Is the terminology different in the US?

Probably. This distinction has been in place in all Olympic canoe/kayak events since 1924.

Canoe: Kneel, single-bladed paddle
Kayak: Sit, dual-bladed paddle

Is the terminology different in the UK?

Its to do with the paddles used, canoes have a single bladed paddle where as kayaks use double bladed paddles. Famine is correct though about the seating.

A 5th Olympic gold medal for Sir Chris Hoy

And a new World Record!

Gold in the mens team sprint!!!!!! another WR!!!

Breaking their own WR from the previous round

Now let's see if their changes were legal...

Stunning performance. Clearly didn't cheat like the women either.

Every day in the Daily Mirror they have printed a guide to tell you when members of team GB will be taking part, in what sport and at what time..i was looking at it this morning and nothing really stood out and i was thinking to myself 'it'll be quite a quiet day for team GB today then!'..and we have ended up with 4 golds and 3 silvers!! a very quiet day then!!

So another sitting down medal for us fellow Brits.

You have to admit though that Sir Chris really is a boss.

He is that... but to be honest, he makes most of us sitter-downers look bad.

Terrific Women's Beach Volleyball match just ended, won by the USA's Kessy and Ross. They ended on a 7-3 run, spoiling three match points for the Spaniards along the way in an exciting third and final game I've never watched Kessy and Ross before. Well done!

I was hoping for at least a 29th Match Point, but then again, I'm a dirty old man.

The USA are closing in on China in the medal's table... just one gold in it now, and the US are ahead on total medals...

Soni and Clary, back to back gold!

Question, do you have to dribble (like basketball) in handball?

Live streaming screwing up.

Will Lochte be ready for this 200m IM after his dissapointing backstroke final where he only bronzed. Fancy Phelps, just because.

EDIT: Phelps wins the IM, and his 20th olympic medal. Great swim to beat Lochte. 3 successive olympics too!

Another one for Phelps then!..this is getting boring now!!!

American 1-2.. Domination much..

20 medals, won the 200m IM 3 times in a row. Astounding.

Now let's go Missy!

I am finding swimming a bit dull now, the same people keep winning.

GB womens hockey level top with Netherlands after dominating Belgium 3-0. If the girls weren't so gorgeous i'd say to just give them the gold medal now and spare the other teams the embarrassment!

Not exactly like Basketball if I recall correctly. It's a dribble every several steps, not every 1 1/2 like hoops. I'm no expert, but if a basketball player dribbles, say, 10 times when running the full court at full speed, handball would require about 4 over the same distance?

Disappointment after disappointment for the Australian swimmers. Everyone buckling under pressure. Depressing.
Well, at least we have witnessed the greatest Swimming athlete of all time.

No medal for Missy.

I heard that they're adding new tickets for events the day before they happen. If this is the case, I'm going to see if I can get something.
EDIT: This is the worst website I've used. You pick tickets that are available, then you have to check if they are available??? Then wait 3 times as long as it says to check if they are available for your request to time out.

I know its not really news but there is no way that Nigeria was trying. They lost 156-73.

Did you see the game? USA were amazing, greatest points haul in the history of the Olympics.

But its not really a competition against Nigeria. That's why I'm saying its not news. Only one Nigerian had over 10 points.

I guess, but it was still entertaining to watch the pummelling. More noteworthy was GB almost beating Spain, now that was news.

There were two Nigerians in double figures, Diogu and Oguchi.

I just hope that our lack of true big men doesn't come back to hurt us when we start facing real competition.

I feel your pain dude, earlier this week I had 4 tickets to the 200m final all reserved and ready, all I had to do was put in my mum's CC password (was her account)... which she forgot. I've got tickets to the Tennis on Sunday but after driving past the stadium at night this week I really want to see some Athletics there.

One sided games are really boring, USA steadily lowered their quality of play to the point where it was almost casual towards the end.
