Lego! Damn, I still have hundreds of complete sets totalling thousands of dollars worth from my previous years as a child. It's a pity I still have them but need to keep dismantling them to fit them in the store room, as it takes forever to find all the pieces that went to a given individual set.

One day I'll acquire the last few sets I need in order to complete my favourite Lego System series; the Exploriens, Adventurers and Aliens. 👍

man, i used to be a lego god i swear. i started messing with those mechanical star wars ones (R2D2 would move itself), then i started improvising. First i made my first car: 4 wheels, one wheel drive. Then i started messing with the gears and drive shafts and stuff; then came 2 wheel drive, it was so awesome but i couldnt stop there. After hours and hours of trial and error, i created my first and only 4wd. The motor wasnt quite powerful enough to propel itself from a standstill. With a push start, it would go. Makes me wanna get back into it.

Ah, Lego. It is still my favourite thing to play with, whether I am bored or not. Currently, I build 1950s-era jet fighters in 1/144th scale (approximately) and post-war propeller planes. I am glad that Mega Bloks, while Canadian, never killed off the firm. The upstart company also seems to use an inferior type of plastic for blocks.

Hello guys I'm thinking of getting the Lego - Star Wars Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon. its a bit pricy £350 and I am 26 years of age lol but it looks so good to miss, and it would be a great project for the next few weeks while I'm on holiday.

  • With over 5,000 pieces, this is the biggest LEGO set ever made!
  • Model is built completely to minifigure scale - minifigures can sit inside and man the controls!
  • Landing gear provides a stable base for model to stand on!
  • Ship is over 33" long, 22" wide and 8" tall! (84cm long x 56cm wide x 21cm tall)
  • Radar dish rotates and elevates and boarding ramp extends!
  • Top and bottom quad-laser turrets rotate for realistic play!
  • Cockpit top can be removed to access minifigures!
  • Includes 5 minifigures: Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa!
  • This special set also includes a display card with detailed ship specifications!

I don't know if i should lol.

One of the guys I work with is planning on grabbing that as well.

I can't wait until my kids are old enough... :D

Anyone going to get the 50th anniversary set?, its a remake of the original Town Plan set and comes with 3 gold bricks and a letter from the head of Lego who is also on the box and was also on the original one 50 years ago as a little kid!

I thought it may be worth getting as I used to be such a fan of Lego as a kid.. its like £90 :scared:

I got that set last week - It's worth every penny. There's just under 2000 pieces in it, something that isn't easy to see, but easily felt when you build it and move the buildings (and cars, no less) around - they are heavy! And it's a set that looks good on the shelf too.

Oh, and this is also coming out next month:

I would love to buy some big Lego sets but I just don't have the room for it. I used to get Lego for every Christmas and Birthday. I wish I still had it all, might be worth a bit of money.

Does anyone else get the feeling they have too many hobbies?

Not really, this feeling is often reserved for consecutive jobs or events. And, one tends to think they have too many hobbies if they have too much work.

On topic, the local toy store stopped selling Lego...

Three very nice sets posted these past few days, and they are all on my shopping list - well as soon as I find them discounted. I've already spent too much on Lego this year - almost £500 ($1000) in the last 7 weeks!

On topic, the local toy store stopped selling Lego...

A common problem these days. In the past few years the Lego company has modernised its distribution channels. Where they used to cater mostly to the small shops, they now tend to favour the big box stores. I have seen countless independant toy stores stop stocking Lego as they can no longer get hold of it.

Meh, Lego has kind of jumped the shark with the 5000 different themes. And the Bionicles are just pointless.

No wonder you are the Rational Responder...

Does anybody think that Lego as a company should follow a certain theme? Certainly Lego Technic has done that for the most part.

Like what? City? Star Wars? Castle?

The mainstay are the creator, city and technic lines, as evidenced here, and just about anything else they're free to experiment more or less. Bionicle sold well the past few years, and basically kept the company up during their bad years, so I have no problem with that. Castle has gone fantasy, with undead, orcs, gremlins and dwarves, but I have the impression that it's selling, which is the main purpose of the theme, so no probs there either.

All the small themes Duke is referring to have been short-lived. Exo-Force is on it's last year, Vikings died last year, Aquaraiders is dying, Mars Mission I have no idea how it's going, Agents haven't even been released, and then there's all the licensed themes (Spongebob, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Speed Racer), first two are going strong, while the latter two are new this year. Racers, specifically Ferrari and Tiny Turbos have been around for years now.

Anything that doesn't work, TLC will kill off. The rest stays. That's just sound buisiness.

Latly, all they sell around here is those damn cheap megablocks which are HARD AS **** To get togeather, and they never come undone, their cheaper plastic, and nothing ever works for me... I've broken peices, and everything! Than you have the kiddish megablocks that are litterly MEGA!

I was thinking something similar to Mega-Bloks; at one point they sold mainly kits of actual vehicles, such as the Ford GT set. However, come to think of it, that would be almost pointless; model kits already do that.

I've loved Legos for a good part of my life as a young lad. It began for me back in about 1992 (at least the first Lego catalog I've gotten after my mom bought me a Lego set. My creativity can really shine as I was coming up with as many things to create. I even had so many Legos that I had a bucket and stuff I used to carry all of my Legos. For a while, I still have all my Legos in a huge Tupperware tub. I look at Legos now, and they have REALLY gone along from the time I've gotten into Legos. You're now seeing more branded material as well as much more complex Lego sets. I used to be scared of video games when I was younger. But even at times, I was playing with Legos like I was playing my Nintendo. Created fist-fights with the little Lego people and stuff. Most people have had Army Men as toys. I've had Lego people as my toys. I didn't get many of these, but there were some Technic Lego sets I've had. They were much more complex. One time for Christmas, I got the "Central Precinct HQ" set for Christmas or my birthday once. I remembered as a kid watching the Lego commercials back in 1993 or so. Talking about "Crazy Charlie" escaping from Jail. It was a real dream come true to get and assemble this kit. The more sets I collected, the more fun I've had. It's just great stuff.

I may think about opening up my old Tupperware tub of Legos and try to make some stuff now that I'm older (25).

FUN FACT: The year 1993 was when I first had aspirations to do 3D animation after seeing the "Reboot" series on ABC.

As a joke-turned-adventure, my brother and I assembled an AK47 assault rifle with a working sliding bolt and and elasticized trigger. Did not actually shoot, though, and it was rather flimsy. Those were the good days.

A couple of my friends bought me a Lego Star Wars AT-ST for my birthday. It's been years since I've built anything out of Lego and it was awesome! I'd love to get some big sets if they weren't so expensive.

I get some lego from time to time for something to do, not much of a range anymore though.

Sounds like a good idea. It seems that Lego is more fun to play with along with bigger ambitions for the result.

Petroleum prices, eh? I feel the same way. Model kits are being killed in that way, too.

I stay small nowadays, mainly in aviation.

Well... I couldn't find my other thread so this was the next best place.

Anyway, From inspiration for an HDTV stand I present the HDTV iPod Touch.

 Thats cool!

Lego is so damn versatile... I own shed loads of it as I asked for it ever birthday as I was growing up...:sly:

Yeah, I wished I kept them together but they're all mixed up in big fishing tackle boxes. lol

Hmm... wonder if it's too late to ask for Legos still. xD

My mum never let me mix them up  so they are all still in thier original boxes with all the manuals.

So, I kinda went out and bought a Lego X-Wing a few weeks after that post. :D

Had a Technic craving. I haven't bought a Lego model for roughly nearly a year and a half, but there aren't any big models I really want; I quite liked the look of this though, and as it's quite cheap (for a Lego model) I went ahead and got it.

Not as many pieces as I was expecting, but they built up into a decent little model:

The next model I'd like is the dirt bike to pair with the red superbike I got last year (or was it the year before? I forget).

It's not Technic, but you might also like this one when it comes out later in the year.

I stumbled across this a few days ago while random Flickr browsing. He does really good replicas of classic shots using Lego. Clicking on the pic takes you to the full set.
