Everybody please cross your fingers that the Dodgers will beat the Rockies in their series because the cardinals are only 2 games back

Let's see how the Houston Astros resumed this AL West road trip. They took on the first of the two California AL West teams when at the Oakland Athletics. Here's how this one ended up...

GM1 HOU at OAK: 9-8; Oakland
GM2 HOU at OAK: 11-1; Oakland
GM3 HOU at OAK: 11-4; Oakland
GM4 HOU at OAK: 10-2; Oakland

You may remember we got swept at the sorry Chicago White Sox earlier this season. We get swept by another bottom feeder playing spoiler. Games 2 and 3 were part of a doubleheader. We probably felt we scored enough to take the AL West. Nope! The Astros are now 86-57 on the season. Can't win 'em all.

Up next for the Houston Astros... after failing hard to Oakland, an important series kicks off tomorrow night as we're at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. LAA is 2nd in the AL West, who we lead by 13 games. A series win (or even a sweep) will keep Houston strong in the AL West race. HOU just can NOT fall apart at this stage of the season.

Houston's off today, but congratulations to any and all winners from tonight's games.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, meet the Houston Astros of Houston. The three-game set in Anaheim, California, USA was a big one for the Astros in trying to maintain a decent lead in the AL West. Here's how our tangle ended up:

GM1 HOU at LAA: 1-0; Houston
GM2 HOU at LAA: 9-1; Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
GM3 HOU at LAA: 5-2; Houston

I found out that Astros' pitcher Mike Fiers was banned five games for throwing at former Astro Luis Valbuena after a bat flip. The Houston Astros are now 88-58 on the season so far.

Up next... the Houston Astros will host the Seattle Mariners this weekend for a three-game set. This will be the first of three straight series at home. So the Astros will enjoy playing at Minute Maid Park for this series followed by series against the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim before hitting the road again to close out the month of September.

...Cleveland been ballin' lately. 22 straight wins, including a walk-off win last night? Winning multiple games is hard in baseball. Doing north of 10 straight is even tougher. But wow- Cleveland is beast!

Enjoy the weekend series, and good luck to all of your favorite teams.

Tigers are doing a damn good job of being dead last in the AL Central and probably will be last for at least the next 2-3 seasons. Safe to say that Detroit sports are screwed for 2018 since the Red Wings (Hockey) don't look good either and the greatest hope for the city is the Lions.....

Seattle paid a visit to the Houston Astros this weekend for some weekend baseball. And... this is how things wrapped up:

GM1 SEA at HOU: 5-2; Houston
GM2 SEA at HOU: 8-6; Houston
GM3 SEA at HOU: 7-1; Houston

The Houston Astros are your 2017 AL West champions! We actually could have clinched last night, but the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim won last night. The Astros had to win against Seattle yesterday followed by LAA losing. Still, the Astros won the AL West. Our record is now 91-58.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... we take Monday off and then host the Chicago White Sox starting on Tuesday as our home stand continues.

Here is a look at all of the teams that are IN! as of the time of this post:

--- AL East ---
* Cleveland Indians (clinched AL Central)
* Houston Astros (clinched AL West)
--- AL Playoff Spot 1 ---
--- AL Playoff Spot 2 ---
* Washington Nationals (clinched NL East)
--- NL Central ---

--- NL Playoff Spot 2 ---

Expect this to all change as the season winds down.

Congratulations to all series winners as well as today's winners.

Royals OF Alex Gordon just hit the 5,694th home run this year. That home run just set the record for most home runs in a season. The 5,693rd home run (tied the record) was hit by Tigers OF Alex Presley.

The Tigers announced that Brad Ausmus will not return as manager next season.

giphy.gif

Bout time they got rid of him. I know it's not 100% the manager's fault when a team fails, but given the players, he had to work with before the fire sale this season he should have done much better over his tenure.

Even Ausmus agreed that he needed to go. I'll respect him for not bitching about the fact that he's not returning and actually accepting his fate.

Rapid fire summary of the Chicago White Sox at the Houston Astros:

GM1 CHW at HOU: 3-1; Houston
GM2 CHW at HOU: 4-3; Houston
GM3 CHW at HOU: 3-1; Chicago White Sox

And as for tonight, we won 3-0 oveer the visiting Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. We are now 94-59 on the season after our latest series and tonight's win.

The postseason begins October 3.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Houston Astros series summary:

GM1 LAA at HOU: 3-0; Houston
GM2 LAA at HOU: 6-2; Houston
GM3 LAA at HOU: 7-5; Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Houston Astros are currently at the Texas Rangers for a three-game set. The Astros are currently 95-60 heading into tonight's game.

So who's IN for the Playoffs? Let's find out:
* ~~~ AL East ~~~
* Cleveland (AL Central champs)
* Houston (AL West champs)
* New York Yankees (clinched berth)
* Boston Red Sox (clinched berth)
* Washington (NL East champs)
* ~~~ NL Central ~~~
* Los Angeles Dodgers (AL West champs)
* Arizona (clinced berth)
* ~~~ NL Wild Card 2 ~~~

If your team(s) is/are still in it, don't give up! There's still hope!

Good luck to all of your favorite teams.

I really like when baseball players do things like that an interact with the fans.

Also, it reminds me of the time when Prince Fielder stole a chip from some dude's nacho plate after making a catch in foul territory from 1st base.

Jon Lester goes the opposite direction and yells at those damn kids on his lawn.http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/...m-for-cubs-on-night-of-good-news-better-vibe/

Society these days, Lester makes $25,000,000 this year and his ERA+ of 99 is below league of 100.:embarrassed:

The final series for my Houston Astros is a four-game set at the Boston Red Sox. Before that, we went up north to meet the Texas Rangers. Here's how that one all went down:

GM1 HOU at TEX: 11-2; Houston
GM2 HOU at TEX: 14-3; Houston
GM3 HOU at TEX: 12-2; Houston

Usually, it's TEXAS whipping us that bad. This here, though, is what we like to call "flipping the script." So we swept Sanji Himura's Texas Rangers to improve to 98-60 on the season.

As I mentioned previously, the Houston Astros Baseball Club is in Boston for the final series of this regular season. After winning last night at Boston, we are currently 99-60 on the season. Best we can do is 102-60; worst we can do is 99-63. If we win one more game, the Astros will have won 100 or more games for only the second time in team history. The last time we went north of 100 was back in 1998.

Elsewhere and meanwhile... time to update the "Who's In!" list. Latest as of the time of this post (source: Yahoo! Sports):

* ~~~ AL East ~~~
* Cleveland (AL Central champs)
* Houston (AL West champs)
* New York Yankees (clinched berth)
* Boston (clinched berth)
* Minnesota (clinched berth)

* Washington (NL East champs)
* Chicago Cubs (NL Central champs)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (AL West champs)
* Arizona (clinced berth)
* ~~~ NL Wild Card 2 ~~~

The regular season ends October 1.

That's all. Enjoy the final regular season series!

If the Yanks and Sox end up tied then there will be a tie-breaker game Mon. in the Bronx. The loser would then host Minn on Tue.

Cleveland has home advantage over Houston if they end up tied.

Rockies magic number is 1 for the 2nd WC over Brewers. If they end up tied then they will have a play in game in Denver on Mon. The winner goes to Arizona for the WC game on Wed.

Overall top seed
The Dodgers have a one-game lead over the Indians for this one, and the Astros are two games out. That means the Dodgers lock up overall top seed -- and thus the right to host any deciding game -- with any combination of wins plus Cleveland losses that add up to two. (The Dodgers hold the tiebreaker over the Indians.) If the Astros win out, and the Dodgers and Indians drop their last two, then the Astros hold the tiebreaker over L.A. Winner of top overall seed gets to play a potential World Series Game 7 at home.

All settled now, no play in games needed.
World series home field advantage order.
1. LA
2. Cleve
3. Hou
4. Wash
5. Bos
6. Ariz
7. Chi
8. NYY
9. Col
10. Twinkies

ESPN (of course) will show the Min/NYY WC game, TBS has the NL. ALDS/ALCS will be on MLB network and FS1. NLDS/NLCS will air on TBS.

Cleveland has the best pitching in the AL and will beat Houston in 7 and the Dodgers will beat the Nationals in 7 games.

After WINNING their final game of the season, Cincy finished out their amazing year going a fantastic 2-10 in their final 12. Their overall record on the season was an incredible 68-94. Yay, Redlegs!

Quick review of my Astros' final series of the 2017 regular season, when we took on the Boston Red Sox in Boston...

GM1 HOU at BOS: 12-2; Houston
GM2 HOU at BOS: 12-2; Houston
GM3 HOU at BOS: 6-3; Boston
GM4 HOU at BOS: 4-3; Houston

The Houston Astros finished the 2017 season with a 101-61 record. Based on what I saw from the schedule, we're going to face the Red Sox in our ALDS series. So I'm sure the Red Sox will want revenge against us after we defeated them in a four-game series. Astros and Red Sox go at it here in Houston starting this Thursday.

The 2017 regular season is OVER! Here is one last look at how all of the teams finished their season. Teams listed in bold are playoff teams.

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE ---
AL EAST: Boston (93-69), NYY (91-71), TB (80-82), TOR (76-86), BAL (75-87)

AL WEST: Houston (101-61), LAA (80-82), SEA and TEX (78-84 each), OAK (75-87)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE ---

Two seasons had to end with the Wild Card action. Today begins the Divisional Series. Ten teams entered, and we're now left with eight. The New York Yankees bounced the Minnesota Twins out of the postseason in the AL Wild Card game with an 8-4 victory. The NL Wild Card game was won by the Arizona Diamondbacks taking out the Colorado Rockies 11-8. Today...

* Boston Red Sox at Houston Astros <<< C. Sale (BOS) vs. J. Verlander (HOU)
* New York Yankees at Cleveland Indians <<< S. Gray (NYY) vs. T. Bauer (CLE)

Today's all about the ALDS with this pair of Game 1's. Tomorrow will continue the ALDS, but also starts the NLDS. The NLDS will see the Washington Nationals host the Chicago Cubs while the Arizona Diamondbacks will be at the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 1 of these respective series.

Good luck to all remaining teams.

Reading that ESPN link, doesn't seem like there's much of anything going on with it. Not really news worthy, IMO.
If I had a dollar for every press conference were somebody claims they are innocent and yet they are lying I would be very rich.
