Killzone 3

Did someone play it with the sharpshooter? How is it?

I have the sharpshooter. First, I have only used it about 2 hours even though I got the game and sharpshooter the week it came out. To start, you have to adjust the settings to get it to feel right. Once you do that, it is amazing! Very accurate and intuitive. I was mowing people down in the games I played. I intended to play it more but I still play GT5 way too much. I am excited to try it out on SOCOM also.

Ok these online "brutal melee" kills one can perform whilst cloaked or disguised are are literally that :crazy: and perversely entertaining to pull off I must admit.

Was going to post a youtube video, but it really is that graphic I think it is better not to. However good example videos are quite easy to find.

For those that are still paying attention, here are notes for the forthcoming 1.07 patch:

Explanation of Custom Games

Custom Games will be rolled out in 2 patches. This one (1.07) and a future patch. We don't know when this will be yet.

PHASE ONE

Phase One of Custom Games gives players the option to create unranked games with the choice of:

  • Game Mode
  • Map
  • Missions (Warzone only)
  • Mission Time (Warzone only)
  • Invite Squad members
  • Invite Enemy Squad Leader

This gives players the ability to create private matches, and playing with and against friends or a rival clan for instance. People who don’t get an invite to these games won’t be able to join through matchmaking.

PHASE TWO

We still need to spec this out, so this is subject to change, but we are looking to add the options of choosing:

  • More configuration options for missions in Warzone and Operations
  • Adjustable kill count for Guerrilla Warfare
  • Configurable Unlocks (choose which one you want to play with)
  • Configurable Classes (choose which one you want to play with)
  • Configurable Weapons, Abilities, Skills, Ribbons
  • Friendly Fire On/Off
  • Brutal Melee On/Off

That's it for now!

Thanks,
Lev

I've put in about 3 hours so far. I'm in the part where you have to go and get the comm tower up and running with only a silenced machine pistol.

Playing on a (shameless boast) 52" Sony 3D TV with a 7.1 sound system, it's absolutely awesome. Weirdly, there's a lot of left-right crosstalk in the 3D cut scenes, but the game itself plays flawlessly with no crosstalk issues. My only gripe with it is that it's a bit too bright compared to KZ2.

I love this game. Go into options, you can darken the screen from there, or just use the tv settings. Wait til you get the winter level...sooooper bright. A word of advice, before you go and get the uplink operational, find the LMG...you're gonna need it! I'm playing through on Elite now...good grief, a wee bit of a pita.

Yeah I've heard some the "on rails" sections in Elite are borderline ridiculous.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind!

I'll play through the single player, then go online.

Little jealous you get to enjoy the 3D experience, but you might also for grins give the higher resolution 2D mode a shot on sections you've already completed. Just for a fun comparison.

Re: MP, it is kinda a cross between CoD and BC. So have the hectic battles over choke points and objectives ala CoD, sprinkled together with the, at least potential, for benefits from squad based tactics. All together I very much enjoy it and if you manage to get into/create a solid squad you can really do some damage. A powered up medic, engineer, tactician and marksman in combination can steamroll their way to/thru objectives no doubt. Maybe even 2 medics depending.

Peruse the MP Unlocks summary to get a feel of the differences between the classes.

Cool, thanks. I may play some MP games in 2D just to see the detail in the levels. I can tell you that the final battle scenes are simply incredible in 3D.

Loving the MP so far. I especially like the Exoskeleton and Jetpacks being in some of the MP maps.

just finished the campaign.

WOW, what an epic ending...

can't wait for KZ 4 now :D

Now on elite... 👍

They should patch Killzone 2 with the move, same controls.

I beat it on veteran difficulty with the sharpshooter. When it stays calibrated it's fantastic, but it's bunged and doesn't stay calibrated so GG's needs to address that !

Never seen it in 3D obviously, but having played those sections in 2D I can very much see how they could be just jaw dropping in 3D.

Pro-note. On the Turbine Concourse map the JP's can be utilized to put a player running the MM class into some very interesting, and unanticipated, sniping positions ;). Just make sure to visit an ammo crate first so you are much less likely of running out of ammo :sly:.

You might want to go into the 'Settings' of the PS3 XMB and head down to Accessories, then Motion Controller to recalibrate your PSMove controller. Should fix up any issues with it.

Anyone having any issues finding games? I can't believe less than 2 months out and I haven't found one game online with more than 1 opponent, who quickly leaves! Am I just on at the wrong times? I just got my sharpshooter and Killzone 3 is the best game for it. I'm finding myself jumping back to MAG to play online.

I've been dropped into some empty maps a couple of times. And I've also been in with only 3 other players, which has been a bit crazy. It's definitely not as populated as KZ2, or the Half Life games. Hopefully MP will pick up a bit when it starts to recycle into pre-owned and platinum editions.

Seems my earlier judgement about games being empty might have been related to the Guerilla Warfare branch of the online game. Been playing Warzone over the weekend, and have been in rounds with loads of players. Score ticking up nicely now!

Oh yeah, Warzone all the way. Amazing battles of chaos at times over objectives. Operations can be cool too, but as there are only 3 maps it is just harder to hold one's attention IMHO.

Not that you asked, but if you're still undecided/confused about which class to fully rank up 1st I'd put my experienced vote fully behind Tactician. The early unlocks are slow going as your saddled with that horrible silenced SMG, but once you get the M82 unlocked your lethality increases greatly and over just about every range. If I had to do it over, I'd go M82 1st, Recon++ 2nd and then Tactics++. The side benefit to keep in mind about Recon++ is that those flying sentries are great at getting you assists. After 5 assists in one round you get the "bullet damage" ribbon which means from then on you can start taking adversaries down in potentially 1 less bullet. Nice little bonus to have ;)

After that rank up other classes as you see fit or fully rank up the Tac's 2nd-ary weapon so you can roll with the VC9, which can take down a Exo with 1 direct hit.

Believe me I've done that many times. I've already given up on playing KZ3 online with the sharpshooter because of this and went back to Reach, Crysis and CoD. You'd think they playtest before release!

Cool, thanks for that. I've levelled up the Engineer, so I've got the Turret++, which has been good for assists. Last night I was playing Marksman, having good fun with that, although not for long enough to get any assists. I'll give Tactician a go.

NP. Also wrapping one's mind around the combat ribbons is worthwhile as well. Basically each ribbon is like an instant weapon upgrade. So immediately after it is earned the bonus remains in place for the rest of the game. Well except for the Double XP ribbon which only nets one twice the experience for 60 seconds. For reference here is the ribbon list:

INCREASED ACCURACY Increases weapon accuracy for all weapons by 25%. Reduces the spread for bullet weapons. Get five melee kills to earn this ribbon.

BULLET DAMAGE Increases bullet damage by 25%. Get five assists in a single round to earn this ribbon.

FASTER AIM Enables players to aim down the sights of primary weapons 50% quicker. Get 5 kills while zoomed in to earn this ribbon.

FASTER RELOAD
Enables players to reload faster. Get ten kills without using zoom to earn this ribbon.

Obliviously the bullet damage is useful for every gun so make sure you always have a turret in play. For AR & SMG classes, getting the faster reload is naturally very useful as well. Maybe not quite as useful for an LMG though as you aren't reloading as much. Since you like the engineer here's a couple of useful videos with tips on playing the class.

Quick note on the Tac though, keep the radar up as it also works for your teammates that are within its radius. Very helpful team play tool.

For warning - Not Work Safe Language

Edit...
Oh yeah, and MM is great fun :D. My only issue with MM is given the nature of the strengths of the class it is too easy, for me at least, to get lost in racking up kills and not helping with an objective. But come on, invisible stealth kills... what's not to love about that?! Plus the animations the made for getting hit by the VC32 are just priceless as well .

Since you guys have been discussing the Move controls, here's an all around excellent video analysis of the Move in KZ3 MP.

Almost makes me want to get one. Looks like once you get used to it the Move in this game is a superior control method actually.

I'm loving the campaign so far. I should've hit the sack an hour ago, but I couldn't stop playing it. 👍

Edit: Completed the campaign, very enjoyable, just too short. When PSN is back up I'll check out the online multiplayer for this and Crysis 2.

I've started to use my unlocks to bring all player classes up progressively rather than being a specialist in one class. The reason for this is that I've spawned into games where literally everyone is playing as Marksman or Tactician, and the squads just aren't making any progress. I find it's then better to adopt one of the alternative classes to bring some capability to the squad.

I've had several bullet damage ribbons, which really help with bringing up a round score. And last night I picked up the first medal for turret kills.

I'm trying to figure out the relationship between multiple turrets. Sometimes when I set a turret, one I'd previously set blows itself up. I think there's a proximity thing going off, i.e. if the second turret is too close to the first, the first blows itself up. But in some cases this distance can be quite far. It's a little frustrating since I was trying to set up firing alleys where the two turrets could essentially be working together.

As far as I'm aware, you could only place one turret yourself. One turret per engineer to a maximum of four. If you placed a new turret, the old one was destroyed. The only way around this is by hacking enemy turrets, this would allow you to break the limit and have multiple turrets working for you. This is what I have found so far. It's a shame not many players use engineers, as I would love to hack more turrets! :D

I got this game last Saturday and I'm liking it a lot. Been playing as an engineer because I noticed that not a lot of people do, leaving the enemy to claim the turrets and ammo boxes. Some games I do nothing but hack stuff. 10/10

This.

A note for all guns (at least all ADS guns), when ADS the very first bullet you fire WILL be perfectly aimed. So if you are good at aiming, then getting head shots with that first bullet is the strategy to have.

New DLC is coming. It will have 4 maps. Two them are show in this link:

Just ordered this today. Only getting it at the moment for the move support as I enjoyed the demo with it. It works and its fun. I have not finished Killzone 2 but I may try to do that Sunday and Monday.
