Apologies, I did not realise how much tarmac was at that point. Using the video, you can see that it is marshall post 12, which is the one dead centre of this screenshot (yes, that is #12, streetview works on circuit :D). My red line is a guesstimation of trajectory. It is shorter and less gravelly than I initially thought, but my aquaplaning point stands.

The stupid thing here was leaving a tail lift open and at eye level. Even when I see those things on the street unloading with the sharp metal edges I stay well away.

RIP

Very sad about this, I was still hoping for the best.
I'm the same age as he was, which makes it so much more surreal to me.
A great talent, a cool guy, taken way too soon.

Rest in Peace Jules Bianchi. #ForzaJules

Just heard the news. :(

RIP Jules.

A sad day for motorsports indeed. Rest in Peace Jules.

RIP Jules, so sad it ended like this, I too had big hopes for him as he gave us an underdog story that many needed when he brought his Marussia home in the points last year.

RIP Jules... We only knew you for the past few years, but you have touched the world with your attitude to life and your ability to drive a car. Your points in Monaco will go down as your finest moment. I don't know what else to say... I'm truly devastated... :(

I speechless right now. Despite it having been an ever increasing possibility I am really shocked that he died.

20 years since Senna. Almost my entire lifetime. I thought F1 wouldn't see another death from an incident in a race.

RIP

I do wonder if the FIA will review the investigation after the crash. It is surely a shock to them as well.

This is absolutely devastating news to me. Sadly, I expected this when we weren't hearing any positive news for a long time but still feel horrible.

Such a talent, I only knew of him once he got into F1 but almost immediately became a fan when he was clearly one of the talents of the backfield. His greatest achievement was giving Manor their greatest day but he could have done so much more...

Review it again?

Rest in Peace, Jules. You were taken from us far too soon.

Other than Senna, which I was kinda young at the time to remember, I never thought I would see another F1 driver death in my lifetime. I cannot believe this has really happened, such a terrible terrible waste and a totally freak accident that will hopefully never happen again. There really needs to be closed cockpits ASAP.

RIP Jules.

Terrible news :( RIP

This is the first F1 death directly related to racing since Senna, yes? I know we've had a few people die during tests and things like that but none race related to my memory.

This really is unfortunate, but I guess I saw it happening months ago because the lack of recovery. Too much timed passed for me to believe he could even get to the level of Schumacher.

Really rough for Marussia/Manor as well. I never cared for the backmarker teams, but since Jules did score their first points, and Marussia/Manor had one hell of an administration ordeal, it does flood me with more emotion than usual. In that I mean I definitely just felt that gutted feeling in my stomach when I read about it.
