hey guys, i just bought Gran Turismo 5 for the 2nd time (the first i got bored) and i just wanted to know what your approach to the licenses are.

should i get all the licences first, then start racing, or get only the licence i need.

I'd start with the licences but you can do it however it you like. The licences are not necessary in GT5.

Nice thing about doing at least some of the licenses first is that you get some cars to work with without having to spend a dime. You get one each for all bronze or better, all silver or better, or all gold.

You can also get a total of 3 cars for golding each overall license available. There is one car for each medal level of a completed license, but they can only be won ONCE each.

That way, even though you have to buy at least one car to start the game, before you can do anything else, you can build up a nice "free" garage to start the game off with, by golding as many licenses as you can. 👍

EDIT for having slow fingers today: Apmaddock and I are on the same wave length. ;)

Mix it up, a few A-spec, then a few licenses, then a few special events.

Don't wait too long to do the licenses, as once your level gets up there, the experience points earned are hardly noticeable. I am happy to get a silver on most, rather than spending 10 times as long to get the gold.

Also, credits are super easy to come by now, but restrain yourself from using overpowered cars on tires better than the AI, as that takes all the fun out of it.

Agreed with elric. I like to use cars with a PP of about 90% that of your toughest competitor, and often the stock tires on the cars (sometimes worse)

I also agree with Elric:
I started out with the first 2 license series, then quit on the 3rd because I was finding the tests a bit frustrating so I went off and just played the game for about 2 months. I did the A-spec events up through Pro (I think) and spent a lot of time in arcade mode setting up races and time trial events, just basically getting something (I can't put words to it) out of my system. Then I went back and ran through all of the license tests again - the tests actually meant more as I recognised the tracks and the situations I was put in so I was able to take the tests more seriously and I got a lot more out of them.

Apart from the free cars, they're also a good way to brush up on your GT5 driving skills.

Edit: Forgot about the SRF.

They all have mandatory SRF.
I have stayed clear of them for this reason.
People say they're a good way to learn driving techniques. If you plan on driving with SRF, maybe. If you plan on driving without SRF, these tests will only set you up with some cars and XP, teaching you some bad habits in the process.

I think that if u want to play online u should first gold all licenses ;) U will learn how to drive clean and not shortcuting.
That would be cool. No trolls in online lobbies.

I've still got mostly bronzes, yet I'm clean and competitive.

Am I troll?
