for those who have GT4 can they please tell us if its possible to change from KMH to MPH. i understand there is a thread at the top of the page but 50 pages to sift through, its a bt excessive.

Have you guys considered that it could very well be regional... meaning the US will get MPH and most everywhere else will get km... not sure what the UK uses still? Silly miles like we do in the US still? You will more than likely have what your country uses, if thats your concern. And if not... its just 1.6km to 1 mile ;)

Why would the japanese need to change km/h to mph anyway ? If it's not in the JPN version, maybe it will be in the PAL / UC versions.

The US needs to stop using the Imperial system... its so stupid... 5000 and something feet to a mile... hell I live here and I don't know it :P

well does anyone with the game actually know?

I'm in Canada , and I think Kmh is much better. Part of it being the numbers go up faster and makes the car seem like it's accelerating real fast too ahahahha :P

Several years back the school systems did a big push to teach the metric system. Supposedly the parents got in an uproar or some stupid junk and it died. Now those kids (me) that understand the metric system are wishing we were using it and we're slowly becoming the ones in charge. Don't be too surprised if you start to see more changes to metric in the coming years.

The problem, though, is that there's more too it than just the speed of a car / distance traveled. Nuts, bolts, screws, tools ... everything like that is measured with that system as well. Weight, volume, mass ... if you were to switch you'd have to switch everything at the same time. The old system would linger for several decades while products that used it slowly broke down and are replaced.

But I'm all for it.

I think in metric for hardware, tools, small distances (mm, cm...) from my time wrenching on Japanese cars, but I can't break 23 years of coding in my brain for miles, or gallons for that matter. someone says 100mph, I have an instant association in my mind with that speed, but I still have to think about it for a second if I am given a speed in km's.

with an aviation background, I am actually more comfortable with knots then km... (1.15miles = 1 nautical mile)

I hope you be able to change to MPH from KMH in the UK version of GT4 because we use MPH over here in the UK.

i live in vancouver too, and i like metric cuz it adds up with sense.

10mm = 1cm
100cm = 1m
1000m = 1km

it adds up easily with zero's, not like weird awkward numbers...12" to 1ft...5000+ft for mi? wtf?

indeed. the miles/foot system is wierd.. just like driving on the right hand side of the road (having the steering wheel on the left side of the car).. :P

as if i'm going to shift with my right hand!

all these little things should be uniform throughout the world.

that includes u, NTSC AND PAL!

For the UK version like all past GT games, it's more likely to based on the European version so we're probably looking at km/h again. 👎

Didn't people say that the GT4 demo's had this ability... surely they'd carry the feature towards the game itself...

I'm in a Km/h country but I'd rather play the game in MPH, there's something magical about 200mph, 322km/h just doesn't cut it...

Same, I know Miles etc. are really impractical but 200mph is such a better barrier than 300kmh (yes the 22km makes a difference!).

@theRukus I've driven both drives, I actually find right hand shifting more natural even though I've only driven in a LHD car 4-5 times.

What makes 200mph better than 300km/h?

The GT4-demo didn't offer to switch between mph and km/h, it offered the choice of switching between Japanese and English language.

EDIT:
Hang on, it did! My bad, I didn't remember that, so I just looked it up. But as far as I know GT4 doesn't offer that choice.

What makes 200mph better than 300km/h?

Well for a start 200mph is slightly quicker than 300km/h :sly:

But it's more than just that... 200mph is a figure that use to have real significance, it was a figure that 'defined' quick.

300km/h is the new 'metric 200mph' in terms of significance...

322km/h = 200mph I know but...

Call me old school, but I just like to see that gradule climb (in most cars...) toward that '200'

i like mph then kmh it dosent make me think of the speed that much cause then i wont have to convert kmh over to mph
Ok, but you can imagine that it's just the other way around for me cause I'm used to km/h, right?

I get your point guys, 200 mph is that little bit quicker than 300 km/h, and it's kind of more exclusive cause it's harder to reach.

Cheers,

400kph milestone is even harder to reach :D

Btw I wish I had a car that could do 200mpg ;)

i really hope PD leaves the KPH as an option on the US version, people outside the US in the american continent all use KPH, and that's the version we get to play...

they didn't do this in GT3, hopefully they'll realize this for GT4.
