I am more than likely being hard of thinking, but I can't see a way to use a created livery across multiple cars. Can it be done or do you have to create for each car?

Many thankings of you in advance

Could be possible but maybe not directly in livery editor and it'll probably be a simple livery.

Have a system where you tell it what goes where on the car.
  • Hood - A red stripe, brand logo
  • Roof - a red stripe
  • Left - Black stripe at bottom
  • Left Quarter panel - brand logo
etc, that can be applied to any/most cars. System would scale logos to fit automatically

Cars that have identical areas should be allowed to be copied as entire sections. It can be a new section in the Livery Editor and only areas that are identical would be accessible with the others greyed out. Like you said, the RS01 is a car that is almost identical in both forms. Same with the Toyota GT86 and GT86 GRMN, and to an extent the Gr. 4 version.

And another thing all together, they should allow you to select individual body panels for painting but that might involve coding for every individual car. Worth it though.

Allow, but not force. It's already hard enough sometimes to align decals through hood or others to the body.

It's not possible and it's massively unlikely that such a feature would do anything other than make a horrendous mess of the livery... to the point where you'd probably spend more time trying to fix all the mis-alignment problems, than you would just starting again.... or they'd have to limit the functionality so much that it'd basically be worthless.

It'd be a useful idea, granted, but it's not going to happen.

I have a livery for myself that I use for everything I race in the FIA Sport races. Granted it isn't very complex but I created a favorites folder that has all the necessary decals and lets me recreate it on any car in about 10-15 minutes on average.

I recall in Grid (and I think DriveClub has something similar) that there is a sort of "default" livery that can be set with user-defined colors. You'd set say color 1 to red, 2 to white, 3 grey, 4 black and your base paint comes out red with white and grey stripes with black sponsor decals. It was one of those "good enough" features back in the day and I wouldn't mind seeing PD implement this so that at least the base liveries could be customized.

I remember the favorites folders not working properly before. I would select a decal and a different decal would show up. Has this been fixed?

I have not had any issues but I only started using it at the end of December-ish. Possible if you're still having issues you may need to recreate the folder?

I'll try again but I was hesitant to because sometimes selecting certain decals would crash the game and I didn't want that frustration lol

I can understand how a full livery with carefully placed decals and logos would be a mess when transferred across vehicles. I would think that paint schemes would be fairly simple to apply to different vehicles, which is all I wanted to do. I assume that the way they built the editor, these features are interlinked, so we have to live with it.

Can someone explain how...or even is possible that I can save someones customs livery. And apply it to the exact same car in my own livery?
Thank you

Once you find one you like, either in game or on the community site, click on "add to collection". That saves it for you to use.

To change to it, in-game go to home > garage and change to the car. When you get back to the home screen the third (I think) option is "change car livery". In the dropdown on top right select "library" (?, the second option) and you will see the saved liveries for that car. Select the one you want and click OK to apply it.

Grid had this system and it worked quite well, sure the liveries were basic but for most people it was a quick way of creating a team identity.

Skinning models for games is a tricky business, before all these WYSIWYG editors people had to create skins by scratch. I did a bit when I played Live for Speed back in the day. You had to download the templates and place decals in Photoshop. You had to manually shape the dceals to compensate for the shapes and curves of the panels and match up decals across the various sides.

Each skin is unique to the model it represents, think of it as a tight-fitting suit for the car. A GT-R shaped suit isn't going to fit an Audi R18 etc. Using LFS as an example here's two skin templates:

This is how the game sees your livery, as a flat image, not as indiviually placed decals. If you carefully make a livery to fit one car shape, its not going to match up with another.

The modern livery editors still work on the same basis and create a skin in the background you just don't see it (Unless you game glitches like that guy who saw the skin preview for his Corvette).

NFS 2015 is a great example of why you can't share liveries across cars, why they allowed this feature is beyond me.

how many liverys can you down load? I have been downloading some for the alfa Gr3 road car but I down see them is there a limit?

I did some investigating last night and there doesn't seem to be an advertised limit as there is with downloaded decals (1000). If anyone finds a limit please post!
