I didn't enjoy it too much. Maybe I missed out on a lot by not seeing the first one.
Where the hell is Frodo traveling to, and why?
In the first movie Gandalf's first wife gave Gandalf a Ring ("The Ring") and it slowly corrupted Gandalf until he realized that only Hobbits were immune to it's effects.
They knew that it had be be destroyed in the Fires of Mt. Doom, which is where Gandalf's wife came from originally.
So Gandalf told Frodo and Sam (who are lovers btw) to meet him at the prancing pony (an Inn) where they ran into Merry and Pippin (also gay.) They also me Strider there. At the same time Gandalf paid Boromir, Legolas and Gimli 1 thousand pounds each to help him escort the ring. (Along the way, they all become friends, and they give back the money.)
At the end, in a very representational scene, Bormir made advances at Frodo for the Ring (as it was corrupting him) but realized his mistake, and sacrificed his own life to let Frodo and Sam escape. (by grabbing one of those giant gun powder bombs, and running headlong into a throng of enemy Urukai)
Aragorn (same person as Stryder, they change his name halfway through), Legolas and Gimli realize that Merry and Pippin (who were captured) know too much about the mission to destroy the Ring. They decide to hunt down and kill them before that information gets back to Sarumon.
And that's basically the first movie. You should definitely see it.
