I almost lost it coming off the last one,and almost spun it all the way around, because I was pushing so hard.but somehow managed to save it,and went powersliding, like I was mocking the rally car behind me.
I stayed in front of him,and looked back, and knew he was going to be coming,so I just stood on it with both thumbs, and got the win.

he came in 0.019 behind me....

an excerpt from robs post race interview.....

"Yes ,it was a great run for us. You know, this JGTC series is so great, the competition is so intense,we are so close! You couldnt even fit a lug nut between the cars when we qualified for this thing,it was so close!

This was my first trip to Japan, the people here are really friendly and helpful. And i'd like to take this opportunity to thank my good frien Kolyana, for giving me the Grand Tour, and help show me the way around this place!

They have an awesome facility here at Motegi. And after this week,I could honestly say,I think I like this track!

Overall,it was a team effort, and VR Motorsports had a great week her for the first round. My teammate,Veilsidebr got the pole for his class, and hes got a great crew behind him,and the skills to back that up,so he will certainly have a great run also.I expect you guys to be talking to him next..."

Are we allowed to cut corners in the pit lane

On the replay-cut-short issue this has been in the game for as long as I can remember (GT3 definitely, GT1/2 I can't remember). Basically the replay buffer fills up and the message is to inform you that this has happened.

WWoooo just finished my first run, I dont usually drive that far for my holidays :p .
Did a two stopper using HARDS all around, managed 11 laps before stopping, the right front was in the worst condition, very orange.
Was against the Lancia , Pug 206 , RSC toyota , Merc 190E tourer & Subi Impreza SuperTourer.
The Lancer and Pug are rocketships and only marginally better under brakes than the others ( which are pretty bad ) :scared:
Took about 4 Laps to make my way to 3rd place chasing the Lancia with the Pug in front and pulling away.
On the 5th Lap the Lancia spins right in front of me entering the 2nd hairpin so I jink right to go around him (waiting for him to back into me :nervous: ) still braking just putting the the right side tyres into the dirt and manage to get around cleanly, starting to breathe again on the next straight, meanwhile he sits in the middle off the road going backward and forwards a few times before he gets underway in last place, ( last I will see of him I think :dopey: ).

Things quiet down now as I try to chase down the Pug ( 25 sec gap ), as his tyres wear I start to slowly real him in, the Pug pits on L9, I pass him while hes exiting pitlane, holding my breath, waiting to be rammed up the tail pipe, but no alls ok as I take a wide line through turn 1 then on the gas hard, as he exits turn 1 he runs wide into the dirt and spins on his cold tyres, ( how easy is this I think  ) . Im off leading the race now, tyres looking very second hand but managing to keep smooth.
11 laps done time to pit, I suddenly realize that Ive never actually driven into the pits before DOH! ,were was that entry point :dunce: owwww there it is slam the brakes on slides onto the grass heading for the pit entry sign, just misses it as i come to stop, then get going agian, luckily without a penalty, and into my pit, HARDS, no fuel, I'm off .
All quiet for 5 laps or so when the pug really starts to catch me, just not getting into this stint, must be poor tyre pressures I think, (bloody pitcrew) .
As im half way along the third straight I'm slammed from behind by the PUG, it maxes out my tacho with hardness of the hit giving me a bad case of whiplash, I brake later and stay in front but let him by the next time he comes jetting up behind me.
He Pits and I'm back in front till L22 when I make my second stop, this time I get the pit entry ok :sly: . Hards & splash of fuel and off.

8 laps to go PUG has a 15 sec lead and is pulling away while im struggling on cold tyres, thats when i realize Mr Lancia is back on the pipe and catching me hand over fist, not sure if he has to pit again so i press on as hard as I dare. YES Mr lancia pits, the Pug pits woooww , I take the lead three laps to go chest pounding as i hold off Pug on his cold tyres , have 6 sec gap when with two laps to go i run wide into the dirt at the final chicane  ,( my only off road excursion by the way ) not too bad but still slows me up, I somehow manage to wobble around again and take the finish flag WWOOO by just 1.8 secs over the PUG . 🤬 YESSS!!

Definatly giving this more tries, just thought I would share my First one with you all 👍

By the way my replay stopped well short of an hour, not sure how long its supposed to last, but when you save the replay it still shows the final time ok in the file name area, strange.

Steve

Logically it does not make sense to have the force-pit option on if you are allowing people to rerun the race. If you are allowed multiple attempts you probably aren't going to submit a race where you are penalized.

I say keep force-pit on and allow only 1 run of the race. The gentlemens' agreement we have should keep us honest.

I will be runing that race only at sunday cos im taking a break from GT4 and PS2 - playing non stop since almost 3 months gave me a injury on my thumb :P
About forced pit in - if you want submit a time without even 1 forced pit in (as probably everybody wants) than you must run every race perfectly clean so it is IMO logical to have it ON and run as many times as we want cos every time we are forced to run clean race as we would be if we could run it only once.
EE my weak english steped in but i hope that you guys understood my thoughts ;)

That was my suggestion to viper also, makes it more fun and realistic to me. I mean, RL racers do NOT get to rerun the race as many times as they want until they're happy with the result. Penalties and having a bad race sometimes are all part of racing, so allowing us to run multiple times kills some of the fun for me. It also evens the field for those people who don't have the luxury of spending 10 hours a week on these things, like some people here do.

But of course, since everyone else is gonna do it, I'm gonna have to do it to stay competitive. I would vote for a single run though if it ever comes to that 👍

I ran my race today. I chose the perfect pit strategy. I calculated it on my computer before running the race to determine which strategy was fastest overall. I passed all the cars on the first lap and rarely saw them again. There was some incidental contact with the Camaro Race Car and that was it. Didn't even lose the lead in the pits. Fastest lap came on 28. No forced pits at all, but 2 spins. First half the race was beautiful. Second half was almost a disaster. Lapped half the field once.

Also had what will go down in JGTC history as 'the pass'. Came out of the corner after T1 right on the heels of the jaguar stomped on it early to pass him on the right coming out of the sweeper, let off the gas just enough to let the Lister move and gunned it past on the left. I shall post pictures that will not do it justice.

the 'incidental contact'

passing the 4th place car

everyone lining up for the sharp corner after T1

stomped on it, right on the jag

moving to the inside on the sweeper

moving past

now in between and on the lister

off the gas for split second and back on for the pass

see ya

outcornering the all poweful leader

taking the lead once and for all, by outbreaking him after the long straight.

Would like to keep this race as my final even with the 2 spins, but as Zeratul said will probably run it again to stay competitive.

Hell of a lot of fun though!

Yeah see, you had a memorable race, wouldn't it be nicer to just leave it at that? If it weren't for my teammate I would probably only run once, regardless of the outcome, but anyway, such are the rules for now...

I concur. The multiple try idea actually favours the fastest drivers. I know for sure I can't beat Hotboi and Veilside on my best day. Having them make a mistake is the only chance I have. Without that factor involved it is almost another WRS style race.

But it sure is a lot of fun.

eatsviper4lunch
**** that was great Rob 👍 Do you expect to rerun it again or this was your final try?

I may have 1 more run at it if time allows, but I will probably keep this one.

I remember that now, GT2 did do the same, but Im not sure about 1. Of course none of the previous titles had an actual 24hour event!

For the moment the rules won't change. We are running in Arcade mode let's not forget it, there is no way to know and post your car's milleage after a race for verification. Hell if we were running in GT Mode I would make a rule with a maximum number of km's for each session, a value for testing and another for the qualif. But now let's not be naive, in Arcade mode this would never work and I know way too well that if you **** up after 2-3 laps you hit the pause then exit. Thrust system that's great, but in this situation it's not worth alot.
