Venus is closer. 38 million miles versus 54 million for Mars. Who knows if we'll make though, ha ha. Chances are our ship is going to get stuck somewhere between Earth, the Moon and Venus.

Online race distance does add up to the cars mileage in most cases (it doesn't immediately show up though, only after changing to another car it does or a while later after auto save) but strangely online practice sessions do not it seems.
Cool. I hadn't changed my car yesterday when I checked. Perhaps I'll do some online stuff tonite, change cars, do more driving, turn off my PS3. Maybe it needs to reset the game for it to happen.

No the game doesn't need to reset or the PS3 turned off, just change to another car or do some other stuff which activates the auto-save and the mileage will usually be added (again I believe only the race distance, free practice doesn't it seems although I might be wrong).
I say usually as sometimes it doesn't for whatever reason, just another little glitch I reckon.
Let me provide another 67,534 (ish) miles to the grand total! I knew all those times setting my mum out on the 'Ring when im at school would turn useful eventually. Lol
29,187.4 Miles... My Olds' Cutlass Supreme (real life) had almost gone to the moon. It's around 200,000 Miles I'm pretty sure, and it's still going strong.
