Kart TT-top 3 cheating?

I guess everyone is under the illusion that adding weight hampers performance, right?
Do you actually know that adding X amount of weight to go-karts increases grip, they probably have found that magic number that gives them perfect grip. Or that number is glitched and gives them super-godlike-Chuck-Norris grip.

There's a difference between exploiting and cheating.
Exploiting is finding loop holes in the game to self benefit.
Cheating is creating the loop hole.

These guys, and every other seasonal, have done nothing but find faults within GT. To label the cheats is a bit harsh don't you think?

Agree with this. It's all part of the game so to speak. If you're not looking for loopholes in motorsport - virtual or otherwise - you must be racing in a non-competitive category.

P.S. - It's only cheating if you get caught ;)

P.P.S - Nice sig waynz :sly:

Oh yikes... Funny I've had that since Interludes said on during the F1 2010 era. Sadly he must have being a visionary because it's becoming far too common on GT5, especially public rooms :dunce:

There is a AI bot cheat. This allows a computer controlled driver to drive anywhere in GT5 you want to use them. I've seen it in action. I dont have one, and I dont want or know where to get one but its a hack mod. The AI driver can be set to various aggression degrees. They learn circuits in 5 laps or less. They become insanely fast.
OR,,,, Maybe the leaders are just great drivers.

Post of the thread for me so far...

Any guesses on how much ballast is on / where the ballast is positioned for Vega_Rider's kart? Can't ignore the possibility of a downforce glitch though.

No idea how much or where they've positioned it. I added both 5 and 10kg to the front of the kart and immediately saw a 3 second increase in my times. Others have added similar amounts to the rear, with success. It depends on how you drive. I'm a controller driver and struggle to keep the rear of karts in check, hence adding the ballast to the front of the vehicle to kill the oversteer. Others are better at controlling the rear and thus add the weight there to induce the rear around quicker.

I'd venture that if they are using ballast, it won't be much...

Just watched the replay and I must say there is no evidence that the top two are cheating. They seem very fast but maybe that's just how good they are.

All this debate and still no proof. Gotta love the spirit of competition, lol.

unfortunatley all we can really pin down is that the top 4 have a huge advantage in terms of grip that the rest of us aren't able to access

Apparently when i had a quick go on my other account and got my pad time I used TC 5 lol.

Lol. Yea, I guess we'll never for sure what really is going on. For everyone involved, I guess if you think they somehow have a distinct advantage, just take solice in knowing that you got to where you are by playing by the rules and not cheating, glitching, or otherwise exploiting a loop hole in the game. Just as a side note, has anyone reported these guys and their times. Anyway, maybe the truth will come out after the event is over. I know it will be too late, but at least we'll know what to watch for next time. I'm pretty much at a loss as to whats going on. If it was a legit setup that they are using, I'm sure someone else would have it hit upon it by now also. I just don't know. Was unaware there was 4 now tho, thought there was only two.

there is now 5, the US guy is 6th place is doing the same thing, i am now 7th:ouch:

And the extra 4 is coincidentally timed just after discussions here surrounding weight AND the mod hack, I think we have our method in one of those & my money is on the mod hack or there'd be a lot more... if the leaderboard gets flooded with epic new times then it's weight but I doubt that will happen.

If I had more time I'd go through the ballast positions one by one to see if there is a "sweet spot".

I also need to really study the replays and compare it to some slower ones in the top 10 to see what kind of apex speeds they are getting, what their top speeds are at the end of each straight, how the kart is behaving from a side on view, etc.

Then we might be able to get an idea of

a) if they're carrying ballast

and then

b) if they are, what gear ratios they're using.

If they don't correlate, then we can rule out the idea that they have a 'magic' setup.

Wow, seems more people are figuring out the secret, if you will, to getting these fast times. Interesting. Well, as it is in real life, the more people that know about something, the more likely it is to get leaked. Just like back in the day when there was only a few of us that could do 50 laps at Daytona running NASCAR on soft tires with no pitting. Everyone thought we were glitching or cheating somehow when all it was was our setup. Eventually, people figured it out. Maybe thats all this is, a legit way of setting gear and ballast. Who knows for sure but I'm sure the cat will be let out of the bag eventually.

EDIT: What is this mod hack being talked about. If its hybriding, thats not been done, and probably won't, for GT5. I have friends that have done it for the older games and have tried it for this and they say it can't be done because you can't use a jailbroken PS3 online.

I did some decent laps with a sixaxis , got in the 34's by putting some (2kg) weight to the rear. (position 50)

It seems to increase rear grip / degreace oversteer.

And putting weight to front causes oversteer.

How do you degreace oversteer. Never heard of that one, lol. (Spelling, its decrease. Just poking a little fun at ya since you guys are quick to jump on everyone else about proper spelling) Turns out no one is perfect uh, not even a mod, lol.

I noticed that the top eight drivers have their traction control set to off. I have it at five, and can't change it before entering the course or while on the course.

How does one turn off the traction control?

I was approaching a very very clean lap with my 32.5.

Adding even 2kg to front or back did change the behaviour of the kart, but I just could not carry as much speed through the corners. Even with ballast I changed the gearing as low as 62mph max, and as high as 90mph max. and almost everything inbetween.

I experimented with ballast from 2kg up to 120kg.
I couldnt go faster with any ballast.

I spent about 120laps with zero ballast and max speed 69mph getting my 32.5
Then about 300 laps experimenting to find this 'magic' setup.
I dont think it exists.

I don't know what you guys are talking about with these newer scores. Here's the timesheet as of this posting from the gran-turismo site:

1) 29.994
2) 30.043
3) 31.707
4) 32.125
5) 32.257
6) 32.267
7) 32.276
8) 32.278

There is no TCS on karts. That is a minor bug, someone mentioned it somewhere earlier in another thread :)

Correct; myself, earlier in this thread. The settings from my previous race showed in the setup against my time, but changing them by running another car race and going back to the karts did not improve my time.

Using a controller my best is a low 33, I think a 32.xxx may be beyond my skills. I have tried adding weight and tuning the transmission, first and final gear ratio and found no sweet spot. Fastest time with 2kg on the rear and only a fraction slower with 5kg two thirds of the way back. With no weight I am slower but that will be my driving style.

so i had another go in the tt event and got my time down to 33.2 with pad. Then i watched top places replays. Did you hear the sounds coming from vega's kart? WTF is that about lol? its almost like the karts exhaust is popping. how is this done lol
