Lack of American cars

I would definately like to see some of the muscle cars that were ran in the Trans Am series of the late 60's, early 70's.

While I agree that there is a large lack of American cars, there is also a huge lack of European cars as well. I get that PD is Japanese so there is going to be a obvious bias towards Japanese cars. But do we really need all of those Miatas, Skylines and civics? Same goes to those weird concept cars and hybrids. WHY IS THE PRIUS IN THIS GAME??? I would've liked to see a few more Mustangs, which I admit I am biased to because I have one and it is my favorite car, and Camaros. But really the list of cars, both Euro and American, that should be in this game but aren't is huge. Still a good showing but a little disappointing.

Also, those comparing the 2011 Mustang and M3, you keep forgetting the price. Why can't people admit that America has started to make some pretty decent cars lately? We all have no problem saying it when it's European and Japanese, but the second someone says "hey, America is making some pretty good cars" people go into a pissy fit?

IMO... I think PD should've given us some more American race cars from different racing series. I'd love to see the American Le Mans Series Pratt & Miller Compuware Corvette C6R, The Grand Am Series Stevenson Racing Camaro and Maybe some Indy Racing League cars.

I know all of that is way easier said, then done, with all the legalities involved in getting race cars and race car sponsors into a video game. It would be cool though...

As far as the American cars we have in the game now... I'm American but I think most of the cars from this country are complete garbage. We have the Corvette ZR1 in the game that we can make into a GT1 spec Corvette. Thats cool! I don't like that new Camaro in real life but I bought one in the game the other day and made it into a pretty good looking car that performs pretty well.

We need some more premium Euro cars in the game IMO. The new Aston V12 Vantage, Ferarri 599 GTO, VW Scirocco, Ford Focus RS 500 (I know.. It's an American manufacturer but the RS 500 will NEVER happen here in the states.. It's a Euro car to me) and a ***Porsche 911***! I know that's a WHOLE 'nother discussion for another day...

(No actual quotes because no one is singularly responsible, and not everyone in here was acting like a child. If you happen to be trying to figure out which one of these represents you, you've completely missed the point.)

Aside from the fact that no game's car selection will ever make everyone happy, this is what happens when you spend time on economy cars in lieu of sportier and more-historically-significant cars. But removing the economy cars will just make other people unhappy, and won't fix the problem anyway. Even Forza 3, which is clearly more focused on sportscars and exotics than Gran Turismo, still misses dozens of popular cars (even after umpteen DLC packs).

The best we can all hope for is that PD "drops" as few cars as possible in future GT games. I think we can all agree that losing your favorite car from one game to the next is more frustrating than never having the chance to drive it in the first place.

If PD spent their time making sure that everyone's interests were observed we would've never seen this game. Now as PD are a Japanese company, and as GT is a Japanese game, it's hardly surprising.

Have you been to America and seen how common these cars are in the affluent areas? A pretty big proportion of the people that can afford them and actually care about how their cars drive buy them. We're not all driving around in Chrysler Sebrings (though I'm sadly closer to a Sebring than an M5) because we don't know any better.

And the majority of those are automatics or the tiptronic-type manuals. Heck, there are even more Corvettes made these days with automatic transmissions than manuals. I had a dealer tell me one time that manual transmissions are being phased out in the US over time...not sure how close to the truth he was, but not a single pick up on that lot had a manual transmission.

Shifting seems to be getting in the way of us drinking our $7 lattes and watching American Idol on our headrest mounted DVD players.

BTW, in my state, don't need a license, and it's in the console, not the glovebox.

Unfortunantly by the time both cars (Assuming your talking about the newer CTS V that is actually a freaking missile to rival anything to come from MB / AMG) were on the market, they likely didn't have time to add even more cars in. Gotta draw the line at some point, notice how most cars are 2007-2008 when it comes to new, very few 2009-2010, no 2011's outside of perhaps one car.

It's like saying "Shame on you PD for not including the 2012 OWIEJR Punjabav12.4 Concept! (Insert real car name in that place)" Because they really could do that, right?

I absolutely love it when people try to point the blame towards Americans as the reason why manuals are dieing, that we're too lazy to shift gears. Part of that is true, but we are far from the sole reason.

Last I checked, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Pagani, Koenigsegg, etc. are all phasing out the manual & going to DCT/Paddle Shift transmissions as well. And the mainstream auto makers in Europe such as Renault & Fiat will be following suit. What's the reasoning there, or can I go ahead and assume the Europeans are too busy being lazy, too?

OK, this might be a bit ''off thread'' but seeing as there are alot of american car fans looking at this I thought I'd let you know about a car I've just picked up from the used car dealership.

1990 Vette ZR1 (C4)

I think this was affectionately known as or referred to in a car review as ''king of the hill'', but I'm not sure..??

Anyway, I've been playing GT5 since release day and I've been very methodically checking used car dealership after every 3-5 races and this is the first time I've seen it in there.

It's standard road car.

Also, the viper concept road car can also be found in used, but it's a little more expensive (1,000,000)..

Hope this is good news for any fans/enthusiasts who read this...??

I'm not a fan of Cadillacs at all, but the 4-door V and the coupe would have been a blast. American counterparts of the M3, M5, Audi S5, RS4, MBZ E63 AMG, etc. Throw in the CTS-V wagon and we'll have something to compete with the RS6 Avant in the ridiculously overpowered wagon races. I'm still hoping we'll see a lot more cars added to the game.

There SHOULD BE more american cars than there currently are in this game.

I mean do we seriously need the stupid IMVEC (the dumb electric Mitsubishi car) 2 Toyota hybrids and a Honda hybrid as premium cars? Not to mention like 4 Miatas , 2 mini coopers , 8 skylines? , 2 suzuki swifts list goes on forever.

I just don't understand the logic they used to put the prius in as premium but not the new mustang / CTSV etc etc.

EDIT: Also when comparing say a Mustang to a BMW M3 why do you guys never take price into consideration? What kind of BMW 3 series can you get for 30k. Highly doubt you are going to be getting an M3 for that money.

Just looked it up, Base price for a new V8 Mustang is 30,500 US and an BMW M3 is 58,125 US. The cheapest 3 series coupe you can buy costs 37,000, and you get 80 less horsepower than the $22k base Mustang

Comparing these cars are silly............. i would hope for twice the price a BMW would better than a mustang.

the new CTS-V does 0-60 in 3.9 So yea it is the fastest sport sedan out there. It is a beastly car and strangely absent.

I think people complain too much about this.

Considering:


-There are all the different Ford GTs that they push us to play at the top level, probably expressed more than any other race-car in Prologue and somewhat in GT5.

-The American Indy track is the best way to gain exp and cash per minute in the game.

-NASCAR is in the game, OUR racing federation.

-A lot of the different American cars have different models. They included lots of skylines that all look the same.

-In America, we drive loads of Japanese cars; I see them more than American cars.

-In a Detroit Auto Poll, 44% of Americans think Japanese cars are the best, 29% say United States and 15% say Germany. Most people think Toyota is the best. I also drive a Toyota Corolla S and Toyota Camry.

-Most people that I've asked, think the box look of American muscle cars is ugly. I think the newer Mustangs and whatnot are changing that idea though.

-American cars mostly aren't American, especially not anymore.

-American car manufacturers have or are failing.

-Considering in the future we will all be driving Chinese cars and doing Chinese everything, who cares lol. Sucks for Japan, Europe and the US.

-I have heard of most all cars in this game and I know all the Japanese cars in it, but I haven't even heard of a quarter of the American cars people noted here.

-Best car, Red Bull X1, is technically European. Not Japanese.

-Best production car in the game when it comes to HP/Top Spd is said to be the Bugatti Veryon. Not Japanese.

-They said that they mostly worked with Nissan by far the closest on this game before it even came out and said that it would have the most cars, it shouldn't even mostly count towards the Japanese/European/US count.

There is an enormous lack of premium American cars. Of the 220 premium cars probably only 25 are American.

I am happy though that PD fixed the handling of the Ford GT from GT5P where it was near impossible to control. Now its the beast it is in real life in the game.
