man this is massive, Vettel to Ferrari Kyvat to replace Him at Redbull and Alonso to Mclaren.

only question mark now is who is alonso's team mate

Alonso not confirmed at McLaren, I haven't actually heard that he's leaving Ferrari from the stallion's mouth yet despite all the obvious conjecture.

He's expensive, there's a lot of talent out there that's younger and despite his clear skill he's not an easy driver to live with. Red Bull's announcement has caught a lot of people on the hop I think... and it's left Alonso in an awkward place.

I thought Alonso said he was going to retire as a Ferrari driver. Guess things change.

Ferrari lured him over with the promise of a competitive car. They didn't hold up their end of the bargain, so why should Alonso?

Vettel's announcement feels like McLaren in 2012 beating Hamilton to the punch in announcing his departure.

Apparently The out going CEO of Ferrari asked Alonso what he wanted and Alonso wanted out early. I just read it online but now I cant find it.

Super Fomula is one of the fastest feeder series out there - it's quicker than GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5. Also, the teams haven't done a qualifying simulation yet, so Rosberg's FP1 times aren't really representative.
Indeed, FP3 showed that only Marussia and Ceterham will struggle to eclipse the best time from the SF14-Toyota.

But Super Formula isn't a feeder series. It's the top level of single seaters in Japan, a senior national single seater series. SF is to Japan what Indycar is to USA.

Lewis put it in the wall. Shouldn't affect him massively since it was towards the end but he missed that medium run.

20.000 posts! Congratulations prisonermonkeys!

That remains to be seen. For all we know, Vettel is replacing Raikkonen.

I'd say its time for him to leave Ferarri. Alonsos been there a while and Ferarri haven't given him a car to compete with. I'm an Alonso fan so ill probably support him which ever team he ends up at. I'm also a Ferarri supporter but there's no one to support next year that I like Raikonnen or Vettel? Ill wait to see who they bring in in 2016. So ill probably be supporting Mclaren-Honda next year.

Not that I want Bottas or Massa to lose their seat, they're both doing a fantastic job at Williams, but I think Alonso would be very interesting to watch if he was at Williams next year.

Not going to happen though.

One more curveball, McLaren wanted Vettel as well so perhaps he is actually going there?...

Great lap by Rosberg, minimised the damage in any mistakes compared to Hamilton's costly errors. Love seeing the skypad comparisons like that!

It's believed he signed a pre-contract with Ferrari that said that if he activated an exit clause in his Red Bull contract, a Ferrari deal would automatically start. Or it would at least give them the right to make the first offer.

Yeah but it's all basically confirmed, Alonso isn't going to Redbull so Mclaren is the only option.

It's a feeder series to the big 3s factory efforts(Honda, Toyota, Nissan)but it does have decent national following such as Indycar.

Only way it would happen is if one of their contracts got bought out, which would be easily possible with a Spanish sponsor that would inevitably come with an Alonso move.

That isn't literally true although I admit it's a fair presumption.

Ron Dennis may feel like paying the poison back to Alonso after "spygate", who knows? And there's no shortage of "playstation generation" drivers milling around on the market with good sponsorship behind them.

Alonso to McLaren is the obvious conclusion but I'm not sure it's done-and-dusted yet.

Not surprised Lewis lost out on pole position, his racing line for entry into Spoon has been poor over quite a number of years now IIRC. I felt like tweeting him yesterday about it to for him to use more of the track there but thought it is unlikely he will read it and that his engineers would likely point that out to him anyway, needs to get out of that habit in my opinion on this track. His way only advantage is less likely to go on grass but you put in more lateral load so heats up tyres more and you can't carry as much speed in so lose out not only on entry but also exit.

He's still on the front row, good time from Rosberg.
It was a relief to see the car could be fixed in time for qualifying without any gearbox damage and a lap that put him at least on the front row. Hopefully no reliability problems for the race. I want Lewis to win the pole trophy though so it has now become a bit more harder to achieve now.

What's the betting one of them has a failure of some sort which robs us from a wheel to wheel battle between them. Only decent battle so far between them was at Bahrain :grumpy:
