I am at the bottom, I believe. I even burned Ramen and popcorn. But I can make eggs....which seems like a phailure though my omelet to day seem kind of down due to the fact not enough ingredients. That or the meat I used wasn't cooked enough.

Yeah, I just wanted to expand on what I know..so I might take on a recipe...But, who knows.

Whenever I make something new, I follow the recipe to the letter. After that, if I decide to try it again, I'll make changes to it - different/more/less seasoning, etc.

+1

I tend to do that aswell, then change it a bit at a time to suit my tastes better.

Any recommended recipes?
Food is like music - what one person likes, another will hate... or at least not like as much. :p

Some websites let you pick some of the ingredients and will give you recipes accordingly. That said, dig through some recipes, see what you like and go for it!

Good luck! 👍

Generally with a recipe, I look at the recipe name, the ingredients and go from there. Some techniques I have yet to learn. Doing it your way, even with a set of ingredients is more fun, you will learn quicker.

It sure is... and if you ever need some wind instruments, might I recommend a bowl of my chilli? :O

Speaking of which, I made some chilli on Sunday night, and have just finished it now... pretty good, even if I do say so myself :D

Ingredients:
  • 1lb of minced steak (or enough for 3 large or 4-5 medium servings)
  • Fresh chillis (small ones and green ones are hottest, 2 is average, 4 is hot!)
  • Half a large onion
  • 4-6 segments of garlic
  • Half a yellow and half a red pepper
  • Half a large courgette
  • Mushrooms (as many as you want)
  • Two cans of whole tomatoes
  • Half a can of kidney beans
  • Tomato puree
  • Mixed herbs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cheese (grated)
  • Sour Cream (do NOT attempt this without the sour cream!)
  • Paprika/chilli powder (optional)
  • Rice (optional)
  • Sugar/chocolate (optional)

Method:

  1. Finely chop the garlic, chillis (keep the seeds if you want it hotter!) and quarter of the onion and gently fry in olive oil for a minute or two (to 'flavour' the oil), and then add the meat. Mix thoroughly and continue frying until the meat is browned. Add the rest of the onion and the rest of the veg (peppers, courgettes, mushrooms etc.).
  2. Add the tinned tomatoes and chop them (in the pot) coursely with a big, scary knife... add the kidney beans and mix the whole lot thoroughly and add about 1/4 to 1/2 a tube of tomato puree. Add salt, pepper and herbs at this point too...
  3. Cook on a medium heat to reduce the liquid a bit, and lower the heat as you go (as the mixture gets more heat into it, you can bring the gas down). Taste it, add a few things if necessary (salt, sugar, chilli powder, pepper etc.) and leave to simmer for as long as possible
  4. Serve up with rice, grated cheese on the side, and loads of sour cream (the hotter the chilli, the more sour cream you will need!) and that's it 👍 It keeps in the fridge or freezer for ages, and makes an ideal lunch with either toast or a baked potato, as well as just eating it on it's own with a bit of sour cream and a nice cold beer :D

The whole thing costs quite a bit to make fresh like this - about £15/$30... but it will feed 3 hungry people, or 4 normal servings - and you can make it exactly as you like it (gets better with practice ;) ) and is infinitely better than anything you can make with a "Chilli" mixture or a jar of chilli sauce, IMHO... you can also serve it with guacamole, nachos, bread etc. if you have more people to feed...

Omnis, can't you use marinara sauce on the pizza? That's what they use isn't it? Also, on my pizza I would prefer a little more cheese and bunches of pepperoni.

Here's a recipe I helped make last night; an improvement on canned baked beans.

You need: (from memory, so it might be a bit off)

1 large can of baked beans
1 small can of kidney beans
1 small can of butter beans
1 pound of bacon
1 pound of ground beef (or whatever ground meat you prefer)
1/2 of a medium onion

Steps:
1. Cook bacon. Doesn't matter how (we pan-fried it). Drain off the bacon grease if you want.
2. In bacon grease (or not), brown ground beef. Get it into pretty fine chunks; a little bit smaller than what you would use for taco meat.
3. When beef is almost done, chop up onion and toss in. Let onion saute for a couple minutes while beef finishes.
4. Get rid of any grease that's left, and put the bacon and beans into the pan.
5. Get to a boil, then sit and let simmer for a couple hours, tasting occasionally.

Pretty easy, and really, really good. Never had it before, and was pretty surprised at the results.

Just found this on Facebook: a dessert fit for a student. This could be ages old, but it's new to me.

5 minute chocolate cake

The What

  • 3 tablespoons self raising flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa (I used hot chocolate, tastes alright)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 3 tablespoons sunflower oil
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) for a moist cake
  • A small splash of vanilla extract
  • Cream / Ice cream

  • Cereal bowl
  • Tablespoon
  • Fork for mixing
The How

  1. Add flour, sugar and cocoa to a bowl and mix well.
  2. Add egg, mix thoroughly.
  3. Add oil and milk, mix again.
  4. Add chocolate chips and vanilla extract, and mixy mix mix.
  5. Put in microwave for 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on full power. The cake will probably rise over the top of the bowl.
  6. Add cream / ice cream, consume.

Just tried it myself, and it makes quite a large portion - probably best shared between 2. The quantities might need a little tweaking depending on how generous your tablespoon is (try rounded off rather than piled high). The perfect pudding to wash down your beans on toast / 8p noodles.

It works. Probably a butter substitute or something.

Well, it's a fat so it will. It's cheaper than butter too, so that's why it's used. Just bemused at the flavour it would give.

TB -

I shall put up my chocolate log recipe soon, I'll get you making logs!

hahaha, loving that TB :D
This tasted good:
load of chips, that cajun seasoning usuallly used for meat, salt, pepper and ketchup, and cheese, snd a lttle bit of oil
1)cook chips in oven in a bit of oil, with some cajun seasoning and salt and pepper in the oven for however long
2)sprinkle grated cheese over the top and some ketchup (optional)
3)enjoy
It tastes goood 👍

I have a mad cereal recipe!!!

Its a little different though, first you pour the milk, fill the bowl about half way then poor the cereal of your choice until there is mountain of cereal on top of a white ocean. Then you take a spoon and eat!

 I needed a shot NPH just reading that.

I just ate some Stouffer's spaghetti, stuff is awesome to the max.

Ever try their Mac & Cheese? Killer. 👍

few things i made today:

Salmon marinated in Chipotle Salsa(very good, and very spicy)

Brown Sushi Rice(made with brown sugar instead of white, apple cider vinegar instead of rice vinegar, and *duh* brown rice instead of white)

homemade hot chocolate(three different kinds. one with 92% cocoa, one with milk chocolate, and one with white. it was too damn good)

For the Salmon, it needs to be 1 lbs. of Sockeye Salmon, and needs to marinate in half a jar of Arriba! brand chipotle salsa. add what ever seasonings you like, and bake it for 18-20 minutes. eat half and save the other for this:

for the sushi rice, take 2 cups of any short-grain rice(i made mine with brown rice, since i lacked other ingredients, but here's the real recipe), and 1 cup of water, and pour both into a large saucepan, and just let 'em soak for 10 minutes. no heat whatsoever. now, once the water is kinda murky and smels a lot like rice cakes, go ahead and bring the water and rice to a boil, and once it boils a lot, cover it and let it simmer COVERED for 13 minutes. oh, and also, DON'T MOVE THE LID UNTIL THE 13 MINUTES ARE UP! YOU'LL RUIN THE RICE IF YOU DO THAT! anyways, once the 13 minutes are up, using a small hand fan or just a small electric fan set to low(or if it has no settings, just put it about 2.5 feet away from where you're mixing the rice), and a wooden spoon or rice paddle, mix in 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons of Supafine sugar, and a pinch of table salt. mix that separately, until the salt and sugar have dissolved in the vinegar. now, start mixing the rice, while fanning it, or with the electric fan on, adding the vinegar, sugar and salt mixture in small amounts, every minute or so. once it starts to look really sticky, and has trouble falling apart, you'e done. if you have a sushi mat, this can be done really easily.(yes, i'm telling you how to make sushi, instead of just the rice.) take a sheet of plastic wrap, and put it on the sushi mat, and lay down a sheet of toasted nori(the seaweed that they use), and spread some of your sushi rice over that. now, once you've done that, take whatever ingredients you have(like the Salmon, or anything. hell, i've put a hotdog in there with ketchup, mustard, relish, and jalapenos, and it was still good, and still counted as sushi! btw, if the piece of toasted nori is like, lets say, 6 in. x 4 in., this next bit should help: ) on the first bit of nori(like 6x1.5 inches), put down your ingredients. it can be wider, but that would mean a longer roll. roll up the entire thing, a little past where you stopped putting ingredients, and cut it right there with a mid-size, sharp knife. remove the plastic wrap, and congratulations, you've just made sushi!

Do you have one of your special fire alarms in your kitchen in case you burn something? Or do you have another special product for that?

5 minute chocolate cake

*snip*
Alright. I just made this, with a few modifications. I don't have any self rising flour, so I just used plain old all purpose flour, but I can't imagine that it makes that much difference. I, like Roo, used hot chocolate mix and replaced the sunflower oil with vegetable oil.

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical while I was mixing it and to be perfectly honest, I wasn't a fan of the smell (I think I may have added a touch too much vanilla). After cooking for 2.5 minutes, I added a scoop of ice cream and let it melt. The cake is now half gone and I must say... well done, Roo! 👍

My one suggestion would be to add the chocolate chips after you're done mixing everything in otherwise you get a glob of melted chocolate in the bottom of the bowl.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Solid - Your fudge is next on the list. If I make it to the grocery store and remember to grab some powered sugar, that is.

I had left over steak with some potato wedges mom cooked up. There was also some mac n' cheese and a few other things. I ate like 1000 calories worth of food. Now I'm in the mood for some of Roo's cake, to bad I'm lazy.

You're not lazy; you're in a caloric coma!
