It was a relief to see the car could be fixed in time for qualifying without any gearbox damage and a lap that put him at least on the front row. Hopefully no reliability problems for the race. I want Lewis to win the pole trophy though so it has now become a bit more harder to achieve now.
It probably won't happen because he's had too many bad qualifying sessions, he should just be focusing on getting it on the front row and trying to outrace Rosberg.

Jeeee....SUS Lewis. One of the days Lewis will just breakdown crying in one of these post qually interviews.

Still quite a few Q3's left until end of season so good chance if he can get it together and car is reliable too. One worry for championship battle are the power units especially with last race being so crucial, might be worth taking a grid penalty to try and be more safe when others might take the hit too.

If Mercedes think they have an advantage in the last race and they are unsure of their reliability then it would definitely be worth taking a 10 place penalty because they would probably get an easy 1-2 anyway.

Williams will likely be quick at that track though, just a shame for Lewis in Hungary IIRC he maybe lost one of his power units due to fire which makes him more marginal. I suppose at least their situation is good compared to some other teams. Hopefully no more big reliability problems for the rest of the season.

I don't know if he did lose his power unit in Hungary, a couple of races ago Ted Kravitz said that Mercedes had managed to salvage parts from the fire and I saw a chart prior to Monza which showed that Nico and Lewis had used the same number of components which was a surprise.

It seems that the worst of the rain and typhoon will hit on Monday, so I don't have to change the recorder settings on my dvr.

Not surprised Lewis lost out on pole position, his racing line for entry into Spoon has been poor over quite a number of years now IIRC. I felt like tweeting him yesterday about it to for him to use more of the track there but thought it is unlikely he will read it and that his engineers would likely point that out to him anyway, needs to get out of that habit in my opinion on this track. His way only advantage is less likely to go on grass but you put in more lateral load so heats up tyres more and you can't carry as much speed in so lose out not only on entry but also exit.
did you just try to say lewis a world champion needs to listen to some internet forum kid about racing.

please, without racing line grip information, how the car reacts to each corner and telemetry you have next to no idea where he is really losing his time and its all speculative.

I saw also on Sky comparison that it is where he lost out on Nico quite a bit of lap time and it makes perfect sense in physics terms and I know Lewis will likely be told how and where he is losing time but it is not always easy to stop something you are used to doing and not easy to put a lap together in Q3. If he used more off the track, could have been the difference of getting pole and not.

I don't remember who posted it but, I did a post that had a chart of the units used so far in the season for each team. I think every team is on number 5 of the max allowed new components. Red Bull is due to hit it soon. If anything happens to Rosberg or Hammy they would be on there 6th components and take a hit. Wouldn't it be interesting if all teams had to take a 10 place grid penalty and a back marker is first at Abu Dhabi? (unlikely tho)

Considering the gap between the two in Q1 and Q2 wasn't big by any stretch... I'd say Lewis is not doing too shabby a job. It's just that... as he has done a number of times this season, Nico simply put it together better in Q3.

Going to be an interesting run into the first corner. Going to be even more interesting if it rains.

I do hope it will rain, it gives Suzuka that sinister look it lacks when the sun is out.

Unless they start behind the SC :indiff:

What happens if the race is called off? Are any points awarded at all? I've read that wind speeds could be up to 150 mph.

They have to complete at least 2 laps to get half points, 3/4 of race distance for full points.

Ofcourse both can occur under SC as well.

This race can't be canceled or raced behind the SC. C'mon it's one of the best circuits of the season. :S

Damn Nature! :D

Getting up at 6am tomorrow to watch the race, I'm looking forward to it so I hope it cancelled!..

Thought Lewis lost a tenth exiting the hairpin. Exiting Casio didn't look great. I saw the onboard of Rosberg's penultimate lap and thought he's driving very tidy and will probably edge it and he did. Well done Nico at this wonderful track.

Still think the race is up for grabs if they can both get away.

Can't wait to wake up at 8 to watch 2 laps and half an hour of the Fia deciding to cancel it.

This is the current map for the Typhoon getting pretty close to knocking on the door:

Suzuka is just east of Osaka:

Currently just over 11 hours till the race starts. I think it will be windy for sure, and rain is gonna be there sometime. I hope for the whole race :D

I think Lewis might have made some time to Nico on the hairpin, his big time loss came on entry and exit of Spoon curve.

What if for next year they scrap Sochi and go to Fuji instead? If MotoGP can hold multiple GPs in the same country, why not have an additional Japanese Grand Prix? Course, this argument can be made for many different circuits and their respective countries...

Anyhow, if they decide to do this two lap SC procedure, and still go forward with a race, that must mean it'd be a rolling start, yes?

Lewis locked up on entry to the hairpin. There's no way he didn't lose time there.

Relative to Nico he gained a little, on the on board comparison they were neck and neck exiting Spoon but Hamilton lost the back end and he also had a little twitch at the end of the lap.

Lewis was hesitating on the steering and slow getting on the power out of the hairpin. You can see and hear it.

Sky F1 Said the exact opposite, he gained back time in that corner, rosberg missed the apex, while Hamilton locked up but still managed to get to the apex. He lost out in the next two corners.

Zooming out on Suzuka Shi radar gives you an idea of what's going on near the track rain wise and where the now very large eye is, pretty cool.

Yes he likely lost a bit of time but looked like he was quicker than Nico through there.

It was quite quick how he managed to get car exiting the chicane, main thing though is he looked quicker than his teammate.

I was talking about Spoon Curve.

This typhoon may not only affect Japan. If they get stuck there too long, they may have to bump Russia a week later.
