McLaren in GT4: Welcome to the Party or Uninvited?

If i remember rightly, the 241mph top speed was in the lower powered prototype' XP5' at Nardo in Italy, I don't think anyone else has tried a full production F1 there, but i expect the top speed for the production F1 to be nearer 250mph.

Nope, the XP5 was a little more powerful, it lacked the catalyctic converter or something, the standard F1 was tested and hit 232Mph, or 231.xxMph rounded up. Theres no way a standard F1 will hit 241Mph at the Nardo.

I was wrong, XP5 wasn't less powerful - it wasn't more powerful either, it had its rev-limiter removed thats all. Also it was Ehra-Leissen not Nardo as i originally stated.
In a way this is like the Veyrons supposed top-speed, as in you have to take your car back to VW to have the top speed limiter taken off so you can top 186mph. I'm sure any McLaren owner can take their F1 back to Macca and have the rev limiter taken off as well meaning that any F1 road car (apart from 'winged' versions) could theoretically do 241mph as well.
 
Right, I knew the XP5 is the same as the road version but with one small change .
 
Im sure that an F1 owner could do a bit more than 241. That test IIRC was done on a very hot day, and Im fairly sure the motor lost a few ponies due to it. If an owner were to go to the same track in cooler conditions, maybe a few more Mph could be coaxed out of the v12.

I've heard of 240 mph when I first heard of it, Eagle. For a moment, this thread had been a bash fest on it, but for sure, the McLaren F1 is can't miss. And if enthusiasm for such a car compares to McLaren'sAngel's very first post here, then to put it in the game is pure sweetness. I like this car because it has killer speed, while being incredibly controllable. It is a Formula One race car with the heart of a powerful BMW V12. Do any racing modifications and it can win almost any circuit race. It's no drag racer even though it can do 0 to 60 in 3.2 or 3.4 seconds to a top speed of 240 mph. And remember. Road race cars don't make great drag cars. It can compete on a worldwide scale- and it has already done. You may not see it raced much anymore, but I'd love to see it re-engineered and rethought to continue to be the best car in the world, but it needs to edge out the Ferrari Enzo so that no one forgets the McLaren F1.

When the JGTC comes to Fontana in middle December, we may see the Yellow Corn team in action there with its F1. And for you Californian folk (who I envy because of all the good weather you get (78 Farenheit with sunny skies in the summer)), you will get your fill of JGTC action. McLaren lovers will probably see the downtuned F1 go around and around. So I'd invite the F1 with an invitation. "Hey McLaren F1! Party with PD! Plenty of refreshments, great music, pretty girls, and photo shoots and such to get into GT4 and whet the palates of PS2 gamers and racing fans alike. Accept the invitation. You will not be disappointed.

And since its showing in pictures, disappointed is the LAST thing anyone should feel about it.

Yes! I cant wait for JGTC to come down December 18-19!!! :O:O But I dont think I can go...becuz I dont know how much it will cost and being in California, I sadly dont know where the California Speedway is. :eek: but there could be some hope since the other day I was on the freeway and saw this sign "Race Track" with an arrow pointing at the next exit. :odd: :odd: I could be closer to that actual track then expected. :O:O:O
I really luv the Mclaren F1 for how it is! :O:O I would just luv to touch one and take a picture with it knowing I will never own one :O:O:O But Skyline looks alot more "seeAble" in my mind! :O:O ooOoo srry McCutey, I am not worthy enough to have jooo... ;_;
 
Since you're nuts for the McLaren F1, McLaren'sAngel, here's a "challenge" for you. If you can get pit access, try to get your picture taken with the Yellow Corn McLaren F1 team. You know, you in the middle in your shorts and sandals or whatever, and then the Yellow Corn ride behind you. Get any race queens, extra credit. You up for this?

Anyhow, I guess that's all I wanted. Just a little laugh, little challenge... reply on.
 
I think the Mclaren team now run Prodrive Ferrari 550s. Apparently parts were getting a little hard to find for the Mclaren, plus it was an old chassis.
 
Prodrive in Japan, mate? The car was pretty awesome to see on track there. It may have been downtuned, but watching JGTC is a thing of beauty. Drama, suspense, cute/beautiful race queens, and challenging Japanese circuits. I remember the Lark McLaren, but I never seen JGTC race until Speed Channel came up with "On the Limit" coverage of JGTC in 2002 or 2003. Since then, I was hooked.

But now that I think about it, the Lark McLaren from the series would be a nice addition. And I think around this time, JGTC cars actually exceeded their 300 and 500 hp limits (which made it better), so the Toyota Supra had 680 and used all 680 to whip the Skylines in 1997 (sorry to attack the Skyline, SkylineGTR_guy and McLaren'sAngel). Anyhow, I'd like to see JGTC McLarens in addition with the Le Mans and the Fina McLaren. Maybe just notable F1s would be fine. What do you think?
 
Its a customer car from Prodrive, not run by them. It has less power, smaller wings etc. Its still getting upto pace in the JGTC.

I think all the GT500 cars have more than 500BHP.

The official Japanese class names are apparently GT300+/GT500+, but the + has been dropped over the years.
 
680 can't get in to the GT500, the class is restricted to cars under 500Bhp.

The GT500 cars are fitted with restrictors, but in actuall fact produce far more than 500BHP. Possibly 550-570BHP?

This is why the atmo NSX was blown away on the straights by the turbo Nissans, Toyotas etc.
 
....but in the reglements the GT-500 cars may not have more horsepower than 500(look at the WOODONE TOM´S SUPRA JGTC ´03 I GT4PROLOGUE!!!)
and til 2003 there was NO car ( except the PENNZOIL NISMO GTR´99--->GT2;GT3 AND GTC)that had 500ps/hp!!! so the supra from ´03 with its new V10 engine was the first of the "NEW" JGTC RACECARS which had 500 horsepower!

They are 'official' figures. The WRC cars 'only' have 300BHP max officially but in actual fact have more like 350BHP.

NEVER believe manufactuers official claims.
 
They arn't manufacturers claims, the cars are all tested by the race organisers and if they go over the limits they arn't allowed in, thats why they have restrictors, to keep them under the limits. If you made a WRC car but it had 350Bhp, you wouldn't be allowed to race, same goes if you made a GT500 car with 550Bhp. You'd need a restrictor and with the restrictor the ceases to have 550Bhp and it only has 500Bhp.

The limits are theorectical, not set in stone.

I do not know about the JGTC, but the WRC cars are certainly not tested by the organisors. Restrictors are applied, and it is upto the manufactuers to get as much power as they can.

How would you explain the turbo Supras and Skylines galloping away from the atmo NSXs on the straights in the JGTC.

Why so sure?

At Le Mans The Pescarolo Peugeots had 550BHP in 2003, but the Pescarolo Judd in 2004 had 600BHP simply because the Judd was better developed with the given restrictors.

In GT4P the Impreza WRC has either 299 or 300BHP. In reality it has around 350BHP. Even customer cars have 330BHP+.
 
The LeMans cars have different rules and limits, the JGTC GT500 cars are governed and they MUST be equal to or under 500Bhp or they are not allowed to enter. Thats why I'm so sure
 
.....but THE SUPRAS AND 350 ZS perhaps "gallop the atmo NSX away" just because they have a BETTER AERODYNAMIC? YES PERHAPS though the NSX is a very well designed car but all cars in the GT500 class have max 500 ps!!!...so why some cars are so much faster at the straits??....yes it must be AERODYNAMIC......
 
When you have restrictor regs, whether at Le Mans, WRC, JGTC, there is still scope to develop more power.

I have JGTC DVDs and drivers of the NSX's were saying how they could not keep up with the turbo Toyota and Nissans.

GT500's 500BHP limit is not set in stone, it is a guide.
 
It's the same for the japanese road-car ruling of a maximum of 276hp - all the cars like Imprezas, sklyines, evos, NSX's, etc. on all GT games have said 276hp but when you buy them and check the statistics they're really 290 and even up to 325.

If this happens with road cars why not with race cars?

I mean I can go find the precise chemical composition requirements for fuel in Formula 1, surely there's something stating something as basic as power limits for the JGTC - I looked, but I can't read Japanese, which is a stumbling point.

b/c with race cars the governing body checks them to ensure they meet regulations before and after each race. So for example if you exceeded the max hp requirement, when they dyno the car after the race... disqualified.
 
Power limits are not set in stone in the JGTC etc. An extra 50BHP is not a big deal when you have 500BHP+.

Restrictors, engine capacity limits etc.are just loose guides.

Can you find genuine power outputs for the F1 cars. I don't think so!
 
F1 doesn't have a hp limit that i'm aware of, but they do analyze fuel composition and a slew of other things on the cars... RS and JPM already got DQ'd for illegal brake ducts this year in Canada...
 
There is no Bhp limit in F1, the current Ferrari has around 900Bhp and the BMW is supposed to be more powerful than that. But as Phantasm said, you can fine all the details on the rqequirements for F1 is you look, you can for JGTC but I have the same problem of not being able to read Japanese.
