Hmm.

Let's take Ron's side here, just for a second. What if the 'team' were batting this info around, but Ron didn't know?

Interesting situation, no?

Well I’m convinced that this is the case. However the sporting regulations say the boss is responsible for the ‘team’, and I’m honestly surprised someone didn’t alert someone a little higher up in the management ladder that all of this was going on.

Personally I think that Alonso's reputation is now in tatters. I mean, after threatening to lift the lid on all the secrets of the scandal, if he leaves it just begs the question: who would want to employ him after trying to blackmail his team boss into making him no. 1? Alonso just seems to be acting like a spoilt brat.

Indeed, however he is a fast driver and works really well in an environment where he is the clear leader.

Of course, Renault still want him back. Symonds loves him, and Flavio realises the value there as Heikki needs some serious competition to help him develop further as a driver.

Of course he had, he just didn't give them up until he was asked twice.

Hamilton replied to the FIA’s request with a response along the lines of “I have nothing relevant to submit.”

Hm. I read he did somewhere. Anyway, the last thing I'd do after watching this scandal is believe that Hamilton has -nothing- to do in this.

If Alonso and De la Rosa were the only to give up evidence, that doesn't mean they were the only ones to be involved. Just means they had the guts to betray their team (a very dirty move IMHO), but I still believe they were the tip of the iceberg and they're getting all the **** and bad stares now.

What were you going for? Cheerleader?

It would be funny to see you with your pom-poms, flashing at the cameras and throwing dirty looks at the grid girls.

It's funny because it's true. :D

Actually, I'm a student of engineering design (i.e. I can make things happen, instead of being a felt-tip fairy) and I took courses in composite materials and their application in manufacture.

I considered working for Reynard, but even as a student, it would have halved my income. After a bit more poking, I decided I was too good for them... my pom-poms were far too colourful. :D

He's also very experienced in developing and working on a car.

But you do realize Renault wouldn't want him for Kovaleinnen's sake, because Alonso stated he wants pensionaire Fisi as his parter?

It would seem to me that Alonso doesn't like his team mate to be any competition to him at all.

It seems to me that De la Rosa was the first to know about this from Coughlan since they are reportedly good friends. De la Rosa took a leap of faith and brought Alonso in to the whole thing (big mistake).

Alonso's behavior to me is just insane, if things aren't going his way for one minute, he burns every bridge he has ("I'm alone at Renault", "F1 is not a sport", "McLaren love black people"), ok that last one is a joke :) but it wouldn't surprise me if he had said it.

And now with this extortion thing he was just insanely selfish, in a moment of rage he completely threw De la Rosa "under the bus". Sure, Alonso can always find another drive in a competitive team no matter what his persona is, but De la Rosa's career is probably over.

The problem with Alonso is that he needs everyone to pay attention to him. And if they don't, the temperamental Spaniard inside of him gets all worked up, he shoots his mouth off and expects someone else to pick up their pieces.

And I just realised that if Alonso wins the title and leaves McLaren, the Woking outfit is going to be on the wrong side of the Thirteen Line for the first time (there's 24 cars on a full grid but no-one runs the number thirteen for obvious reasons; cars 1-12 are the teams that are doing something right, while cars 14-25 are those who are going badly. The Thirteen Line is what separates them). Heck, they'll even be forced to carry 24 and 25 though next year (even Prodrive will be ahead of them!).

And no matter what happens they’ll be the smallest garage on pit-lane for all of 2008. :indiff:

Jean Todt has spoken up saying that Ferrari are unhappy with the penalty, and they believe it was a very soft penalty...am I the only one not surprised?

What more do they want? They already got what they want (which was McLaren being guilty) and its still not enough for them! Who the 🤬 they think they are. A mother 🤬, 🤬 sucking 🤬 is what i call them. If its so much trouble, why don't they 🤬 off and start their own racing series? I mean they then get to control everything!!!!
:grumpy:  🤬

This has been irking me ever since they started saying it on ITV's coverage.

As I understand it, if Hamilton or Alonso win the drivers' championship and stay with McLaren for 2008, then McLaren will have numbers 1 & 2 for 2008 and will be allocated the biggest pit garage for 2008 races, regardless of the constructors' championship. This is the same reason McLaren have cars 1 & 2 and the biggest garages this year, because Alonso won in 2006 and moved to McLaren for 2007.

Or am I misunderstanding this?

Drivers' Champion gets car 1 and pitbox 1, with teammate getting car 2. Numbers and pitlane order then progresses down the Constructors' Championship final table.

Not at all.

I must say, for once I agree with Todt. Well, sort of. If McLaren did something to make their cars illegitimate for the constructors championship, then I can't see how a driver can be allowed to use that same car to compete in the driver's championship. The punishment should have been both or neither. But that's just my opinion, and I know many believe the punishment as it stands to be fair.

EDIT: However, at the same time, it is this kind of aggressive legal action, often from Ferrari, which has turned me off F1 racing, alongside the FIA's decisions which seem to me to always be based on keeping TV viewers tuning in rather than actually implementing their own regulations. I'm not interested in watching any team cheat to win, but I'm also not interested in watching a team win races in a courtroom (or governing body board meeting, to be precise).

Well, paper talk suggests Nico to McLaren as Alonso's replacement...so please god be true...that is the one move I want most of all...couldn't care less who goes where other than that...well obviously as long as Lewis stays at McLaren too.

A little bit. And actually one of the few times where Famine is factually wrong ( ).

The winner of the Constructor's Championship always gets first choice of pit box. You'll note that the first pit box is currently occupied by Renault.

You know, I spotted that on Sunday and wondered about it briefly. But, primarily because I fell asleep, I never really thought about it.

Red Bull stated they will not leave any of it's drivers in the dry, as they have a contract, and are going to respect it.

But didn't Red Bull boss once said that he wanted a rookie and a experience driver in both of his teams?

As far as I'm aware, both Williams and Rosberg have said Nico's staying put. Even when there were rumours of Rosberg going to Ferrari, the same was said. If he's passing up the opportunity to go to Ferrari, I doubt McLaren will be able to lure him away from the Frank 'n' Patrick show.

Is there any chance that Alonso will stay at McLaren.
If not what about him moving to Toyota, Ralf is doing crap and Alonso got on ok with Jarno before, or why did Jarno leave Renault?

If he stays then Ron Dennis will leave. Except Ron has been at McLaren for, what, 30 odd years or something silly like that?
