I think the Badminton players shouldn't of been DQd, it's just a strategy to take advantage of the flawed tournament setup.

It was pure gamesmanship all round - they were attempting to take advantage of the circumstances (i.e. the results that had already happened), not the set-up per se, but in doing so, they made a mockery of the tournament, their sport, their teams, and the people who paid good money to watch top sportspersons performing to the best of their abilities. Hopefully this will teach them a lesson - that it's not all about winning, but taking part (and winning) with dignity.

The Men and Women team Sprint finals are today. First one is at 6PM

Just watched Ki Bo Bae win the Gold in the Women's Archery. She beat Aida Roman in a single arrow shoot off.

First of all, please excuse me for my grammatical errors, English is not my native language.

I disagree with the decision to DQ the badminton players, why? because in my opinion, those 8 players are already gone through to the next stage, logically, they already "win THE match" using their best efforts, and did not need to do anymore effort to win another (there's no point in winning another, they already gone through right?).

In racquet sports, "match" is a very specific term.

In their groups each pair had won two matches. In the third match they did not give their best effort to win, breaking the rules of their sport as I quoted above. This resulted in a disqualification.

Given that the results of that match determined the seeding for the next round, yes they did need to play it.

And completely oblivious to the entire forum, GB has another silver medal in judo.

To be fair though, it's not surprising we got a 1-2 in canoe slalom - in a country where rain happens a lot, we'd be expected to perform on the water!

Just watched the judo!, it was fantastic!!..and i thought it was going to be a quiet day for team GB today!! :lol:
 
I think Zhang will get gold in the Table tennis. That's another Gold and a Silver for China.

Terrific Women's Beach Volleyball match just ended, won by the USA's Kessy and Ross. They ended on a 7-3 run, spoiling three match points for the Spaniards along the way in an exciting third and final game I've never watched Kessy and Ross before. Well done!
 
When I hear about the badminton DQ's, all I can think about is this (sorry, wasn't on YouTube, really wanted to embed).
 
Four world records in the cycling in the last hour - GB, China and China in the women's Team Sprint and GB in the men's Team Pursuit.

I don't think this is cheating or disgrace, this is pure strategy. And trying to lose so that I don't have to defeat my own compatriot early is also a strategy (national strategy I must say?), and nothing wrong with that IMHO. I don't have problem with that at all. In fact, they were not really trying to lose, they have already won and gone through remember? they're just using the extra match to gain advantage by choosing the opponent, IMO it's smart, not cheating.

Now about the angry spectators, in my opinion it's their own fault in the first place for watching that match.. what do you expect from two teams that already gone through? nothing! of course.. that match didn't matter.

Nope, as said before this isn't strategy. Its one thing to not give your entire effort, (Take a case of Nadal in the first round at a GS Open. Odds are he could go 70% and still win) its another to blatantly give no effort whatsoever and make it clear you are missing shots to influence the draw. These two teams did the latter. If I was a fan there I have all right to be angry if the competitors are not giving their all.
 
And a fifth - for GB Men in the Team Sprint.

Edit: And now they've DQed the other women's team to set a Team Sprint WR today, gifting the gold to Germany...

Team GB miss out on a medal chance as the Women's cycling sprint team are disqualified from their race... it will be no consolation, but China have just done the same thing, and will lose the gold medal as a result...

Yes - it was set in the heats. And then again in the next round. The final wasn't anywhere near either mark (nor Team GB's earlier one).

The Chinese set the WR legally (as did GB), but both were disqualified from later rounds, so the records will stand... I can't remember if China also broke the WR in the final, but that would be wiped if they did...
