Hello guys
I'm new to the forum but I'm a long time GT5 fan.
I recently got a G27 just to play with GT5 and I was seriously disappointed by the performance of the wheel.

Basically I've got forcefeedbak but no vibration if I hit a curb / brake hard / drift.
I can get some vibration only if I go over curbs while not turning the wheel at slow speed.

My ffb is at 10, mode is on simulation and I don't use power assist. Also I race with all the settings turned off.

Is this how the wheel feel for every one? Is it just that PD messed it up or is my system not working properly?

Because I get more feedback from my ds3 shock gamepad than from the wheel and I'm seriously considerating to return it to the shop. :ouch:

Thanks to the ones who will answer me! :)

No but I was considering getting F1 2012 as soon as it comes out (should be in 2 weeks) and try the feedback there, still I would like to enjoy GT5 if possible.

For example drifting is impossible now, I don't feel the car when then tail comes out so I'm just doing donuts all the time. With the DS3 I could at least drift all around Tsukuba with no problems at all. :(

I'm sure someone with a G27 will post at some point, I have DFGT. Not at home to check, but maybe see if there is a demo racing game you can d/l and try.?

This is called clipping. Clipping is the same with speakers. If the waves reaching the higher voltage than max the waves will flatten out at the top. Your ffb motors and speakers can not do more than 100% power.
What is really needed is Gt5 gives more adjustments to ffb.
This is the reason why you can only feel the curbs vibrations when you are not turning. As you turn the wheel the software is telling the wheel increase power over 100%.

For example if GT5 is already telling the wheel to turn 150% (50% more than the motors can do) then add curb vibrations at +25% to -25%.The range would vary from 125% to 175% and since the wheel can only do 100% you will feel no difference.
You must turn software ffb so the wheel isn't max out which seems almost impossible with GT5 as even ffb set to 1 is too strong for the wheel.

( Fanatec wheels :Always lower the ffb in the software and keep the wheel ffb set to the 100% to avoid clipping)

Thanks Zoom, very clear explanation. 👍

This means that I spent 200+ bucks for a wheel that does not work properly in general. Ahm..:grumpy: I knew it was not working before the 2.00 patch but I thought problems were solved.

If this is the case I will return the wheel to the shop and possibly get a DFGT or just ask for full reimbursement.

Is DFGT also affected by clipping so hard?
Anyone else with a G27 not feeling curbs?

I'm quite disappointed to know that a "theoretically" supported wheel is not supported at all..!

Also thanks to Infinital, I will try do see if I can get any game demo to try the wheel with and I will post a feedback here (for future racing generations you know )

Edit: Playstation Store is down for us in Europe now.. argh!

Yes the G27 has been this way at least since 2.0,still love it though. I play every day,in fact I just upgraded to a momo wheel, longer paddles,GTeye brake spring. Now thinking about getting a T500rs and wondering if it would be better. Although I'm pretty sure the DFGT will be a down grade.

All wheels are subject to clipping (just like speakers) yet the more powerful the ffb motor the more it can meet the demands of the software. G27 or DFGT ffb motors is not as strong as the more high end wheels like T500RS. If you want stronger ffb then it will cost you.
It's very common for software to demand more than the wheels can produce on high settings. It's not uncommon for me to set the PC games software ffb strength down to 10-30% to avoid clipping.

Added: a Buttkicker will help feels the curbs even though it also has it's limits. Buttkicker like a sub woofer cut off at 160 HZ.

Thanks again Zoom And Beast

You mean this thing?

Anyone with DFGT?

Yeah. I have both G27 & DFGT. G27 is the better wheel.
Another thing to note is ffb heavily depends on the software. You can buy a $1000 steering wheel to play Gt5 and it's ffb effects would still fall way short of playing Iracing with a DFGT. It's the simple fact Iracing is specially designed for ffb wheels while ffb is an afterthought on consoles games including GT5 and Forza 4. Often ffb is one of the last things the developers add to a racing game.

Thank you so so much Zoom, you really helped me a lot!
I'm wondering why they don't open a Zoom! Q&A Corner on this forum.

I will keep for the moment the G27 and I'll see if I can live with a non state of the art FFB or I will revert to old good DS3.

I would say that with G27 I'm definetly 1 to 2 sec faster but with DS3 it is much much easier to control the car when the back of the car comes out.
I guess it is also because I cannot turn the wheel as fast as the DS3.

Thanks again Zoomy, you really saved me a LOT of time and frustration.

Ciao!

So, just to post a follow up, I just got F1 2012 and the G27 is working perfectly. The vibration is back and The quality of the feedback overall is very good.

The conclusion is: Poliphony (or Sony) messed up with the feedback of the G27 wheel. They should learn from Codemaster who apparently doesn't even need a thousand of updates to have one of the most selled wheel working. Unbelievable!
